Will I still get paid for last week after filing a new claim in ny unemployment?
My previous unemployment claim ended on 10/16. I certified on Sunday for that final week and the system seemed to process it normally. The next day I filed a brand new claim since my benefit year was over. Now when I log in, I can only see my new claim info and there's no trace of my old claim or the final week's payment status. Getting really anxious since I need that money for rent. Has anyone experienced this after filing a new claim? Will I still get the payment for that last week even though the old claim isn't showing up anymore in the system? The timing is terrible since I'm already behind on bills.

Yeah this happened to me in August. Dont worry, youll still get your payment for the last week of your old claim, it just takes a few extra days to process because the system is transitioning you to a new claim. The old claim info temporarily disappears but the payment should come through. Mine took about 4 business days instead of the usual 2.

ā¢Thanks for letting me know! That's a relief. Did you have to do anything special or it just eventually came through?

ā¢Nope, nothing special. It just showed up in my account. The system is weird like that, but it does work...eventually š

ā¢Dang that sucks. Maybe OP should call just to make sure then. The system is so inconsistent š

After beating my head against the wall trying to get thru to ny unemployment, I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback with an actual agent. Talking to an agent got my payments flowing again almost immediately after being stuck for weeks. It was the only way I could finally talk to someone who could actually see what was happening with my claim. Check out their explainer video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

ā¢Wait does this actually work? Sounds too good to be true after spending literally HOURS on hold š

ā¢Yeah it actually does! I was super skeptical too but I was desperate. They called and stayed on hold for me, then connected me with an agent. Best decision I made after trying to get through for 2 weeks straight.

ā¢hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? ny unemployment is literally impossible to reach

ā¢They don't do anything except the hold part for you. When an agent picks up, they call your phone and connect you. Saved me hours of hold music torture and I finally got my issue fixed.

ā¢another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol

ā¢I get the skepticism but this literally just saves you from being on hold. It's not fixing the unemployment system, just helping you actually reach a human who can help.

The same exact thing happened to me last month after my claim ended on 9/28. I panicked too when my old claim vanished after filing the new one. The money for my last week actually showed up in my account about 5 days later even though the website never showed it as being processed. Their system is SO BROKEN.

YOU NEED TO CALL THEM!! This happened to me and I waited thinking it would resolve itself. It never did and I lost that last payment. Their system treats the new claim like it erases the old one sometimes. Don't listen to ppl saying it'll automatically work out - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. You need to talk to a rep ASAP!

ā¢Oh no, that's what I was afraid of. How long did you wait before calling them? It's only been 3 days for me.

ā¢I waited about a week. Call now, don't wait!! The longer you wait the harder it gets to fix these issues. They'll tell you some bs about processing time but DONT believe it.

ā¢THIS!!! I lost 2 weeks of payments because I waited too long. The system is rigged to hope you just give up.

OK so here's what's actually happening with your claim (I work in HR and deal with this all the time): When you file a new claim, the NY unemployment system temporarily puts your old claim in limbo while it processes the new one. During this transition period, the old claim disappears from view but is still in their backend system. Most of the time, the final payment from your old claim will still process, but there are several factors that can affect this: ⢠If your new claim gets flagged for review, it can delay ALL payments including your final one from the old claim ⢠Sometimes the system mistakenly thinks you're double-dipping and holds the payment ⢠In rare cases, the transition causes the final payment to get lost in the system What you should do: 1. Wait 5-7 business days to see if the payment appears in your bank account 2. If not, you NEED to speak with an agent - this isn't something that can be fixed by email or messaging 3. When calling, specifically mention it's about a "final week payment on an expired claim after filing new claim" Getting through to an agent is nearly impossible these days - I've had clients spend 4+ hours on hold. Many have had success using claimyr.com to get callbacks instead of waiting on hold themselves. Whatever method you use, just make sure you actually speak to someone if that payment doesn't appear in a week. Good luck!

ā¢Thank you SO much for this detailed explanation. This makes sense of what's happening. I'll give it a week and then try calling if I don't see the deposit.

call call call call call. Emailing them is useless. I had to call like 60 times b4 i got thru last time this happened. The entire ny unemployment system is designed to make u give up.

Happened to me in July. The money showed up in my acct but the website never updated to show it was paid. Their system is held together with duct tape and prayers š

Screenshots of everything!!! Document EVERYTHING. I had same issue and they tried to claim I never certified for my last week. Thank god I had screenshots of the confirmation page or I would've lost $582.

My cousin works at a NY unemployment call center. She says this happens all the time and they're trained to look for the orphaned final week payment when people call about this. Usually gets resolved but you HAVE to call. It won't fix itself in most cases.

ā¢does your cousin have any tips for getting through? I've been trying for daaaaays š

ā¢She says call right when they open, like literally be dialing at 7:59am. And keep trying even if it says high call volume. Some ppl get thru after 5-6 tries.

ā¢I tried that method for two weeks straight, never got through. Finally used claimyr.com and got a callback in about 2 hours.

I filed a new claim back in August after my old one expired and had the exact same panic moment when I couldn't see my old claim anymore. Called them (took forever to get through) and they said it was a display issue with the website, not a payment issue. Got my money like normal, just couldn't see the claim history online for about 2 weeks.

ā¢That's reassuring to hear. Hoping mine works out the same way. This system is so nerve-wracking!

Just adding another voice to the "you need to call" crowd. I waited 3 weeks thinking it would resolve itself and ended up having to get my state rep involved to get my final payment. The unemployment system is not set up to handle this transition smoothly AT ALL.

Check ur bank account, not the website. My last payment showed up in my bank even though the website showed nothing. The online system is trash but the payment system sometimes works correctly even when the website doesn't show it.

Listen nobody here knows for sure what will happen with YOUR specific claim. Some people get paid automatically, others don't. Instead of stressing and wondering, just call and confirm. I used Claimyr last time because I couldn't waste hours on hold with a toddler running around. Whatever method you use, just TALK TO A HUMAN at unemployment.

This is why I HATE the ny unemployment system with a burning passion. They make everything so unnecessarily complicated and never properly explain transition periods between claims. Then we're all left wondering what's happening while bills pile up. It's like they designed it to be as stressful as possible.

ā¢100000% this. They make it so painful that people just give up. Total bs.

Actually different take here - DON'T call yet. Give it 5 business days. The system automatically fixes most of these issues and calling too early just adds to their backlog. I process unemployment claims for a staffing agency and see this all the time. Most fix automatically within a week. THEN call if it doesn't resolve.

ā¢Terrible advice. Waiting cost me a payment. The early bird gets the worm with unemployment issues.

ā¢Different experiences I guess. In the hundreds of claims I've processed, calling too early often causes more confusion. š¤·āāļø

i had this EXACT problem back in February. the online chat agent told me that theres a known glitch with the system when filing a new claim that sometimes makes the final payment from the old claim get stuck. they had to manually release mine. def get in touch with them.

Honestly? This is why I hate technology sometimes. The old system with paper unemployment checks never had these weird glitches. Now everything is "online" and "efficient" but half the time the systems don't work right. š

The lack of transparency in the ny unemployment system is absolutely criminal. We're talking about people's livelihoods here, and they can't even provide clear information about what happens during claim transitions. Hope you get your money OP, and definitely update us on what happens!
