I just went thru this!!! Make sure you understand which type of hearing it is - are they disputing your eligibility completely or just specific weeks? BIG difference! If they're saying you misreported income for specific weeks, focus only on those weeks. Don't get distracted explaining other stuff. Have your facts SUPER organized by date!
After reading through this thread, I think you're on the right track with your preparation. One final suggestion: try to speak with an EDD representative before your hearing to confirm exactly which certification periods are in dispute. This will help you narrow your focus when presenting evidence. It sounds like your situation involves confusion about when earnings should be reported (when earned vs. when paid), which is a common issue. Be prepared to explain your understanding of the reporting requirements at the time you filed those certifications. Judges often consider whether you made a good faith effort to report correctly.
Thank you everyone for all this helpful advice! I feel much more prepared now. I'm going to try reaching EDD this week to get clarity on the specific weeks in question, organize all my documentation, and prepare a brief explanation of my confusion about reporting timing. I'll update this thread after my hearing to let you know how it went!
When you apply online, make sure you're using a desktop computer if possible, not a mobile device. Many of the website errors happen on phones or tablets. If you keep getting the error message, try using Internet Explorer (yes, the old browser) as the EDD website sometimes works better with it. For phone contact, here's a method that worked for me: call the 833-978-2511 number, press 1 for English, then when prompted press 2 and immediately after press 4. This sequence sometimes gets you to a queue instead of the disconnection message. Be prepared to wait 1-2 hours once you're in the queue. While you're waiting to get through, gather all your employment information: last employer details, start/end dates, reason for separation, wages earned, etc. Having this ready will make the application process much smoother when you finally connect.
Just wanted to update that I was able to get through today! I tried the 833 number that people suggested with the 1-2-4 sequence right at 8:01am. It took about 7 attempts but I finally got into the queue instead of being disconnected. Waited about 45 minutes but finally spoke to someone who helped me file my claim. They said I should receive my account number in the mail within 10 days. Thank you everyone for the help!
If the employer doesn't appear, the hearing still proceeds with just the claimant (you) and the judge. This often works in the claimant's favor, as the judge only hears your side. However, the judge will still examine any written evidence the employer submitted previously. In voluntary quit cases, the employer has the burden of proof, so their absence can significantly strengthen your position.
Quick update on my previous comment - I forgot to mention that you should practice your testimony beforehand. The worst thing is to sound uncertain or keep changing your story. If you don't remember something, it's better to say "I don't recall" than to guess. Also, since your case involves the distinction between quitting and being laid off due to "restructuring," focus on showing that: 1. You would have continued working if given the choice 2. The decision to end employment came from the employer 3. You had no reasonable alternatives offered The hearing notice should indicate what specific section of the unemployment code is at issue (likely Section 1256). Look up that specific section online to understand exactly what the judge is evaluating.
i switched to direct deposit as soon as they announced the money network change. best decision ever. takes like 2 days after certification to hit my bank account. no more card drama
Just checking back - were you able to get through using any of the suggestions here? The Money Network transition has been a nightmare for so many people, but eventually things do get resolved.
Yes! Thanks to everyone here. I followed the advice about calling Money Network using option 4 early in the morning and FINALLY got through to a person. They confirmed my card was mailed last week and gave me a tracking number. Also went ahead and set up direct deposit for future payments. Such a relief!

Just checking back - were you able to contact EDD about your delayed payment? If so, what did they say was causing the hold-up?

•Thanks for following up! I was finally able to get through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Turns out EDD had flagged my account for an eligibility interview because of the amended wages, but they never sent me a notification about it. The rep scheduled an interview for next week and said my payments should process after that. At least now I know what's happening!
