NY unemployment claim disappeared after opening with DOL rep - can't certify
I'm freaking out right now! I opened a new NY unemployment claim on Friday with a DOL representative over the phone. She specifically told me I was all set and could certify for benefits. But when I tried to certify today, the system says I don't have any claim on file?! π₯Ί Has this happened to anyone else? Did my claim just vanish from the system? I really need these benefits and don't know if I should file another claim or what. The rep seemed so confident everything was processed correctly...

This happens sometimes. The system takes 2-3 business days to fully process new claims even after a rep enters them. Since you filed on Friday, try again tomorrow morning. The weekend doesn't count as business days. If it still doesn't show up by Wednesday, then you should call them back.

β’omg thank you so much for explaining! nobody told me about the 2-3 day processing time, the rep just said I was good to go. I'll try again tomorrow morning π

the same thing hapened to me last month!! i waited 4 days and then my claim magically appeared but then it asked me to verify identity again. so frustrating!!! the DOL system is a complete mess in 2025, they need to upgrade their computers

β’It's so annoying they don't warn us about these delays! Did you have to do anything special for the identity verification? I already uploaded my license when I applied.

Don't wait too long. If it doesn't show up by tomorrow afternoon, you need to call them ASAP. I waited a week once thinking it would resolve itself and then had to start the whole process over again. Lost benefits for those weeks.

β’That's terrible! I definitely don't want to lose any weeks. I'll give it until tomorrow afternoon like you suggested and then call if nothing changes. Thanks for the warning!

This is a common issue with newly established claims. The NY unemployment system has a few technical quirks in 2025, particularly with the synchronization between what the representatives input and what appears in your online portal. Here's what you should do: 1. Wait until Tuesday morning to check again (as others mentioned, it takes 2-3 business days) 2. Take screenshots of the error message you're seeing 3. If the claim still doesn't appear, try logging out completely, clearing browser cookies/cache, and logging back in 4. If still not visible by Tuesday afternoon, you'll need to call NYSDOL back When you call, request that they check the 'claim initialization status' specifically. Sometimes claims get stuck in a pending verification stage that only the representatives can see from their end.

β’Thank you for the detailed advice! I'll definitely take screenshots and try the clear cache trick if it's still not showing up tomorrow. The 'claim initialization status' tip is really helpful too - I'll specifically ask about that if I need to call back.

I swear the NY unemployment system is DESIGNED to be frustrating. They tell you one thing, the system does another. I had FIVE different claims disappear last year before one finally stuck. And every time I called, I spent HOURS on hold only to be disconnected or told something different by each rep. The system is BROKEN and nobody wants to fix it. Good luck getting through to anyone who can actually help!

β’Five claims?! That's insane... I hope mine doesn't take that many attempts. Did you ever figure out why they kept disappearing?

β’Nope! Every rep had a different excuse. One blamed my browser (I tried 3 different ones), another said it was because I had an old claim from 2022 (I didn't), and one literally told me "sometimes the system just does that" π The only thing that worked was being SUPER persistent and calling EVERY DAY until someone fixed it.

wait this just made me check my claim and mine disappeared too!!! i certified last week no problem but now it says no claim on file... is there some kinda system issue happening???

β’There might be a system-wide issue. Try again in a few hours - sometimes they do maintenance that affects the visibility of claims temporarily.

After trying for 3 weeks to get someone on the phone about a similar issue (my claim showed but wouldn't let me certify), I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual DOL representative in under 30 minutes. They have this system that holds your place in the phone queue so you don't have to sit there listening to that horrible hold music for hours. Saved me so much frustration. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

β’Thank you for suggesting this! If I do need to call tomorrow, I'll definitely look into it. Did they actually solve your problem once you got through?

β’Yes, they fixed it right away! Turns out there was a flag on my account that only a rep could remove. The best part was not having to redial 50 times or sit on hold for 4 hours like I did the week before.

β’I've used this too. Worth every penny after I wasted TWO ENTIRE DAYS trying to get through. The regular phone system is a complete joke.

My neighbor had this happen and she just kept trying every few hours for two days and eventually it showed up. Something about the system refreshing at weird times.

β’I'll try that approach too! Maybe I'll check a few times throughout the day tomorrow instead of just once in the morning.

Any update? Did your claim appear in the system yet?

β’Yes! You were right - I checked this morning and my claim is now showing in the system. I was able to certify without any problems. Thanks everyone for the help and keeping me from panicking too much!

β’Great to hear! For future reference (and for others reading this thread), this is why it's always best to file claims early in the week when possible. Filing on Friday often means dealing with the weekend processing delay, which can cause unnecessary stress.

β’That's really good advice. I'll remember that for the future, though hopefully I won't need to file again anytime soon!
