Only got half payment from NY unemployment this week but benefit amount increased?

So I certified on Sunday like usual for last week and my payment just hit today, but it's only showing $297 instead of the normal $594 I've been getting. When I check my payment history it shows they only paid me for 2 days instead of the 4 days I claimed. The weird thing is my total maximum benefit amount actually increased by about $1,800 out of nowhere. I double-checked my certification and I definitely said I was available and looking for work all 4 days. Been receiving benefits since August after getting laid off, and this is the first time something like this happened. Anyone else experiencing payment issues this week or know what might be going on? The phone lines are impossible to get through.

This happened to me too actually! Last week I only got $275 which is half my normal payment. Checked my payment history and it only shows 2 days instead of the 4 I certified for. No idea why this is happening but at least im not alone. Did you try calling them yet?

I've been trying to call since yesterday morning but can never get through. Either busy signal or it hangs up after the automated message 😓

After dealing with ny unemployment for months and getting nowhere with their phones, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to a real person. Talking to an agent got my payments fixed in minutes after weeks of frustration. Best decision I made to finally get my benefits sorted out. They have a YouTube video explaining how it works too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

is this actually real? sounds too good to be true tbh

Yeah its real. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for 2 weeks straight. They connect you with an actual agent. Literally got my issue fixed in one call.

another 'miracle solution' huh... what's the catch? 🙄

no catch, they just help you skip the phone queue. i was missing 3 weeks of payments and the agent fixed it all during that call

I used it too last month when my claim was stuck in pending for 6 weeks. Not gonna lie, it worked. Got through to someone who fixed my claim that same day.

The same exact thing is happening to me right now! I certified on Sunday for 4 days but only got paid for 2 days. My benefit rate is $540 normally but I just got $270 deposited yesterday. The system is so messed up. I think there must be a glitch in their system affecting multiple people.

OK so I actually work with someone who used to work for unemployment. They said this happens sometimes when there's a holiday or end of quarter processing. The system splits your payment but you should get the other half either later this week or with your next payment. Keep an eye on your payment history for a separate deposit. If you don't see the other half by next week, then you definitely need to call.

That makes sense! There was a holiday last week. Thanks for this info, I'll wait and see if the other half shows up.

This happened to me before too. Got the second payment 3 days later. System is just slow sometimes.

oh that would explain it, fingers crossed the rest comes through soon

Wait you said your maximum benefit amount went UP? That's really weird. Usually when something changes with your claim the total goes down not up. Did you recently submit any additional wage info or something?

0 coins

Nope, didn't submit anything new. It just randomly went up by like $1,800. Makes no sense to me either.

hmm thats actually kinda good news then? maybe they found additional wages in the system or did some kind of adjustment in your favor. I'd still call to figure out the half-payment issue tho

I think there's definitely some kind of system issue happening right now with NY unemployment. My friend got overpaid last week (got paid for 5 days when she only certified for 4) and I got underpaid (only 3 days worth when I certified for 4). The DOL website has been super glitchy lately too.

Their system is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point 😂

tell ur friend to save that extra money... they WILL ask for it back eventually lol

Have you checked if there was some kind of break in claim message or partial denial for specific days? Sometimes they'll only pay for certain days if there's an issue with part of your certification. Check your messages in your online account to see if they sent you anything explaining why.

0 coins

Just checked and there's nothing in my messages explaining it. Everything looks normal except for the payment amount.

Hmm that's strange then. Definitely sounds like a system error if multiple people are experiencing it.

I've been dealing with the NY unemployment system for over a year now and seen every problem imaginable. Here's what could be happening: 1. System glitch that's affecting multiple people (seems likely based on other comments) 2. Holiday processing delay for part of your payment 3. They flagged part of your certification for review (but usually you'd get a message) 4. Quarterly wage review causing payment splits 5. System update gone wrong (they've been "upgrading" things lately) Your best options: - Wait 2-3 business days to see if the other half appears - Keep trying to call early morning (7:30-8:00am) or late afternoon (4:30pm) - Use claimyr.com if you need to talk to someone urgently - it's what I used after trying for weeks to get through - Submit a message through your account (though they're slow to respond) - The benefit amount increasing is actually good news - they may have found additional wages Don't worry too much yet - these payment hiccups usually resolve, but you definitely need to stay on top of it!

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll wait a couple days before panicking.

That claimyr service actually works? I've wasted so many hours trying to call...

Yeah it does work. I was skeptical too but after 3 weeks of calling with no luck I tried it. Got through to an agent who fixed my issue in minutes. Worth every penny when you're missing hundreds in benefits.

lol the NY unemployment system is such trash. My payments have been all over the place for months - random amounts, delayed deposits, mysterious holds. Try calling your local assemblyperson's office - they have direct contacts at DOL and can sometimes help push things through.

Try logging into your account and looking at the payment history details. Click on the payment and see if there's any notes or reasons listed for the partial payment. Sometimes they'll have codes or explanations there that aren't obvious from the main screen.

0 coins

Just checked and there's nothing unusual in the details. Just shows 2 days effective days instead of 4, but no explanation why.

This just started happening to me too! Got my deposit today and it's exactly half my normal amount. When I look at the payment history it shows only 2 effective days instead of 4. I think it must be a system wide issue if so many people are experiencing it at the same time.

0 coins

Are you sure you entered your certification correctly? Sometimes if you make a mistake like saying you weren't available for work on certain days, they'll only pay you for the days you were available. Double check your certification history.

0 coins

Yeah I double-checked my certification and I definitely said I was available and looking for work all 4 days. I've been certifying the same way for months without issues.

0 coins

Well thats weird then. Def sounds like a system error.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know my payment issue got resolved. I finally got through to someone at unemployment using that Claimyr service and they explained there was a system glitch affecting a bunch of people. The agent said the other half of the payment should process in the next 48 hours. They also confirmed my benefit amount increase was due to a wage recalculation they did recently.

So that claimyr thing actually worked for you? might need to try it myself

Yeah it did! Only way I've been able to talk to a real person after weeks of trying. My issue got fixed in one call.

Check if you accidentally entered partial unemployment. If you reported any work or earnings, even a small amount, it can reduce your payment for those days. Just a thought!

0 coins

Didn't report any work or earnings - still fully unemployed unfortunately 😕

The benefit amount increase is actually good news! I had something similar happen last year - got a random increase of about $2000. Turns out they did a review of my wages and found additional earnings they hadn't counted before. You'll probably get more weekly benefits going forward too!

0 coins

That would be amazing! Fingers crossed that's what's happening here.

has anyone figured out whats going on???? same thing happened to me and i need this money for rent asap 😭😭😭

•

Based on what people are saying, it seems like a system glitch affecting multiple people. The other half of your payment should come through in a few days. If you need to talk to someone ASAP, try claimyr.com - it's the only way I've been able to reach a human at unemployment lately.
