TWC claim stuck in 'review' status for 4 weeks - normal waiting time?

I filed for unemployment benefits after being laid off from my warehouse job back in early January. Today marks exactly 4 weeks since I submitted my application, and when I log into my TWC account, it still just says 'TWC is reviewing your claim to determine if we can pay you benefits.' Is this normal? I've been requesting payments every two weeks like they told me to, but no money has been deposited yet. I haven't received any emails or letters asking for additional information. My savings are getting really low, and I'm starting to get nervous. How long does it typically take for them to approve a claim and start paying benefits? Has anyone else experienced a similar wait time?

ya this is pretty normal tbh... my claim took almost 6 weeks to get approved last year. as long as u keep requesting payments on your assigned days youll get backpay for all those weeks once they approve u

Thanks for replying. 6 weeks sounds like forever when bills are due! Did you have to do anything to make it go faster or did it just suddenly get approved?

The standard processing time is supposed to be 21 days, but TWC has been consistently running behind since 2025 began. A few things to consider: 1. Make sure you're completing your work search activities (minimum 3 per week) and documenting them carefully 2. Double-check that your ID.me verification is complete if they required it 3. Keep requesting payments on your designated days even while waiting If your employer is disputing your claim or if there were any issues with your employment separation, that can extend the review process significantly. Did you receive a determination letter yet?

No determination letter yet, and my separation was pretty straightforward - company-wide layoff with about 30 people let go. I've definitely been doing my work searches and documenting everything. I'll keep requesting payments as scheduled. Just feels like I'm in limbo!

OMG I WENT THROUGH THIS EXACT SAME THING!!! My claim was stuck in review for FIVE WHOLE WEEKS and I was going CRAZY checking my account every single day. Then suddenly one day it just switched to approved!! No explanation for the delay or anything. The most frustrating part was not knowing if I was doing something wrong or if they needed more info from me. Have you tried calling them? That's what I did but couldn't even get through 😩

I've tried calling at least a dozen times, but I either get a busy signal or the automated system tells me call volumes are too high. It's so frustrating not knowing if something's wrong or if this is just how long it takes. Glad yours eventually went through though - gives me some hope!

If it's been a full 4 weeks with no determination letter, I recommend trying to speak with a TWC representative. Your situation sounds like a standard claim that should have been processed by now, especially for a company-wide layoff. The backpay will come once approved, but you need clarity on whether there's an issue causing the delay. I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to TWC when my claim was stuck. Their system holds your place in line so you don't have to keep redialing. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh that shows how it works. Once I actually got through to a person, they identified an employer response issue that was holding things up.

Does this Claimyr thing actually work? I've been trying to reach TWC for 2 weeks about my pending claim too and it's impossible

•

Yes, it worked for me. Instead of redialing constantly for days, I got through to a TWC agent in about 45 minutes. Worth it to finally get my claim unstuck.

My brother waited almost 7 weeks and then found out his former employer had contested the claim even though he was laid off too! TWC never notified him about it. He only found out when he finally got through to someone on the phone. They were able to fix it that same day and he had his benefits the following week. So sometimes there are problems they don't tell you about that are causing the delay.

Luca Ferrari

•

That's concerning... I had a good relationship with my employer so I don't think they'd contest it, especially since it was a mass layoff. But now I'm worried there might be some issue I don't know about. I really need to talk to someone at TWC.

Everybody thinks TWC process is like some kind of automatic computer system that just pays you but its NOT. I work in HR and I can tell you what happens is TWC sends forms to your former employer who has 14 DAYS to respond about why you left. So thats already 2 weeks right there. If employer doesn't respond or disputes it or if ANYTHING at all looks unusual about your case, it gets flagged for manual review by an actual person. That's where the big delays come in. They are understaffed but legally they must make determination within 6 weeks even though their website still says 21 days. Just keep requesting your payments and make sure your work search log is perfect.

Thanks for explaining the behind-the-scenes process. That makes sense about the employer response period. I'm just hoping they responded properly and quickly. I'll keep up with my work searches and payment requests.

One other thing to check - log into your TWC account and look for the Correspondence/Inbox section. Sometimes they send you requests for additional information there but don't email you about it. If there's anything there that you haven't responded to, that could be what's holding things up.

