Need advice on reopening EDD claim - job ended April 20th

Hey everyone, I need some advice. I'm trying to reopen my unemployment claim and I'm not sure about the process. My last job ended on April 20th. Has anyone gone through this recently? What should I expect when I talk to EDD? Any tips would be really appreciated!

I just went through this last month. Make sure you have the exact date your job ended - they'll ask for it. Also, be prepared to explain why you're reopening the claim. They might ask about any work or income since your last claim closed.

Thanks for the info! Did they ask for any specific documents when you called?

Not during the call, but they did send me a request for additional info afterwards. Had to upload some paystubs and a letter from my last employer. Just keep an eye on your EDD inbox!

Ugh, good luck. I've been trying to get through to EDD for weeks. The hold times are insane!

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

Yeah, I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

I've used it twice now. Totally worth the 20 bucks imho

Make sure you check if you're eligible for a new claim or if you need to reopen an existing one. The rules can be confusing af šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

When you talk to them, ask about any new programs or extensions you might be eligible for. Sometimes they don't volunteer that info unless you specifically ask.

Good point, I'll definitely do that. Any specific programs I should mention?

It depends on your situation, but you could ask about PEUC (Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation) or FED-ED. Just explain your circumstances and they should be able to tell you what's available.

Here's a detailed breakdown of what to expect when reopening your claim: • First, log into your UI Online account and check if there's an option to reopen your claim. Sometimes you can do it online without calling. • If you have to call, be prepared with your personal info, last employer details, and the reason for reopening. • They'll ask about any work or income since your last claim, so have those dates and amounts ready. • You might need to explain why you're eligible for unemployment again. Be honest and clear about your situation. • Ask about your benefit year and if you need to file a new claim or just reopen the existing one. • Inquire about any waiting periods or if benefits can be backdated. • After the call, keep an eye on your EDD inbox for any follow-up requests or forms to fill out. • If approved, you'll need to certify for benefits every two weeks. Set a reminder for this! Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

anyone else feel like theyre playing unemployment roulette? never know if youll get a helpful agent or someone who just wants to get you off the phone asap šŸŽ°

Omg yes! I swear it's like rolling the dice every time you call šŸ˜‚

Pro tip: if you get a unhelpful agent, politely end the call and try again. No shame in agent shopping lol

Make sure your resume is up to date on CalJobs. Sometimes they check and it can delay your claim if it's not there.

Anybody know if theres a way to check the status of a reopened claim online? or do we just wait for them to contact us
