TWC only paid one month of benefits then stopped - what's going on?
I'm really confused about my unemployment benefits. I filed my initial claim in January and got approved pretty quickly. They paid me for about 4 weeks (one month) but then the payments just stopped coming. My payment request status just says 'pending' now. I'm still requesting payment every two weeks like I'm supposed to and doing all my work searches. My bills are piling up and I don't understand why they're holding my benefits. Has anyone dealt with this? Did I do something wrong? I've tried calling TWC like 50 times but can't get through to anyone.

There are several reasons why your payments might have stopped. The most common ones are: 1. You reached your benefit year end (BYE) date 2. You reported earnings that were too high on your payment request 3. There's an issue with your work search activities 4. Your identity verification through ID.me expired or had an issue 5. TWC has an unresolved question about your eligibility Check your correspondence inbox on the TWC portal - there should be a determination letter explaining the hold. You need to address whatever issue they've identified.

•Thank you for this! I checked my correspondence and found a letter I missed about needing to verify my identity through ID.me again. I thought I already did this when I first applied. So frustrating!

The system is DESIGNED to trip people up! They're hoping you'll just give up instead of fighting for what you're entitled to. I had THREE different issues with my claim last year - first it was ID.me problems, then they claimed I didn't do enough work searches (I DID!!), then they questioned my reason for separation from my job AFTER initially approving me! Calling TWC is practically IMPOSSIBLE unless you're willing to spend your entire day hitting redial. The whole system is broken and they don't care about people struggling to pay bills!!

•I agree the system is frustrating but I don't think it's intentionally designed to trip people up. It's just overwhelmed and understaffed.

I had a similar issue back in February. Turned out they flagged my account for a quarterly wage review (where they check if you've had any unreported earnings). I couldn't get through on the phones for weeks until I tried Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to TWC agents by essentially waiting on hold for you. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh that shows how it works. Saved me hours of frustration, and the TWC agent was able to clear the hold on my account in a 10-minute call. Worth checking out if you're desperate to speak with someone.

•Thank you! I'm going to check this out right now. I never knew something like this existed. I'm definitely desperate to talk to someone at this point.

•Yeah I found a letter about ID.me verification that I somehow missed. I thought I already did that but I guess it expired or something? So confusing.

I want to add that if the issue is your ID.me verification (which is quite common), make sure you're using the same email address for both your ID.me account and your TWC account. I work as an employment counselor, and I see many clients who run into problems because their email addresses don't match between the two systems. Also, if you've moved since you first applied, or changed your phone number, make sure ALL your contact information is updated in both systems. If you're unable to complete the ID.me verification online, you'll need to speak with a TWC representative to request an alternative identity verification method. Keep requesting your payments every two weeks even while this issue is being resolved - this keeps your claim active and ensures you'll receive back payments once the verification is complete.

•Thank you for this detailed advice! My email addresses do match, but I did move recently and only updated my address in the TWC system, not ID.me. I'll fix that right away. And I'll definitely keep doing my payment requests.

I'm having the same problem right now! Benefits just stopped after a month. So stressful.

•Make sure to check your correspondence tab for any determination letters explaining the hold. If there's an issue with your ID verification, work search activities, or if TWC has questions about your eligibility, they'll send you a letter.

•No, I haven't found any work yet, not even part-time. Still searching and doing all my required work search activities every week.

Good news - if you've found the ID.me verification letter and complete the verification process correctly, your benefits should resume within 5-7 business days. The ID.me verification is valid for about 12 months, which is why you're having to do it again if you first applied in January of last year. One important tip: when completing the ID.me verification, use a desktop computer rather than a mobile device if possible. The facial recognition software works much more reliably on desktop browsers. Also, make sure you have good lighting when taking your photo for the verification. Once you've completed the verification, I recommend calling TWC to confirm they've received the updated verification. This can help expedite the process rather than waiting for their automated systems to process it.

•I actually managed to get through to TWC using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. The agent confirmed my ID.me verification went through and released my payments! They said I should receive the back payments for the weeks I missed within 2-3 business days. Such a relief!

Everybody talking about ID.me but NOBODY mentioning that their whole verification system is CONSTANTLY glitching! I had to try TWELVE TIMES to get my verification to go through last time. Their facial recognition software kept rejecting my perfectly good photo and then they locked me out of my account! Had to call their tech support which is ANOTHER nightmare! The whole unemployment system is digital garbage held together with duct tape. Our tax dollars at work, folks!

•While ID.me can definitely be frustrating, it has cut down on the massive unemployment fraud that was happening during COVID. That said, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired when you run into technical issues.

I was in your exact situation back in November. The payments just stopped with no explanation. Turns out they were doing a quarterly review of my claim (they do this routinely) and something flagged their system. I don't even know what it was, but once I finally got someone on the phone they fixed it right away. I wasted about 3 weeks trying to call them myself before I finally got through. So annoying but hang in there!

•It's so stressful when the money just stops coming with no clear explanation! I'm glad you got it sorted out. I managed to get through using Claimyr and got my issue resolved too.