I just checked again and my correspondence inbox is empty. There's nothing showing under 'Action Items' either. I think I'm going to try that Claimyr service you mentioned so I can actually talk to someone and find out what's happening.

wait are we supposed to be documenting the work searches?? i thought we just had to do them but didnt need to write them down unless they audit you? now im worried

0 coins

Yes, you absolutely need to be documenting all work search activities! TWC requires you to keep detailed records of at least 3 work search activities per week, including company name, contact information, application method, and position applied for. They can request these records at any time, and if you can't provide them, they can deny benefits or even request repayment of benefits already received.

UPDATE: I finally got through to TWC today! Used that Claimyr service and it worked - got connected to an agent in about 35 minutes. Turns out my former employer didn't respond to TWC's request for information within the timeframe, which caused the delay. The agent pushed my claim through for processing, and said I should see a determination letter within 2-3 business days. She confirmed all my payment requests were properly recorded and I'll receive backpay for all weeks once approved. Such a relief to finally know what was happening!

That's AWESOME!!! So glad you got it resolved! The waiting and uncertainty is the WORST part. Let us know when you actually get paid!

Great news! This is exactly why it's important to follow up when claims seem delayed. Employer non-response is a common reason for delays, but once you get someone at TWC to look at it, they can often move things along quickly.

Congratulations on getting through and getting answers! This is such a perfect example of why it's worth the effort to actually speak with someone when your claim gets stuck. Your situation shows that sometimes the delay isn't anything you did wrong - it's just administrative issues on the backend that need a human to resolve. Thanks for sharing the update and for mentioning the Claimyr service - sounds like it really works for getting past those impossible phone queues. Hope your determination letter comes through quickly and you get that backpay soon!

This is such a helpful thread! I'm dealing with a similar situation - my claim has been stuck for 3 weeks now and I was starting to panic. Reading through everyone's experiences really puts things in perspective. It sounds like 4-6 weeks is unfortunately pretty common right now, but at least there's usually a resolution eventually. I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service if I hit the 4 week mark like you did. Thanks for updating us with your success story - it gives hope to those of us still waiting!

This is such a valuable thread for anyone dealing with TWC delays! I'm going through something similar right now - my claim has been pending for 3 weeks and I was getting really anxious about it. Reading through everyone's experiences here really helps normalize what feels like an endless wait. It's reassuring to know that 4-6 weeks seems to be the unfortunate reality right now, even for straightforward layoff cases. I'm definitely bookmarking that Claimyr service in case I need it. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and especially to Luca for keeping us updated with the resolution. It really shows the importance of being persistent and actually getting someone on the phone when possible. Fingers crossed my claim moves along soon too!

I'm in a similar boat - filed 2 weeks ago and already feeling anxious about the wait! This thread has been incredibly helpful for setting expectations. It's frustrating that what's supposed to be a 21-day process is taking 4-6 weeks, but at least now I know it's not just me. I'm keeping detailed work search logs and requesting payments on schedule like everyone recommended. Really appreciate Luca sharing the whole journey from filing to resolution - it gives us newer filers a roadmap of what to expect. Hopefully TWC gets their staffing issues sorted out soon, but until then it's good to know there are resources like Claimyr if we need to escalate.

This whole thread is so reassuring! I'm at week 5 with my claim stuck in review and was starting to think something was seriously wrong. Seeing that Luca got through with Claimyr and that employer non-response was the issue makes me think I should probably try calling too instead of just waiting it out. The uncertainty is honestly worse than the wait itself - at least now I have some realistic expectations that 4-6 weeks seems normal right now. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and timelines, it really helps to know we're not alone in this frustrating process!

You're definitely not alone! Week 5 is right in that frustrating sweet spot where you know something should have happened by now but you're not sure if you should panic yet. Based on what everyone's shared here, it really seems like getting someone on the phone is the key to breaking through these delays. I'd definitely recommend trying Claimyr if you can - seems like there are often backend issues that only get resolved once a human actually looks at your file. The waiting game is brutal but at least you know your situation isn't unusual. Hope you get some movement on your claim soon!

