Lost a week of ny unemployment because certification didn't go through on my phone
Really frustrated right now. I certified for my weekly benefits three weeks ago using the mobile site on my phone. Everything seemed normal, got the confirmation screen and everything. Fast forward to the following Sunday when I went to certify again, and the system asked me if I had worked during the previous week. I answered no since I'm still unemployed, completed my certification, and expected to get paid for both weeks. Well, I just checked my payment history and only got paid for one week! The week I certified on my phone is completely missing from my payment history. I've tried calling the unemployment office about 20 times with no luck getting through. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any way to get that missing week's payment? I'm behind on rent and really need that money.

Same thing happened to me last month. The mobile site is trash. My certification looked like it went through but apparently didn't register in their system. You need to get on the phone with someone to backdate that certification. fair warning tho - getting through is a NIGHTMARE.

•How long did it take you to get through to someone? I've been trying all week with no luck...

•took me like 3 days of constant calling. I finally gave up and used claimyr.com after seeing it recommended here. They got me connected to an agent same day who fixed the missing week.

•its a service that waits on hold with unemployment for you then calls your phone when an agent picks up. saved me hours of hold music lol. talking to the agent got my payment released right away

After spending 2 weeks pulling my hair out trying to call ny unemployment, I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you and connects you when they get an agent. Got connected in about 45 minutes and the agent was able to backdate my certification and release the payment. Talking to an agent got my $$ unlocked so fast - wish I had known about it sooner! They also have this video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•how does that even work? sounds sketchy af

•basically they have a system that dials for you and stays on hold, then calls your phone when they get a real person. no need to sit listening to that awful hold music for hours. it bypasses the whole busy signal problem

•do they actually connect you or is this just some scam?

•they actually connect you - thats literally all they do. once your connected its just you talking directly to unemployment. i was skeptical too but it worked perfectly and saved me hours of frustration

This happened to me too! the mobile interface is garbage. I was hitting submit but nothing was happening. If you don't see that payment in your history, it means it never went through. You have to call and have them do a backdated certification for you.

The whole ny unemployment system is a complete joke. They expect people to somehow magically know when their certifications don't go through even though they show confirmation screens 🤡 Then they make it impossible to reach anyone by phone. Classic government efficiency at work!

•Not to mention their website looks like it was built in 1997 and never updated 😂

Here's what you need to do to fix this issue with your missing unemployment payment in NY: First, document everything - the date you certified, any confirmation numbers or screenshots you might have. The mobile site has known issues with certifications not completing properly even when you get confirmation screens. Second, you NEED to speak with a representative. There's absolutely no way around this for backdated certifications. Unfortunately, calling directly almost never works - you'll hit busy signals for days. I went through this exact scenario last year and tried multiple methods: 1) Sending messages through the online system - took weeks for responses 2) Calling at different times/days - completely useless, just busy signals 3) Emailing local representatives - mixed results, slow responses What finally worked was using Claimyr.com - it's a service that basically waits on hold for you and then calls your phone when they get a live agent. I was skeptical but desperate after two weeks of trying. It connected me with an agent who resolved my missed certification in minutes. The agent backdated my certification and released the payment that day. Once you get through to someone, clearly explain that you certified but the system didn't register it. They can verify this on their end and should be able to process your backdated certification immediately. Make sure you're prepared with the exact week dates you're missing. Don't wait too long - there are time limits on how far back they'll let you certify!

•Thank you for this detailed response! Did you have to provide any proof that you tried to certify, or did they just take your word for it?

•They could actually see in their system that I had logged in and started the certification process but it never completed. So they knew I wasn't making it up. Just be honest about exactly what happened and they're usually understanding.

•hows this claimyr thing work? never heard of it before

•It's pretty simple - you pay them (way cheaper than losing a week of benefits) and they use their system to keep dialing until they get through the busy signals. When they get a live person, they call your phone and connect you. Saves hours of frustration.

I swear the NY unemployment website is purposely designed to be confusing so people miss payments. The desktop site works better than mobile - nEVER use your phone to certify if you can avoid it. Rookie mistake but we've all been there.

Check your email - sometimes they send you notices when certifications fail but they go to spam. Also log into your account and check the messages section. You might have something there explaining what happened.

•Just checked both - nothing there. It's like the system doesn't even recognize that I tried to certify that week.

when this happened to me I had to call like 50 times before getting through. When I finally got an agent they were actually really helpful and fixed it right away. they backdated my certification and I got the payment 2 days later. keep trying!!

lmaooo welcome to the absolute clusterfuck that is the ny unemployment system. where certifications vanish, phones are never answered, and everyone is just one glitch away from not paying rent 💯

I've learned to take screenshots of EVERYTHING when dealing with unemployment. Confirmation pages, submission pages, even the starting pages. It's saved me multiple times when stuff like this happens. You need documentation to prove you tried to certify when they inevitably mess something up.

•That's really smart, wish I had done that. Even though I got a confirmation screen I have no proof now.

•I even record videos of myself going through the certification process now. Sounds crazy but it's saved me twice when they tried to claim I never certified.

try calling RIGHT when they open at 8:00 am. I got through on my first try doing that. the key is being on the phone dialing at literally 7:59 so your call goes through the second they open.

Try their social media accounts. Sometimes messaging them on Twitter or Facebook gets faster responses than calling. Worth a shot if you're desperate.

the real answer nobody wants to admit: if you need that money fast, you HAVE to talk to someone on the phone. period. no email or message will get this fixed quickly. I used claimyr.com after weeks of frustration and got through to an agent in under an hour. paid a little $ but it was worth it to get my benefits unlocked.

FYI there's a time limit on backdating certifications - I think it's 4 weeks. So don't wait too long to get this fixed or you'll lose that week permanently!

Anyone else notice how their "technical issues" always seem to benefit the state by reducing payments? 🤔 Like how they always process denials instantly but approvals take weeks. Just saying...

Have you tried calling your state representative? They sometimes have direct lines to unemployment office and can escalate your case. Worked for me when I was in a similar situation.

don't worry too much - this is super common and totally fixable. you just need to get someone on the phone which is the hard part. once you do they can usually fix it in like 2 minutes. hang in there!
