TWC claim filed 7/19 still pending - told to wait another week?
I'm at my wit's end with this unemployment process. I filed my initial claim on July 19th and it's now been almost 5 weeks with no approval or payment. I finally got through to TWC yesterday after calling non-stop for 3 days and the agent just casually told me 'you have about a week left for the claim to approve.' No explanation why it's taking so long! I've been requesting payments every two weeks as required and my work search activities are all documented. Is this normal? I'm seriously stressing about bills. Has anyone else experienced this kind of timeline for approval? The agent didn't seem concerned at all but I'm panicking.

Yeah thats pretty normal nowadays. Mine took 6 weeks back in April. Just keep doing ur payment requests and work search stuff and it'll eventually go through.

•6 weeks?! That's insane. Did you get backpay for all those weeks when it finally approved?

Unfortunately, this timeline isn't unusual for TWC right now. When they say "about a week," that could mean 7-10 business days. They're processing a high volume of claims and many have to go through additional verification steps. The good news is that you WILL receive back payments for all weeks you properly requested payment once approved, as long as you've been doing your work search activities. A few things to check: 1. Make sure your ID.me verification is complete 2. Check your TWC correspondence inbox for any requests for information you might have missed 3. Continue requesting payments on your assigned days 4. Keep documenting your 3 work search activities per week Hang in there - being told "about a week" actually sounds promising. It means your claim is in process and not stuck with a problem.

•Thank you for the detailed response! My ID.me verification is complete and I've been checking my correspondence inbox obsessively - nothing there asking for additional info. It's the uncertainty that's killing me. Bills are piling up while I wait.

I WENT THROUGH THE EXACT SAME THING LAST MONTH!! They told me "one more week" for THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT!! Every agent said something different and nobody could tell me WHY it was taking so long. The system is completely broken. I ended up getting eviction notices before my claim finally went through. And guess what? When it finally approved, there was ZERO explanation for the delay. Total bureaucratic nightmare.

•This isn't entirely accurate. There are specific reasons claims get held up - sometimes it's employer response delays, sometimes it's identity verification issues, sometimes it's the need for additional fact-finding. The system isn't "broken" - it's just overwhelmed and has specific protocols it must follow. I understand your frustration, but spreading this kind of negative perspective isn't helpful to someone already anxious about their situation.

•Oh give me a break! If the system worked properly, they would TELL people WHY their claim is delayed instead of making them guess. That IS broken!! And they wouldn't give false timeframes over and over.

When I was waiting for my claim to process back in March, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it was a total game-changer. I was in the same boat - weeks of waiting with no explanation. Using their service, I got through to a TWC agent in about 15 minutes instead of spending days redialing. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim (turned out my former employer contested it). You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh Might be worth it to get a clear answer instead of the vague "wait another week" response you got.

•It worked for me. Not saying it solves every problem, but at least I could talk to an actual person without spending days calling.

•46 days?!?! I can't wait that long! Did you have to do anything special to make it go through?

One important thing to understand is that the TWC agent you spoke with can see the current status of your claim in their system, which is why they were able to give you that timeframe. When they say "about a week," it typically means your claim has passed the major verification hurdles and is in the final review queue. If your claim required any additional verification or had any separation issues (like if your employer contested it or if there were questions about why you're no longer employed), those would typically add several weeks to the processing time. The fact that you've been able to file payment requests is also a good sign. Just make sure you continue to request payment on your assigned days, even while waiting for the initial approval. All eligible weeks will be paid retroactively when your claim is approved.

•That makes me feel a bit better. I'm hoping "about a week" actually means about a week. My former employer laid me off due to budget cuts, so there shouldn't be any issues there. Fingers crossed.

Did anyone else notice how TWC's estimates are ALWAYS wrong? When I filed last year they told me 2-3 weeks. Took 8 weeks. Then they told me my appeal would take 4 weeks. Took 11 weeks. I think they just make up these timeframes to get us off the phone lol.

•I actually had the opposite experience. They told me 4-6 weeks and mine was approved in 3. I think it just depends on your specific situation and how complicated your case is. Some claims are straightforward, others need more investigation.

Based on what you've described, your claim sounds like it's in the normal processing phase. The 5-6 week timeline is unfortunately standard right now, especially for first-time claims. The agent's statement that you have "about a week left" is actually good news - it means your claim is progressing through the system without major issues. A few technical points that might help you understand the process: 1. First-time claims go through multiple verification processes including wage verification with employers, identity verification, and eligibility determination. 2. When you requested payments, did you receive confirmation numbers? If yes, that's a very good sign. Those weeks are being recorded and will be processed for payment once your base claim is approved. 3. TWC's internal processing has several stages, and it sounds like you're in the final stage if they're giving you a one-week timeframe. If next week passes and you still don't see approval, I'd recommend calling again specifically to ask if there are any issues or holds on your claim that you need to address.

•Yes, I did receive confirmation numbers for my payment requests! That's reassuring to hear. I'll give it until the end of next week and then call again if nothing changes. Really appreciate the detailed explanation.

I just checked my old emails and found that my claim from this February took exactly 33 days from filing to approval. The agent I spoke with when I called using Claimyr explained that first-time claims just take longer because they have to verify everything from scratch. After the initial approval, everything went smoothly with my biweekly payment requests. Hang in there!

•Thanks for checking! 33 days would put me at about next week, so maybe the agent's timeline is accurate after all. I'm trying to be patient but it's hard when the bills are due.