This entire thread has been incredibly eye-opening! I just filed my claim last week after a layoff and was already getting impatient after 7 days of "under review" status. Reading everyone's experiences here really helps set realistic expectations - sounds like I need to mentally prepare for potentially 4-6 weeks rather than the 21 days advertised. I'm definitely going to start documenting my work searches more carefully based on the advice here, and it's good to know about resources like Claimyr if I need to escalate later. Really appreciate how supportive this community is and how people share their actual timelines and solutions. Luca, congrats on getting your claim resolved - gives the rest of us hope that persistence pays off!

Welcome to the waiting club! 😅 It's wild how different the reality is from what TWC advertises - I wish they'd just be upfront about the actual timeframes instead of giving people false hope with that 21-day estimate. Since you're just getting started, you're in a good position to be proactive from the beginning. Definitely keep those work search logs detailed and organized, and don't stress if you don't hear anything for the first month. From reading through this thread, it seems like the sweet spot for calling is around week 4-5 if you haven't gotten any updates by then. At least now you know what to expect and have a game plan! The community here has been super helpful for navigating this whole process.

This thread has been such a lifesaver! I'm currently at 3 weeks waiting and was starting to spiral thinking I did something wrong with my application. Reading through everyone's experiences really normalizes what feels like an impossibly long wait. It's both frustrating and comforting to know that 4-6 weeks seems to be the new normal despite TWC's 21-day promise. I've been obsessively checking my account daily and calling the phone line with no luck, so I'm definitely going to look into that Claimyr service if I hit the 4-week mark. The tip about checking the correspondence inbox is also super helpful - I never would have thought to look there for hidden action items. Luca, thanks so much for updating us with your resolution! It really gives hope that these delays usually do get sorted out eventually, even when it feels hopeless. The fact that it was just employer non-response and not something you did wrong is reassuring for those of us in similar situations.

You're so right about this thread being a lifesaver! I just joined this community after finding myself in the exact same situation - week 3 of waiting with that dreaded "under review" status. Like you, I was starting to think I messed something up in my application, but seeing everyone's similar experiences here is both reassuring and infuriating at the same time. It's crazy that TWC still advertises 21 days when clearly 4-6 weeks is the reality for most people right now. I've also been doing the obsessive daily account checking thing - it's like watching paint dry! The Claimyr service definitely seems worth trying based on multiple success stories in this thread. Really appreciate how this community shares actual solutions and not just complaints. Fingers crossed both our claims start moving soon!

This thread is exactly what I needed to find! I'm at week 2.5 of waiting and was already getting really stressed about the lack of movement on my claim. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been both reassuring and educational. It's honestly ridiculous that TWC still posts 21 days as their processing time when it's clearly taking 4-6 weeks for most people, but at least now I know what to realistically expect. The advice about keeping detailed work search logs and checking the correspondence inbox regularly is super valuable - I'll definitely make sure I'm staying on top of both. And the multiple success stories with Claimyr give me confidence that there are actual solutions when you hit that 4-5 week mark where you really need to talk to someone. Luca, huge congrats on finally getting your claim moving! Your whole journey from filing to resolution gives those of us still waiting a clear roadmap of what to expect and when to escalate. The fact that it was just an employer response issue and not anything you did wrong is really encouraging. Thanks for keeping us updated throughout the process - it makes this frustrating wait feel a lot less isolating!

This thread has been incredibly helpful for me too! I'm brand new to this community and just filed my claim last week. Like everyone else, I was expecting that 21-day timeline TWC advertises, but reading through all these experiences really shows that 4-6 weeks is the reality right now. It's frustrating but at least now I can set proper expectations instead of panicking when week 3 rolls around. The step-by-step advice throughout this thread is gold - from keeping detailed work search logs to knowing about that Claimyr service for when you need to actually reach someone. And seeing Javier mention the correspondence inbox reminded me to check mine more regularly since apparently they don't always email you about requests. Luca's success story really gives hope that even when it feels like your claim is stuck forever, there's usually a fixable reason behind the delay. The employer non-response issue seems pretty common based on what people are sharing here. Thanks everyone for being so open about your timelines and solutions - this community is way more helpful than TWC's actual customer service!

