TWC claim stuck 'under investigation' despite approval letter - how long until deposit?

I'm getting really confused with my TWC unemployment claim. I applied on April 14th and received a determination letter on April 16th saying I qualify for benefits. Great, right? But it's also saying my case is still 'under investigation.' I've already filed two payment requests - one on April 30th and another one today - but haven't received any money. My online account just shows everything as pending. Has anyone else had their case stuck 'under investigation' even after getting approved? How long does this typically take to resolve before I actually get paid? Also requested the TWC debit card when I first applied three weeks ago but haven't received anything in the mail yet. Should I be worried at this point?

it happpens alot, TWC is backed up. my claim was under review for almost 6 weeks even tho i got that approval letter. just keep doing your payment requests and eventually the money will show up all at once. The card takes forever too, mine took like 3 weeks to come in the mail.

6 WEEKS?! That's insane! Did they at least backpay you for all those weeks? I've got bills due next week and was counting on this money...

There's an important distinction here. Your determination letter that says you qualify means you're monetarily eligible (meaning you earned enough wages in your base period), but the 'under investigation' status typically means there's an issue with your separation from employment that TWC needs to resolve. Common reasons include: your employer contesting the claim, questions about why you left your job, or verification of your identity or work status. The approval letter doesn't mean you're fully approved yet. In 2025, TWC is taking about 3-4 weeks to resolve these investigations, sometimes longer if they need additional information. Keep filing your payment requests on time, and when the investigation is complete, you'll receive all eligible payments in a lump sum if approved. For the debit card, they typically take 7-10 business days to arrive. If it's been more than three weeks, you should contact U.S. Bank REI at 1-800-657-6343 to check on its status.

Thank you for explaining! No one told me there was a difference between being monetarily eligible and fully approved. My employer did mention they were going to fight my claim because they said I quit, but I was actually laid off due to budget cuts. Could that be why it's under investigation?

Same boat here!! Been waiting 5 weeks with that stupid 'investigation' status. Called 47 times and always busy signal. This system is BROKEN!!!! 😡😡😡

That's so frustrating! Have you tried contacting your state representative? I heard that sometimes helps speed things up.

After dealing with the same issue (my claim was stuck in investigation for 5 weeks), I finally got through to a TWC agent who explained and resolved everything in 10 minutes. I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me past the busy signals and connected me with TWC. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh The agent told me my investigation was due to my employer contesting the reason for separation, but since I had documentation showing I was laid off, they resolved it on the spot. All my pending payments were released two days later. Might be worth trying if you've been unable to get through on the phones.

is that service legit? seems kinda sketchy to use a third party when dealing with unemployment stuff. did they ask for your ssn or anything?

Did you complete all your work search activities? I made the mistake of not reporting my 3 required job search activities for my first payment request and my claim got flagged for investigation. Another thing - if you requested direct deposit instead of the TWC card, check that your banking info was entered correctly. My friend had a typo in her account number and that created a whole mess.

Yes, I've been doing my work search activities - applying to at least 3 jobs per week and logging them. I did request direct deposit initially, but then switched to the card option because I thought it might be faster. Maybe that caused some confusion in their system?

The "under investigation" status almost always means one of three things: 1. Your employer is contesting the claim (most common) 2. There's an identity verification issue with ID.me that hasn't been resolved 3. There's a question about your availability for work or work search activities Since you mentioned your employer might be contesting it, TWC will need to conduct a fact-finding interview. They're scheduling these about 3-4 weeks out currently. Make sure your phone number is up to date in your TWC account because they'll call you for this interview. If you miss it, this will significantly delay your claim. For the TWC debit card, if you initially selected direct deposit and then switched to the card, you need to call U.S. Bank directly at 1-800-657-6343 to request a new card. The change in your TWC account doesn't automatically trigger a card issuance. Keep filing your payment requests every two weeks regardless of the investigation status so you don't miss out on any eligible weeks.

Thank you for this detailed response! I haven't received any notification about a fact-finding interview yet. Should I call TWC to schedule one or just wait for them to contact me? And I'll definitely call U.S. Bank about the card situation.

my claim was under investigation for 3 weeks then suddenly got approved and all the money showed up on my card. never got a call or anything. sometimes they just resolve it without even talking to you!

That's encouraging! I hope that happens in my case too. Did your online account status change before the money arrived, or did it just suddenly show up?

The TWC is a JOKE!!! I had to wait 9 WEEKS with a so-called "simple" investigation. Called hundreds of times. My kids were hungry. Car almost repossessed. TWC doesn't care about regular people!!

sorry to hear that, thats terrible. did u ever find out what the investigation was about? my friend had a similar experience and it turned out her ex-employer lied about her quitting

Quick update based on your responses: Since your employer is contesting the claim (saying you quit when you were laid off), that's definitely why it's under investigation. Make sure you have any documentation showing you were laid off - termination letter, emails, texts, etc. Have these ready for when TWC contacts you for the fact-finding interview. The best approach is to wait for TWC to contact you about the interview, but if it's been more than 4 weeks since filing and you haven't heard anything, then trying to reach them directly makes sense. Just keep documenting all your work search activities and filing your payment requests every two weeks. If your claim is approved, you'll receive all eligible payments at once. For anyone dealing with this situation, the determining factor will be whether you can prove you were laid off rather than quitting voluntarily. This makes a huge difference in TWC's decision-making process.

