NY unemployment claim suddenly disappeared with 24 days remaining - need urgent help

Hi everyone, I'm freaking out a bit here. My partner's NY unemployment claim just vanished from the system today. He had 24 days left on his benefit year and was able to certify normally this past Sunday. But when he logged in today, it's gone completely! The system is telling him he needs to file a new claim. This makes no sense - nothing has changed in his situation. Has anyone experienced something similar? We're worried about losing those remaining weeks he's entitled to. Is there a specific department or person we can contact about this? The regular helpline is impossible to get through.

This actually happens sometimes when there's a system update or glitch. First thing - don't panic and don't file a new claim yet! Filing a new claim when you still have an active benefit year can cause all kinds of problems. Try logging out completely, clearing your browser cache, and logging back in. Sometimes that fixes display issues in the system.

Thanks for the quick response. We tried logging out and back in a few times, even used different browsers and devices. Still showing the same thing. It's like his entire claim history just disappeared overnight. So frustrating!

Same thing happened to me too but it took 3 days to come back. NYSDOL systems are ALWAYS having issues. Can't believe we pay taxes for this garbage service!!!

This sounds like what happened during the quarterly system maintenance they did last month. If your partner's benefit year was close to ending (which 24 days remaining would indicate), sometimes the system incorrectly flags accounts for closure. You need to speak with a Tier 2 claims specialist who can see the backend of your account. They have access to restore claims that incorrectly disappear during system updates. Regular call center staff can't help with this specific issue. Few important points: 1. Do NOT file a new claim as that will complicate things further 2. Take screenshots of any error messages you're seeing 3. Document the date your partner last certified successfully 4. Have your partner's NY.gov ID, PIN, and last 4 of SSN ready

Thank you for this detailed explanation! So our next step is getting through to a Tier 2 specialist. Any advice on how to reach one? When we call the main number we just get stuck in the automated system.

I went through this exact nightmare scenario back in February. My claim vanished with about a month left on it. I spent 4 days calling non-stop and couldn't get past the automated system. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual agent. They have this service that gets you a callback from NYSDOL usually within an hour or so. Saved me so much frustration - they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE When I finally got through, I had to ask specifically for a Tier 2 specialist like the previous commenter mentioned. The first agent tried to tell me to file a new claim, but I insisted on speaking to someone who could look deeper into the system. The Tier 2 person found my claim was still in the system but had been flagged incorrectly as expired. They restored access the same day.

does this claimyr thing actually work? seems sketchy that you have to pay to talk to unemployment when its literally a govt service we already pay for with taxes

I was skeptical too but it worked for me when I was desperate. After trying for days on my own, I got through in under an hour. Just sharing what worked in my situation since this sounds identical to what I dealt with.

Just want to add some info based on my experience working with NYSDOL claims (former employee). When claims "disappear" but show an option to file a new claim, it's almost always one of three things: 1. System glitch during maintenance (most common) 2. An automatic flag on the account due to potential identity verification issues 3. A quarterly review flag that incorrectly categorized the claim as completed In all three cases, you need to speak with someone who has administrative access to the claims database. Regular call center staff can see basic info but can't restore "disappeared" claims. If your partner received any correspondence recently about identity verification or quarterly review, that might provide a clue about what triggered this. Also check if any notification was sent to your partner's message inbox in the NY.gov account (many people miss these).

This is incredibly helpful! We checked his message inbox and there's nothing there about verification or reviews. His last payment was processed normally after Sunday's certification. The only thing that happened was his reporting day changed from Sunday to Monday last week, but he still certified on Sunday.

Update: We finally got through to someone at NYSDOL! We used the Claimyr service that someone mentioned above, and it actually worked - got a callback within about 45 minutes. The first agent couldn't help but transferred us to a Tier 2 specialist. They confirmed it was a system error during their quarterly data processing. Apparently, because my partner's benefit year was ending in less than 30 days, the system incorrectly flagged it for early closure. The specialist restored access to the claim and all the information is back in the system now. She said he'll be able to certify normally next week and will still get all 24 days he's entitled to. Thank you everyone for your help and advice - especially about not filing a new claim, which would have made things worse!

Glad to hear you got it resolved! This is becoming more common as they update their systems for 2025. For anyone else reading this with a similar issue - always insist on speaking with a Tier 2 specialist if your claim mysteriously disappears, especially when you're near the end of your benefit year.

That's great your got it fixed but it's RIDICULOUS we have to jump through all these hoops just to get what we're entitled to!!! The system is designed to make people give up 😡
