NY unemployment claim vanished with 3 weeks left - system asking for new application

My boyfriend's unemployment claim just vanished into thin air. He had about 21 days remaining on his benefit period and now the whole claim is completely gone from the system. He successfully certified this past Sunday like normal, then yesterday we checked and everything disappeared. The system is now telling him he needs to submit a whole new claim. We're freaking out because that money is how we're paying rent next month. Has anyone else experienced their claim disappearing? Is this some kind of system glitch? How do we get his existing claim restored instead of starting the whole process over again?

This EXACT same thing happened to me last month. I called them like 50 times but couldn't get through to anyone. The phone system is complete garbage. I ended up using claimyr.com and got a callback with a real agent within a couple hours. Turns out they had some system update that messed up a bunch of claims but they fixed it on the spot. Seriously saved me from being evicted. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Is this some kinda scam? Never heard of this before

0 coins

Not a scam at all! I was super skeptical too but was desperate after spending 3 days trying to get through. They just call for you and connect you when a human answers. No personal info needed. Best money I spent all year tbh

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol

Think what you want but it worked for me 🤷‍♀️ Took like 2 hours instead of 2 weeks of trying. My claim got fixed same day.

I've seen other people mention this too. Might give it a try cuz I'm going crazy with these busy signals

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? unemployment's phone system has destroyed my will to live

0 coins

It worked for me! They just stay on hold for you and call when a human picks up. Talking to an agent got my claim fixed in one call.

I had this happen. Turned out my benefit year had ended even though I still had money and weeks left. Had to file a new claim and wait through the whole process again. The system is trash.

How long did it take to get approved again? We're really stressing about this

0 coins

took about 3 weeks which was way longer than i could afford. i'd definitely try to get someone on the phone

The NY unemployment system is designed to be as frustrating as possible to make people give up 🤡 The whole things a joke

I work in IT and can explain what's likely happening here. The NY unemployment system runs on ancient mainframe tech from the 80s that periodically does batch processing on claims data. Sometimes when they run system updates or maintenance, claims can get moved to different database tables or flagged incorrectly. This creates the illusion that your claim "disappeared" when it's actually just been flagged as expired or miscategorized in their system. You have a few options: 1. Call repeatedly until you get through (could take days/weeks) 2. Submit a message through the contact portal on the website (slow response) 3. Use a service like claimyr.com that can get you connected to an agent quickly (this is what worked for me after trying for 2 weeks to get through) 4. File a new claim as they're suggesting (risky, could create more problems) The most important thing is to get a human agent on the phone who can see the backend of your claim. They can usually restore access to your original claim and fix whatever database flag is causing the issue. The agents actually have a lot more power to fix things than most people realize, but getting to them is deliberately difficult. I went through this nightmare last year and wasted weeks before finally getting someone who fixed it in 5 minutes. Don't file a new claim until you've at least spoken to someone!

This is super helpful thank you! Did you have to use that claimyr site to get through? How long did it take?

0 coins

Yeah I ended up using Claimyr after trying everything else. Got connected to an agent in about 90 minutes. They just do the calling/holding for you. Definitely beats spending days redialing!

I used to work as a programmer for a diff state's unemployment system and this is 100% accurate. The systems are ancient and held together with duct tape and prayers.

0 coins

they did this to me and made me file a new claim then denied me for 5 months before fixing it. Its like they want us to be homeless

First off, don't panic. Take a screenshot of the error message your getting. What exactly does it say when you try to access the claim? Does it give any error code or just tell you to file a new claim?

0 coins

It just says "You currently have no active claim. Please file a new claim to receive benefits." But he literally just certified on Sunday and has been getting benefits for months!

0 coins

Ok that's definitely a system error. DO NOT file a new claim yet. You need to talk to someone first. Filing a new one might complicate things

0 coins

check if his benefit year ended. even if you have days left, once your year is up you gotta file a new claim. its super confusing but thats how it works for some reason 🤦‍♀️

We checked and his benefit year isn't supposed to end until March so that's not it 😞

This is a known glitch in the NY unemployment system. You need to: 1) Take screenshots of everything 2) Try to find any previous documents/emails that prove the claim existed 3) Call the appeals department directly (not the main line) 4) File a complaint with your state representative DO NOT file a new claim until you talk to someone. If you file a new claim while there's still an active one in their system (even if you can't see it), it will trigger fraud prevention algorithms and freeze everything for months. I went through this exact situation and finally got it fixed after contacting my assembly person. But the fastest way is definitely to get on the phone with someone who can see what happened on their end. If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try claimyr.com - it's worth every penny when you're dealing with a time-sensitive benefits issue. They got me connected to a rep who fixed my "disappeared" claim in one call.

This 100%. Filing a new claim will make everything worse. My cousin did that and ended up waiting 5 months to get paid.

whats this claimyr thing? how does it work?

0 coins

It's a service that calls unemployment for you and stays on hold, then calls you when they get a human on the line. Saves hours/days of redialing and holding. claimyr.com

Im going thru something similar right now. Try calling the moment they open, like literally be calling at 7:59am. Sometimes you can get through before the lines get jammed.

0 coins

did y'all get a notice in the mail about his claim ending? sometimes they send letters but don't update the online system for weeks

0 coins

Nope, no letter or email or anything. Just vanished without warning

0 coins

Call your state assembly person ASAP!!! They have special contacts at unemployment and can escalate. Saved my butt when my claim got stuck for months.

0 coins

This deserves more attention ⬆️ My rep fixed my claim after I wasted weeks trying to do it myself

0 coins

Check if you got an email about identity verification. they sometimes freeze claims if they need additional documents. the email might be in your spam folder

0 coins

Good idea but we checked all folders and nothing 😔

0 coins

have u tried logging in from a different device? sometimes the website glitches on certain browsers

0 coins

Yeah tried phone, laptop, different browsers - same message everywhere

0 coins

so frustrating. ny unemployment is a dumpster fire on a good day. hang in there 😞

0 coins

there's a backdoor number that sometimes works to get to a real person faster: [redacted for privacy] - press 1, then 3, then 2, then wait without pressing anything else

0 coins

they changed this recently, it doesn't work anymore 😡

0 coins

omg this EXACT thing happened to me!! i was able to fix it by going to the office in person. bring all the paperwork you have and be prepared to wait ALL day but at least you'll get it fixed

0 coins

Which office did you go to? I thought they were all closed to the public still

0 coins

the one in Brooklyn - some are open now but limited hours. call ahead to make sure
