Need help reopening EDD claim - what to expect when calling?
Hey everyone, I need to reopen my unemployment claim but I'm not sure how to go about it. I got a letter from EDD saying I need to reopen it, but I'm confused about the process. Has anyone gone through this before? What should I expect when I call them? Any tips would be really appreciated!

I've been through this before. Make sure you have all your recent employment info ready when you call. Tell them clearly you need to 'reopen a claim' and explain why it was closed or paused. They'll probably ask about your work history since the claim was last active.

•Thanks for the advice! Do you remember how long the call took? I'm worried about being on hold forever.

•Oof, the hold times can be brutal. Last time I called, I was on hold for like 3 hours 😫 But once I got through, the actual process only took about 20 minutes.

•3 hours?! That's insane. The EDD system is such a joke sometimes 🤡

Ugh, reopening claims is such a headache. I had to do it twice last year. Make sure you're super patient and have nothing else planned for the day when you call. The wait times are ridiculous.

Hey guys, I found a way to get through to someone on the phone without the crazy wait times. I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me a whole day of being glued to my phone.

•$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. The system is so broken that we have to pay extra just to use it? smh

•I get it, but for me, it was worth it to avoid the stress and wasted time. Plus, I probably saved money on my phone bill from not being on hold for hours lol

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. I've had better luck getting through quickly that way.

Here's a detailed breakdown of what to expect when reopening your claim: • Have your last employer's info ready (name, address, dates worked) • Be prepared to explain why your claim needs to be reopened • They might ask about any income you've earned since your last claim • You'll likely need to verify your identity again • Be ready to answer questions about your job search efforts • They may ask about any changes in your personal info (address, phone, etc.) The process usually takes about 20-30 minutes once you get through to someone. Don't forget to be patient and polite with the rep - they're dealing with a lot right now too! Good luck, OP! Let us know how it goes.

Has anyone tried using the online system to reopen their claim? I've heard mixed things about it.

•I tried it once and it was a disaster. Ended up having to call anyway. YMMV tho

•It worked okay for me, but took forever to process. Calling is probably faster if you can get through.

Just a heads up, I heard they changed some of the eligibility requirements recently. Make sure you double-check that you still qualify before you go through the whole process!

OP, whatever you do, DON'T give up! I know it's frustrating, but keep trying. Took me weeks to get my claim reopened, but I finally did it. You got this! 💪
