EDD unemployment claim mistake: How to fix incorrect income reporting?

Hey everyone, I messed up on my unemployment claim and need some advice. I accidentally marked that I wouldn't be receiving income from my employer, but that's not true. I'm gonna call EDD to fix this, but I'm nervous about what to say. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What should I expect when I talk to them? Any tips on how to explain this without getting in trouble?

Has anyone tried reaching out to their local assembly member for help with EDD issues? I've heard they can sometimes expedite things.

YES! This worked for me. My assemblyman's office was super helpful and got my issue resolved in like a week

I tried this and they just gave me the same runaround as EDD. YMMV I guess 🤷‍♂️

It's worth reaching out to your assembly member since they can sometimes apply pressure on your behalf. Results may vary, but it's an option that many don't consider.

I work in HR and deal with EDD stuff all the time. Here's a pro tip: ask for a 'claim specialist' when you call. They're usually more knowledgeable and can handle complex issues better than the regular agents.

Having the right contacts within a system can make a significant difference in how quickly and effectively issues are resolved. Specialists often have the training and authority to make necessary adjustments.

Don't sweat it, mistakes happen. Just be honest with them and explain it was an accident. They deal with this stuff all the time. Make sure you have your employment details handy when you call.

Absolutely, honesty is the best policy when dealing with these situations. The EDD agents are trained to handle errors like this, so staying calm and straightforward will definitely help your case.

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You'll have a better chance of getting through before the lines get jammed up.

This is solid advice. I've had better luck early in the morning, especially on weekdays.

Quick question - did you already certify for any weeks with the incorrect info? If so, make sure to mention that when you call. They might need to adjust those weeks too.

Mateo Hernandez

Oh shoot, I didn't even think about that. Thanks for bringing it up!

Great catch! Correcting your certification as soon as possible can prevent potential overpayments or delays in your benefits.

I found a way to get through! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, waits on hold, and then connects you when an agent picks up. It costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

I've been in the same boat, my friend. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call EDD as soon as possible. The sooner you correct the mistake, the better. 2. Have all your employment info ready - dates, employer name, income amounts, etc. 3. Explain calmly that you made an honest mistake when filling out the form. 4. Ask them what steps you need to take to correct the information. 5. Take notes during the call so you don't forget anything important. 6. If they ask you to submit any additional documents, do it right away. Remember, they're used to dealing with these issues. Just be polite and cooperative, and you should be fine. Good luck!

Great advice! I'd add: if the first person you talk to isn't helpful, don't be afraid to call back and try again. Sometimes you just get a grumpy agent

Also, remember to have any correspondence you've had with EDD handy. Having a paper trail can be incredibly helpful for reference during your call.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get basic help? The system is clearly not designed for actual humans to use 🤦‍♂️

Totally agree. We need to push for reform in how unemployment is handled. This is unacceptable in 2023

Reform is necessary, but in the meantime, we have to navigate the current system. Sharing tips and tools like Claimyr can be a stopgap solution while we push for broader changes.

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website is always 'down for maintenance' at the most inconvenient times? It's like they're trolling us at this point 🤡

Maintenance during peak hours can be incredibly frustrating. Planning tasks around downtime may help mitigate this annoyance.

Claimyr seems to have a genuine user base, but always proceed with caution and consider checking reviews or asking for others' experiences before making a decision.

lol good luck. EDD is a joke. I've been waiting 3 months for them to fix a 'simple mistake' on my claim. The whole system is broken af

I made a similar mistake on my claim last year. Took about 3 weeks to get it sorted out, but it all worked out in the end. Hang in there!

Good to hear that it worked out for you! Patience and persistence often pay off in these bureaucratic situations.

Hey OP, don't forget to certify for your weeks while you're waiting to get this sorted out. You don't want to miss out on benefits you're eligible for!

Important reminder! Certifying regularly ensures that you continue to receive whatever benefits you're eligible for while waiting for your issue to be resolved.
