Ya your benefits are done. I was in the same situation and finally got through to them after using claimyr.com - agent told me I needed to file a whole new claim since mine was exhausted. Getting through to a human was literally the only way I got a straight answer.
I was in the exact same situation a few months ago - zero effective days is definitely confusing! It means you've exhausted all your benefits for this claim period. Since you worked that temp job last fall after your original claim started in February 2021, you should definitely qualify for a new claim. Don't waste time trying to call - I literally spent 2 weeks trying to get through and it was torture. I ended up using Claimyr and got connected to an agent within a couple hours. The rep walked me through filing a new claim and explained that my temporary work made me eligible. My new weekly benefit amount was actually higher because of the recent wages! The key thing is that you need wages from after your original claim start date, which it sounds like you have. File online at labor.ny.gov under "File New Claim" - but honestly talking to an actual person first will save you headaches if there are any complications with your case.
Fun fact: NY is one of the only states that uses the "effective days" system instead of weeks. Most other states just pay you for whole weeks. Makes things confusing AF when your claim is ending.
Just went through this exact situation 2 months ago! You'll get paid for those 6 days at your normal daily rate. So if your weekly benefit is $400, each effective day is worth $100 ($400 ÷ 4 days). For your 6 remaining days, you'll get $600 total - probably split as $400 for the first 4 days, then $200 for the final 2 days. Make sure to keep certifying each week until all your days are used up. Also, since you worked for 3 months last summer, definitely apply for a new claim after your benefit year ends in May - you might qualify for another round of benefits if you earned enough during that time. Good luck with the job search!
This is super helpful! I was worried they might reduce the rate or something since it's the end of my claim. Really appreciate the detailed breakdown of how the daily rate works. Definitely going to apply for a new claim after my BYE - fingers crossed that summer work qualifies me for another round. Thanks for the encouragement on the job search too!
Just keep calling. I finally got through yesterday after 47 attempts over 3 days. The agent said they're seeing a lot of backdate requests right now so there might be delays in processing even if you qualify.
I successfully backdated my claim last month after being laid off in November but not filing until mid-December. The key thing that helped me was having documentation showing I was actively job searching during the gap - I saved screenshots of job applications, emails from potential employers, and kept a log of networking calls I made. When I finally got through to speak with someone (took about 8 days of calling), they were able to approve the backdate because I could prove I was genuinely looking for work and wasn't just ignoring my unemployment situation. Make sure you have your termination paperwork ready and any evidence that shows you were trying to find employment during those 5 weeks.
Friendly reminder that its illegal for them to withhold your benefits once approved. Document EVERYTHING. Dates you called, who you spoke with, what they said. If you end up needing to file a complaint or get legal help, this documentation will be crucial.
Man, reading all these stories makes me realize how widespread this issue is! I'm dealing with something similar - approved for benefits in October but still waiting for my KeyBank card. The most frustrating part is when you log into the system and it shows you have money sitting there that you just can't access. I've tried calling probably 50+ times and either get disconnected or sit on hold for hours with no answer. Seeing all the different solutions people have tried gives me some hope though. Definitely going to try the direct deposit route and contacting my state rep. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least we know we're not alone in this mess!

The system is so broken honestly. I worked 8 months and they still made me jump through hoops for weeks during adjudication. But yeah you should qualify with multiple jobs, just be prepared for delays and bureaucratic nonsense.

•Ugh that's what I'm worried about. How long did your adjudication take? I need benefits soon or I'm going to be in serious trouble with bills.

•Mine took about 3 weeks but I've heard it can vary a lot depending on your situation. The key is to respond to any requests for information immediately and keep checking your online account. Also make sure you keep certifying for benefits even during adjudication - they'll backpay you once it's approved. Hang in there!
