TWC sent duplicate approval determination letter - should I be worried?
I'm so confused and a little worried. I've been receiving unemployment benefits since January 2025, and everything was going smoothly. My claim was approved after my initial filing, and I've been doing my payment requests on time. But yesterday, I received ANOTHER determination letter in my correspondence inbox about my job separation reason. It's still an approval, exactly like the first one from January. My former employer didn't appeal anything (we parted on decent terms - company downsizing). Is this a system glitch? Should I be concerned that my claim is being re-examined for some reason? Has anyone else had TWC randomly send duplicate determinations months into their claim? I'm worried this might somehow affect my benefits.

This happens more often than you'd think! TWC sometimes reviews claims as part of their regular quality control process, even months after initial approval. If both determinations say 'approved,' you're fine. They occasionally re-examine claims if something triggered their system - maybe your former employer submitted quarterly wage reports that made the system flag your claim for review. As long as the determination says you're still eligible, your benefits will continue normally. No action needed on your part.

•That's a relief! So I shouldn't call them about it? The determination has the same information as the original one, word for word, which seemed strange.

•Thanks for sharing! Did you call them about it or just leave it alone?

DO NOT IGNORE THIS!!! I had something similar happen last year and ignored it thinking it was a duplicate. Turns out they were reviewing my claim because someone reported I was working (I wasn't). My payments stopped two weeks later and it took MONTHS to fix!!! CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY to make sure there's not an issue!!!

•this is different tho. OP said both letters are approvals so nothing to worry about. your situation sounds like they sent you a new determination that was negative.

•My first letter was an approval too! The second one LOOKED identical but had a different investigation number in the corner. Two weeks later I got hit with a fraud investigation. All I'm saying is CALL TO BE SAFE.

This is actually fairly common and usually not a cause for concern. When TWC sends a duplicate determination letter that shows the exact same approval decision, it's typically due to one of these reasons: 1. System update or maintenance that triggered automated notices 2. An employer submitted quarterly wage reports that differed from what was on file 3. Random quality control review (TWC reviews a percentage of claims regularly) 4. Another department reviewed your file for routine verification Since both letters show approval and your employer didn't contest anything, your benefits should continue without interruption. If you want peace of mind, you can call TWC to confirm there are no pending issues on your claim, but based on what you've described, this appears to be routine.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! This makes me feel better. I've been trying to call just to make sure, but can't get through (typical). Is there any way to check if there are pending issues in my online account?

I spent days trying to reach TWC about a similar issue last month - busy signals and disconnects constantly. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a TWC rep in about 20 minutes. They confirmed mine was just a system glitch from their database maintenance. The service basically holds your place in line and calls you when they connect with TWC. Saved me so much frustration! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh

•I've never heard of this service. Did they actually get you through to TWC? I've been calling for 2 days with no luck.

•Yes! They connected me directly to TWC. When they get through, they call you and patch you through to the TWC agent. Saved me from having to redial for hours.

My sister works for TWC (not speaking officially just sharing what she told me). These duplicate letters usually happen when they do database maintenance or if someone internally reviewed your claim for quality assurance. As long as both say you're approved, you're good. They have to send a new determination letter anytime they touch your claim file even if nothing changes. It's stupid but that's how their system works.

•That's exactly what I needed to hear! Thanks for the inside perspective. Makes sense that their system would automatically generate notices like that.

anyone know if we need to do work searches during holiday week? my payment request falls on july 4th

•That's a separate issue - but yes, you still need to do your work searches even during holiday weeks. TWC requires 3 work search activities every week, holidays don't change that requirement.

I checked the TWC website, and there's a way to see if you have any pending issues on your claim. Log into your account, go to the 'Claim and Payment Status' section, then look for 'Claim Status' or 'Issues and Determinations.' If everything shows 'Resolved' or there are no pending issues listed, you should be fine. The recent determination letter should also be visible in your correspondence inbox with the status showing 'Approved.'

•I just checked and you're right - everything shows resolved and there are no pending issues! Both determination letters are in my inbox with 'Eligible' status. What a relief. Thanks everyone for your help!
