PA UC weekly certification glitch says I reported job separation when I didn't - forcing me to open additional claim?

I'm seriously confused and kinda panicking right now! I just tried to do my normal weekly certification for PA unemployment like I always do, and out of nowhere the system is claiming that I 'reported a separation from my employer' during my last certification. This is 100% NOT TRUE! Nothing has changed with my employment situation at all. My claim was already approved weeks ago and I even got my payment deposited to my Money Network card last week with no issues. Now suddenly the system is telling me I need to open an ADDITIONAL claim?? Has anyone else had this weird glitch happen? What should I do - should I just go ahead and file this additional claim even though nothing changed? I'm worried if I do that it will mess up my current claim that's working fine. But I also need this week's money for rent... help!!

that happened to me last month, the system totally glitched. dont file a new claim! it will mess everything up and put u in pending status for weeks. u need to call UC office and tell them its a system error.

Thanks for the warning!! Did you manage to get through to them by phone? I've been calling for 2 hours and just getting busy signals.

This is a known issue in the PA UC system that started happening after their January 2025 software update. What's happening is that if you answer even slightly differently on any question during your weekly certification (like reporting different job search activities), the system sometimes incorrectly flags it as a separation report. You need to speak with a UC representative to have them manually override this in their system. Do NOT file a new claim as that will create a duplicate in the system and potentially freeze both claims while they investigate. When you speak with them, specifically mention "false separation error code" and they'll know exactly what you're talking about. They can fix it on their end so you can properly file your weekly certification.

This is really helpful info! Now I at least know what's happening. But I've been calling the UC number all morning and can't get through - just busy signals or it hangs up. Is there another way to contact them besides calling? I already sent a message through my dashboard but who knows when they'll respond...

I double-checked my certification answers from last week and I'm 100% sure I didn't say anything changed with my employment. That's why I'm so confused! But thanks, seems like calling is definitely what I need to do.

I went through exactly this in February! It's definitely a system glitch that's been affecting quite a few claimants. Here's what worked for me: try using Claimyr to get through to an actual PA UC representative on the phone. I was calling for days with no luck, then used their service at claimyr.com and got connected to a UC agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The UC rep fixed the false separation flag on my account immediately and I was able to file my weekly claim that same day. The money hit my account on the normal schedule too.

It's legitimate - I was skeptical too but it's just a call connect service. They basically keep dialing the UC number for you until they get through, then connect you. Saved me days of frustration.

Thank you! I might try this because I'm getting nowhere with calling. Did they have to transfer you to a different department or was the first rep able to fix the issue?

The first rep I spoke with knew exactly what the problem was. Just make sure to clearly explain that you did NOT report any change in employment status and that the system is incorrectly saying you did. They'll check your previous certification answers and remove the flag.

THE WHOLE PA UC SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!! I've had FIVE different problems with my claim this year alone. Every time they update their stupid software something else breaks. I hate having to call them every other week just to get my money that I'M ENTITLED TO. So sick of this garbage system!!!!!

While your trying to reach them, make sure your keeping good records. Screenshot that error message if you can, and document all your attempts to contact them with dates and times. If theres any delay in payment, having this documentation will help if you need to request backpay for the weeks affected by their system error.

That's smart thinking! Just took screenshots of everything including the error message. I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow morning if I still can't get through. Will update once I get this fixed!

UPDATE: I finally got through to a PA UC rep! They confirmed it was indeed a system glitch - apparently their system can sometimes misinterpret certain job search entries as a job separation (makes no sense but whatever). The rep removed the false flag from my account and I was able to file my weekly certification normally right after our call. My payment is now showing as processed! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. This is becoming a common enough issue that they should really fix it in their system, but at least the representatives know how to handle it now.
