TWC determination letter disappeared, claim changed from approved to pending, plus random overpayment from 2022?
I'm in a weird situation with TWC and need some advice. Last week I got approved for benefits and received my determination letter. I was so relieved! But today when I logged in to check my payment status, my claim suddenly shows as 'pending' instead of 'approved.' Even stranger, the determination letter that was in my documents section is completely GONE. What the heck? It gets weirder. When I called the Tele-Serv number to file my payment request, the automated system told me I supposedly owe money from May and June 2022. That's impossible because I wasn't even on unemployment then! I was working full-time at my previous job until December 2024. Has anyone dealt with their approval status randomly changing or documents disappearing? And how do I fight this random overpayment claim from a period when I wasn't even receiving benefits? I'm freaking out because I was counting on this money for rent next month.

This happened to me earlier this year. The TWC system glitches sometimes and documents temporarily disappear. First, take screenshots of everything you can see now in case you need proof later. Then check again tomorrow - sometimes they reappear after the system updates overnight. As for the status changing from approved to pending, that usually means they're reviewing something additional on your claim. Did you get any correspondence in the mail or in your inbox about needing additional information? For the overpayment issue, that sounds like they might have confused your record with someone else's. You'll need to call and speak with an actual agent (not Tele-Serv) to get that straightened out.

•Thanks for the advice on screenshots - I'll do that right now. I haven't received any new correspondence asking for more info, which is part of why I'm so confused. The approval just changed to pending without explanation. I've been trying to call TWC for the past 3 hours and keep getting busy signals or disconnected. Is there a better time of day to call?

•That's a relief to hear! Did your status also flip from approved to pending, or was it just the document that disappeared?

The overpayment claim from a period when you weren't collecting benefits is a red flag. This is likely a system error, but you need to address it immediately before it affects your current claim. Errors like this can sometimes trigger automatic holds on current benefits while the system tries to recoup perceived overpayments. You'll need to request an appeal of the overpayment determination within 14 calendar days of the notice date. Even though you know it's an error, following the formal appeal process is important to protect your rights. Document everything - your work history from 2022, any payment records you have, and the fact that you weren't receiving benefits during those months. If you have old tax returns or pay stubs from that period, gather those as evidence.

•I never even received an official overpayment notice though - it was just mentioned in the automated Tele-Serv system. Should I still file an appeal? And how do I appeal something I don't have documentation for?

TWC system is a JOKE!!! This happens ALL THE TIME to people. I had my account randomly show I owed $4700 from 2023 when I wasnt even on unemployment then! Took me 6 WEEKS to get it fixed because nobody would answer the damn phone. The whole system is designed to make people give up. DO NOT TRUST the online portal - half the time it shows wrong info. And those determination letters come and go like ghosts in the system. Print EVERYTHING.

•6 weeks?? I can't wait that long - I have bills due next week. Did you ever find a way to actually get through to a person?

I've been helping my brother with his TWC claim and learned a trick to reach an actual person. Try using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's a service that helps you skip the TWC phone queue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh My brother had a similar issue with an incorrect overpayment notice, and getting to speak to an actual TWC agent was the only way to resolve it. The agent was able to see it was a system error and fixed it while he was on the phone.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll check out that video. At this point I'd try anything to get through to a real person.

•Yeah, it worked for my brother. The service basically keeps dialing for you until it gets through, then connects you. Saved him from having to redial for hours.

my cousin works at twc and says they had a system update recently that caused a bunch of problems. lots of documents disappeared and some claims got flagged wrong. they're fixing it but its taking time because of how many accounts got messed up. hang in there!

•That explains a lot! Did your cousin mention how long it might take for things to get fixed?

When my determination letter disappeared last month, I called my state representative's office and explained the situation. Their constituent services team contacted TWC directly and got it resolved within 2 days. They have special channels to TWC that regular claimants don't. Might be worth trying if you can't get through on the phone.

•I hadn't thought of contacting my state rep. That's a great idea if I can't get this resolved soon. Thanks!

To address your overpayment concern specifically: 1. Request a detailed statement of the alleged overpayment. You're entitled to know exactly what they think you were paid and when. 2. Gather your 2022 employment records - pay stubs, W-2, or tax returns - showing you were employed during May-June 2022. 3. Submit a written statement through your TWC correspondence portal explaining the error, with your evidence attached. 4. When you finally reach a representative, ask them to check if your SSN was possibly confused with someone else's claim. This happens more than they like to admit. In the meantime, continue filing your payment requests on schedule. Even with these issues, you need to maintain your claim.

•Thank you for laying this out so clearly. I'll start gathering my 2022 tax documents tonight. Is there a specific form I should use for the written statement, or just write it as a regular correspondence?

•You can use the general correspondence option in your online account. Just make sure to include your claim ID number, the specific dates in question (May-June 2022), and clearly state that you were fully employed during that period and not receiving any unemployment benefits.

•Yes! Finally got through to someone using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. The agent confirmed it was a system error from their recent update. My determination letter is back in my documents and the claim is showing approved again. The overpayment was completely erroneous - they had somehow merged part of another person's claim with mine. All fixed now, but it took about a week to get it all sorted out.
