How to cancel scheduled EDD phone interview after finding new job?

Good news but I'm a bit confused - I have a video interview with EDD scheduled for next Monday (May 13), but I just got hired and start my new job this Friday! I'm not sure what I should do about the interview since I won't need unemployment benefits anymore. Do I just not show up? Is there a way to cancel the appointment? Will I get penalized if I just don't attend? I don't want to waste anyone's time or have any issues down the road if I ever need to file for unemployment again. Has anyone been in this situation before? Thanks for any help!

Congrats on the new job! You should definitely notify EDD rather than just not showing up. Call the main EDD number 1-800-300-5616 and let them know you found employment and need to cancel your interview. They might also ask when you started working so they can correctly process your final weeks of benefits (if any). Make sure to still certify for any weeks before your job starts.

Good luck getting through on that number though... I spent DAYS trying. If u need to reach them quickly, try Claimyr.com - they got me through to an EDD rep in less than 20 minutes when I needed to cancel an interview too. They have a demo video here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Way easier than banging your head against the wall with the regular number!

This is incorrect advice. You absolutely should properly notify EDD about your new employment. If you don't, they may continue to consider your claim active, which could create problems if you accidentally certify after starting work or if they try to contact you for additional information. Always close out your claim properly.

Thanks everyone! I'll try calling tomorrow to let them know. I was hoping there might be an option in UI Online to cancel the interview but I couldn't find anything like that. Appreciate the help!

My husband had the EXACT same situation last year!!! He ended up sending an email through the Contact EDD option in UI Online since he couldn't get through on the phone. They actually responded within 48 hours and cancelled his interview. Try that if calling doesn't work!!!!

THE EDD SYSTEM IS SUCH A JOKE!! They make it IMPOSSIBLE to reach them for simple things like cancelling appointments but then penalize YOU if you miss it. Classic government inefficiency. I bet if you were calling to give THEM money they'd pick up on the first ring!!!! I've been fighting with them for 6 weeks over an overpayment they claim I owe from 2024.

While the system can certainly be frustrating, it's important to remember that EDD handles millions of claims with limited staff. For the original question: make sure you also report your return to work during your next certification period. You'll need to enter your employment information including the date you started working and your gross earnings (before taxes). This is in addition to cancelling the interview.

One more thing - make sure to keep documentation showing you attempted to notify them about cancelling the interview. A screenshot of the Contact EDD message or call logs can be helpful if there's ever any question about whether you tried to properly notify them.

That's a great point about keeping documentation! I hadn't thought about that. I'll definitely take screenshots of any communications I send them through the portal. For anyone finding this thread later - I was able to use the Contact EDD option through UI Online and got a confirmation email that my message was received, so at least I have that proof I tried to notify them.

Thanks! I'm in healthcare administration. It took me almost 5 months of searching so I know how tough it is out there. Don't give up hope! For what it's worth, I ended up getting this job through a connection from a previous coworker rather than through all the online applications I was doing.

Yes, you can face penalties for missing scheduled EDD interviews without prior notification. It can be marked as failure to participate, which may result in disqualification from benefits for that period. Additionally, it could create complications if you need to file for unemployment in the future as there would be an unresolved issue on your previous claim. This is why it's important to properly notify EDD about your change in employment status and cancel the interview through official channels.

Hey, did you end up getting through to EDD? Just curious which method worked for you. I had a similar situation last month (though mine was a phone interview not video) and it took me forever to cancel it properly.

Yes! I ended up using both methods just to be safe. I sent a message through the UI Online portal AND I got through on the phone using the Claimyr service someone mentioned above. The rep confirmed they canceled my interview and noted my account that I found employment. They also explained I still need to do my final certification for the weeks before I started working. Really relieved to have this taken care of!
