New York Unemployment: Do I need to attend career advisor meeting after getting a job?
Started a new job this week and will stop certifying for unemployment. Have a mandatory career advisor meeting scheduled next week. Not sure if I should still attend or if skipping it will affect my previous benefits. Anyone know what happens if I skip since I'm employed now?

Just go to the meeting. Its only like 30 mins and not worth the risk of them trying to get money back. They can be real sticklers about this stuff 🙄

Hey! I had the same issue but found a workaround. Used claimyr.com to get through to an agent and they helped me cancel the meeting since I had proof of employment. Cost $20 but worth it to get a clear answer. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Yeah totally legit! They dial and wait on hold, then call you when someone picks up. Saved me hours of frustration

Listen up - here's what you need to know about career advisor meetings and benefits: First, congratulations on the new job! However, you should absolutely handle this properly to protect your previous benefits. Here's why: - Missing mandatory meetings can trigger a benefits review - They can retroactively disqualify you and demand repayment - The system flags non-compliance automatically Best options: 1. Attend the meeting (safest option) 2. Call and explain your situation (use claimyr.com if you can't get through - totally worth the $20) 3. Submit proof of employment through your online account DON'T just ghost the meeting. That's the worst thing you can do. The NY unemployment system is looking for any reason to claw back benefits. Cover yourself and do this right.