I have emails from my manager discussing the budget cuts and the layoff, plus my termination letter specifying it was a reduction in force. Hope that's enough evidence. Will gather everything and be ready when they call. Thanks again for all the help everyone!

I'm dealing with a very similar situation right now! Filed my claim 4 weeks ago, got the monetary determination saying I qualify, but my status has been stuck on "under investigation" this whole time. Like you, I've been filing my payment requests every two weeks but nothing has been deposited yet. My former employer is also disputing my claim - they're saying I abandoned my job when I actually gave proper notice and left due to unsafe working conditions. It's so frustrating because I have text messages and emails proving my side of the story, but TWC hasn't contacted me for any kind of interview yet. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you have bills piling up. I've been checking my account obsessively hoping the status will change. Based on what others are saying here, it sounds like we just have to be patient and wait for TWC to work through their backlog. At least we're not alone in this mess!

@Sofia Martinez I m'so glad I m'not the only one going through this! It s'reassuring to know someone else has the same timeline and situation. The waiting really is the worst part - I keep refreshing my account multiple times a day hoping something will change. At least you have those text messages and emails as proof! That should definitely help your case when they finally get around to interviewing you. It sounds like we just need to hang in there and trust the process, even though it s'incredibly stressful when bills are due. Fingers crossed both of our investigations get resolved soon!

I'm going through almost the exact same thing! Filed my claim about 3 weeks ago, got the monetary determination letter saying I qualify, but it's been stuck "under investigation" ever since. Haven't received a single payment despite filing my payment requests on time. My former employer is also contesting it - they're claiming I was fired for cause when I was actually let go due to company restructuring. The stress of waiting is unreal, especially when you're counting on that money to pay rent and groceries. I've been calling TWC non-stop but can never get through. It's helpful to see from everyone's responses that this seems to be pretty common right now, though that doesn't make it any less frustrating. @Savannah Vin - definitely keep all that documentation about the layoff ready! Sounds like you have solid proof. Hopefully both our investigations get resolved soon and we get that backpay. This whole system really needs to be fixed though - people shouldn't have to wait months for benefits they're entitled to.

@Emma Wilson It s'crazy how many of us are dealing with the exact same situation right now! Company restructuring vs fired for cause - that s'such an important distinction and your employer knows it. That s'probably why they re'trying to fight it. The fact that so many people are experiencing these long investigation delays really shows there s'a systemic problem with TWC right now. I m'trying to stay positive that once they finally get to our cases, having proper documentation will make the decision straightforward. Hang in there - at least we know we re'not alone in this mess!

I'm in week 7 of the same nightmare! Filed in mid-March, got my monetary determination letter saying I qualify, but my claim has been "under investigation" this entire time. My former employer is claiming I was terminated for poor performance when I was actually laid off due to downsizing - they even had me train my replacement before letting me go! The most frustrating part is that I've called TWC literally hundreds of times and either get a busy signal or sit on hold for hours before getting disconnected. I've filed all my payment requests religiously every two weeks but my account still shows $0 in payments. My savings are completely drained at this point and I'm behind on everything. What's really maddening is that TWC sent me that determination letter back in March saying I'm eligible, but then nothing happens! How can they say you qualify but then make you wait 2+ months for an actual decision? The system is completely broken. I have emails, my termination letter, and even a witness who saw the whole downsizing process, but apparently none of that matters until they get around to actually looking at my case. For anyone still waiting - definitely keep filing those payment requests no matter what. I've heard if you miss even one week, you lose that money forever even if you eventually get approved. This whole process is designed to wear people down until they give up.

@Connor Gallagher 7 weeks is absolutely ridiculous! The fact that you even had to train your replacement makes it crystal clear this was a layoff, not a performance issue. Your employer is obviously trying to avoid paying higher unemployment insurance rates by fighting legitimate claims. I can t'believe how broken this system is - getting a determination letter that says you qualify should mean something! It s'like they re'dangling that approval in front of us while making us jump through endless hoops. The phone situation is the worst part - how are we supposed to resolve anything if we can literally never speak to a human being? Thanks for the reminder about filing payment requests every two weeks no matter what. I ve'been doing it but sometimes wonder if it s'pointless when nothing ever changes. Really hoping all of us stuck in this investigation limbo get our cases resolved soon. Hang in there!

I'm in almost exactly the same situation and it's driving me crazy! Filed my claim about 5 weeks ago, got the monetary determination saying I qualify, but it's been stuck "under investigation" ever since. My employer is also fighting it - claiming I quit when I was actually laid off due to company-wide budget cuts. What really gets me is how they can send you that determination letter saying you're eligible but then leave you hanging for weeks or months without any real updates. I've been doing my payment requests every two weeks like clockwork but my account balance is still $0. The financial stress is unreal when you're counting on this money to survive. I've tried calling TWC dozens of times but it's always busy or I get disconnected after waiting on hold forever. From reading everyone's responses, it sounds like this is unfortunately pretty normal right now - which is both reassuring and infuriating at the same time. @Savannah Vin - those emails about budget cuts and your termination letter should definitely work in your favor! At least you have solid documentation. I'm in a similar boat with my layoff paperwork. Hopefully both our cases get resolved soon and we get that backpay. This whole system really needs an overhaul though - people shouldn't have to wait months for benefits they're legally entitled to!