Just wanted to jump in as someone who went through this exact situation about 8 months ago. My claim was stuck in review for almost 5 weeks and I was absolutely losing my mind checking the portal every few hours. What finally broke it loose was getting through to an actual person at TWC - turned out there was a simple coding error in my employer's response that was flagging my case for manual review. The Claimyr service that Ethan mentioned is legit - I used it too and it saved me from the endless redial game. Cost like $20 but totally worth it to actually speak with someone who could see what was happening with my claim. Once I got through, the agent fixed the issue in about 10 minutes and I had my determination letter within 3 days. Luca, so glad you got yours sorted out! For anyone else still waiting, don't panic if you hit that 4-6 week mark - it's unfortunately become the new normal. Just make sure you keep doing your payment requests and work searches exactly as scheduled. The backpay will come through once they approve you, so you won't lose any weeks you've been requesting. Hang in there everyone!

Kevin, thanks for sharing your experience from 8 months ago - it's really helpful to hear that these delays aren't just a recent issue but have been going on for a while. The coding error in your employer's response is exactly the kind of thing that shows why it's so important to actually get someone on the phone to look at your specific case. It's crazy that something that simple can hold up benefits for over a month! Your timeline matches pretty much everyone else's here - around 5 weeks of waiting, then getting through via Claimyr, and having it resolved within days once a human actually looked at the file. Really reinforces that persistence and knowing when to escalate are key. Appreciate the reassurance about the backpay too - that's been one of my biggest worries while waiting!

Reading through everyone's experiences here really shows that 4-6 weeks has become the unfortunate norm, despite TWC's 21-day promise. What strikes me most is how common the employer non-response issue seems to be - it's happened to multiple people in this thread. Makes me wonder if employers just aren't prioritizing these TWC requests, which then creates these massive delays for claimants who did nothing wrong. The practical advice throughout this discussion has been so helpful - keeping detailed work search logs, checking correspondence regularly, and knowing about resources like Claimyr for when you really need to reach someone. Luca, huge thanks for walking us through your entire journey and updating with the resolution. It gives those of us still waiting a clear roadmap of what to expect and when to take action. Madeline, you're absolutely right about the employer non-response pattern - it's really eye-opening how often that seems to be the culprit behind these delays! I'm at week 2 myself and this thread has been such a reality check. It makes me wonder if TWC should be more proactive about following up with employers who don't respond within their 14-day window, rather than just letting claims sit in limbo for weeks. Your timeline puts you right in that sweet spot where calling might make sense soon if nothing moves. Really appreciate how supportive this community has been - it's so much better than just stressing alone about whether you did something wrong!

This thread is absolutely incredible - thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and timelines! I'm currently at week 2.5 and was already starting to worry that my claim was somehow problematic, but reading through all these stories really normalizes what feels like an endless wait. It's both frustrating and reassuring to see that 4-6 weeks has become the standard despite TWC's misleading 21-day estimate. The recurring theme of employer non-response issues is really concerning - it seems like a systemic problem where employers aren't prioritizing these TWC requests, and then legitimate claimants get stuck in limbo through no fault of their own. Carmen's explanation of the behind-the-scenes process was particularly enlightening about why these delays happen. I've been following all the advice in this thread - keeping detailed work search logs, requesting payments on schedule, and checking my correspondence inbox regularly. It's good to know about Claimyr as a backup option if I hit that 4-5 week mark where escalation becomes necessary. Multiple success stories with that service give me confidence it actually works. Luca, congratulations on finally getting your resolution! Your journey from filing to approval gives those of us still waiting a clear timeline and shows that persistence really does pay off. I've also been following all the preparation advice from this thread, especially keeping those detailed work search logs since several people mentioned how important that documentation is. It's reassuring to have a community like this where people share actual solutions and realistic timelines instead of just the official runaround. This whole discussion has been incredibly educational for someone like me who just filed their claim 10 days ago! I was already getting anxious seeing that "under review" status with no movement, but reading through everyone's experiences here really puts things in perspective. It's honestly shocking that TWC still advertises 21 days when clearly 4-6 weeks is the reality for most people. The pattern of employer non-response causing delays is really concerning - it seems like there should be a better system in place where TWC follows up more aggressively with employers instead of just letting claims sit indefinitely. But at least now I know what's likely happening behind the scenes and can set realistic expectations. I'm taking all the advice from this thread to heart - keeping meticulous work search logs, requesting payments on schedule, and checking my correspondence inbox regularly. Luca, huge congratulations on getting your claim resolved! Your entire journey from filing to approval has been so helpful for those of us just starting this process.
