Need advice on cancelling EDD unemployment - what to prepare for the call?
Hey everyone, I need some advice. I'm planning to cancel my unemployment benefits and I'm not sure how to go about it. I've got an appointment with EDD coming up to discuss my claim. Any tips on what I should prepare or how to handle the conversation? I want to make sure I do this right and don't mess anything up.

When I cancelled my unemployment, I made sure to have all my claim info ready. Be clear about why youre cancelling and ask about any consequences. Write down everything they tell you! Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I'd add: ask about any overpayments or if you need to repay anything. That caught me off guard 😓

•Yep, and don't forget to ask about how this might affect future claims if you need to file again. Better safe than sorry!

•Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely make a list of questions to ask, including about overpayments and future claims. Appreciate the help! 🙏

Ugh, good luck actually getting through to EDD. I've been trying for weeks and can never get a human on the line. Its so frustrating!

•I feel you. EDD's phone system is a nightmare. I swear they do it on purpose to discourage people from calling 🙄

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way!

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to make a phone call.

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. After weeks of trying, I was desperate. The $20 was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Your call tho 🤷♂️

Here's what you need to do when cancelling your unemployment: 1. Gather all your claim information, including your claim number and any recent correspondence. 2. Prepare a clear explanation for why you're cancelling. Are you returning to work? No longer eligible? 3. Ask about the effective date of cancellation and how it affects your current claim week. 4. Inquire about any potential overpayments and how to handle them. 5. Understand how this cancellation might impact future claims if you need to file again. 6. Get information on any final paperwork or online forms you need to submit. 7. Ask for a confirmation number or email for your cancellation request. 8. Find out if there's a waiting period if you need to reopen your claim later. Remember to be polite but firm, and don't hang up until all your questions are answered. Good luck!

Anyone else feel like the whole unemployment system is designed to be as confusing as possible? 🤔 Like they're trying to discourage us from using it...

•Preach! 🙌 It's a bureaucratic maze designed to wear us down. Stay strong, OP!

•Tin foil hat time: what if it's intentionally bad so private companies can offer "solutions" and make money off our frustration? 🤡

Just curious, OP - why are you cancelling? Did you find a new job? If so, congrats!

•Thanks for asking! Yeah, I actually got a new job offer. It's not perfect, but it's a start. Figured it was time to close this chapter.
