EDD denied benefits due to accidental wrong last day reported - How to appeal?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with unemployment benefits. I accidentally reported the wrong last day worked for one of my jobs (I work at two different places with different schedules). Now EDD is saying I made a false statement and denied my benefits. I didn't mean to lie, it was just a mistake! Anyone know how I can fix this? I need to know when they'll lift this penalty and if there's a way to appeal. Any advice would be appreciated!

pro tip: call right when they open. I always get through within 15 minutes if I call at 8:01 am

have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds old school but sometimes it works when nothing else does

•Faxing may seem outdated, but it can sometimes bypass the busy phone lines.

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. Made a tiny mistake and now I'm out of benefits. The system is so unforgiving. Solidarity, friend 💪

Hey OP, make sure you keep detailed records of all your communications with EDD. It'll help if you need to escalate this further

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

•$20 just to talk to someone?? That's highway robbery!

•Claimyr seems to be a helpful tool for some, but it's important to weigh the cost. Maybe look for reviews from others who've used it.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! I swear they're looking for any excuse to deny benefits. Sorry you're dealing with this mess, OP. Have you tried calling them to explain the situation?

•As frustrating as it is, keep trying. Sometimes calling during non-peak hours or using automated systems can help.

Anyone else feel like we need to completely overhaul the unemployment system? It's clearly not working for so many people

•100% agree. We need a system that actually helps people when they need it, not this bureaucratic nightmare

I had a similar issue last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Document everything. Write down exactly what happened, when you made the mistake, and how you discovered it. 2. Fill out the appeal form (DE 1000M). You can find it on the EDD website. 3. Gather any evidence you have - emails, pay stubs, anything that shows it was an honest mistake. 4. Be persistent. Keep calling and trying to reach someone. 5. Consider reaching out to your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes help push things through. It took me about 2 months to get it resolved, but I finally got my benefits. Don't give up!

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start working on that appeal form. Did you have to mail it in or could you submit it online?

•I mailed mine in, but I think you can submit online now. Just make sure to keep a copy of everything for your records!

This happened to my cousin. He ended up having to pay back like $5000 in benefits. Be careful and get this sorted asap!

Update: I finally got through to someone on the phone! They said I need to file an appeal and it could take up to 3 months to process. Ugh. At least I know what to do now. Thanks for all the advice, everyone!
