TWC Back Pay Question - Do They Pay All Weeks At Once?

I was laid off from my warehouse job back in February but didn't file for unemployment until late March (big mistake, I know). My claim was finally approved last week and shows I'm eligible for benefits dating back to when I first lost my job. Has anyone received back pay from TWC before? Do they deposit all those weeks at once or spread them out? I'm owed about $4,200 total and trying to figure out if I should expect one large deposit or multiple smaller ones. Just trying to plan for bills since I'm really behind on everything at this point.

They usually pay all back weeks at once, but it depends on your specific situation. When I got back pay last summer, TWC deposited everything in one lump sum about 3 days after they approved my claim. Make sure you've requested payment for ALL those back weeks through the payment request system - that's a step people sometimes miss. You need to submit separate payment requests for each two-week period you're eligible for, even if they're in the past.

Thanks! I honestly wasn't sure about that part. Do I just go to the payment request section and submit for previous weeks? The system only seemed to let me request the current period when I looked yesterday.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME SITUATION!! The system is SO MESSED UP when it comes to back pay! I waited almost 7 WEEKS for my back payments and when they finally came through, guess what? They only paid me for 3 of the 5 weeks I was owed! Had to call them EIGHT TIMES before I could even talk to someone who could help. They kept saying it was "in process" but nothing happened until I basically harassed them daily. Don't trust the online system to do this correctly!

This isn't entirely accurate. The system works fine for back pay, but you need to follow the correct steps. Their online system actually has a specific section for requesting payments for prior weeks that you might have missed. Go to the Request Payment section, and there should be an option for "Request Payment for Previous Weeks" or something similar.

Do you know if she had to do anything special to get it? Or did it just show up automatically after they approved her?

I was in a similar situation in January. I had to file for back pay going back almost 8 weeks and was super nervous about whether I'd get it all. The TWC website confused me because it only showed options for requesting the current period. What worked for me was calling TWC directly. After 3 days of trying, I finally got through to an agent who manually processed all my back weeks right there on the phone. All the money (about $3,800) showed up in my account two business days later as a single deposit. If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a TWC rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. It was worth it for me since I was dealing with such a large back pay amount.

Did you have to pay for that service? I've been trying to call TWC for two days straight and can't get through.

Make sure u check if ur claim has any "holds" on it. Mine had a verification hold that wasnt showing up on the main screen. Back pay was approved but nothing came thru for like 3 weeks bc of this stupid hold. Had to keep calling until someone actually looked at my account properly. Check the correspondence section too bcause sometimes they send letters about payment issues but dont email u about them lol

Good point - I'll double check for holds. I don't see anything obvious but maybe it's hidden somewhere in the system. The whole TWC website is so confusing to navigate.

To answer your question directly: Yes, TWC typically pays all back weeks at once as a lump sum. However, there are a few important things to understand about the process: 1. You must have requested payment for each of those back weeks (you can do this retroactively) 2. Each payment request covers a two-week period 3. If your claim had any issues requiring investigation, they might be processed in stages 4. The payment will appear as a single deposit from TWC regardless of how many weeks it covers For someone in your situation with back pay dating to February, here's what you need to do: Log into your TWC account, go to Payment Request, and look for the option to request payment for previous claim periods. You'll need to submit separate requests for each two-week period. Once all requests are processed (usually within 2-3 business days), you should receive the full amount owed. If the system doesn't allow you to request past periods online, you'll need to call TWC directly.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll check for that specific option to request previous periods. I must have missed it. Really appreciate the detailed explanation.

Anybody else notice that sometimes TWC deducts random amounts from back pay with NO explanation?? They took almost $340 from my back pay and the only explanation was "adjustment" - when I finally got someone on the phone they said it was for a week where I reported 4 hours of work but they somehow calculated it as if I worked 22 hours!! Had to file an appeal which STILL isn't resolved 2 months later!!

While adjustments do happen, they're not typically random. They're usually related to reported work hours, overpayments, or tax withholding. It sounds like in your case there was a data entry error somewhere. For anyone reading this thread, always double-check the payment summary for each week to make sure the hours reported match what you actually worked.

Update: I finally found the option to request previous weeks! It was hidden under a submenu I hadn't noticed before. I've submitted requests for all the back weeks now. The system says I should receive payment within 2-3 business days. I'll post again once it comes through to let everyone know if it was all at once or split up. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great! That's exactly what you needed to do. The TWC interface isn't the most intuitive, but you're on the right track now. Most likely you'll see the entire amount as a single deposit within 2-3 business days as long as there are no issues with any of the individual weeks.

Final update: The back pay came through today! It was deposited as one lump sum payment for all weeks, exactly as most of you said. It took exactly 3 business days after I submitted all the payment requests. Such a relief to finally have this money after months of struggling. Thanks again to everyone who helped me figure this out!
