NY unemployment ID.me verification status - how to confirm it worked?

I just went through the ID.me verification process for my NY unemployment claim, but I'm not sure if it actually worked. The website kicked me back to the unemployment portal after I finished, but there's no confirmation message or status update anywhere. How do you know if you got successfully verified through ID.me? Is there supposed to be some kind of email or notification in your account? It's been 2 days and I'm worried my claim is just sitting there not being processed.

You should've received a confirmation email from ID.me once your verification was complete. Also, when you log back into your NY unemployment account, there should be a message in your dashboard saying your identity has been verified. If you don't see either of those things after 48 hours, your verification might not have gone through properly.

Thanks! I didn't get any email from them. I'm checking my spam folder now... nothing there either. When I log in to my unemployment account, I don't see anything different on my dashboard. Should I try the verification process again or will that mess things up?

I had this exact problem last month! The system is super confusing. Try logging into ID.me directly (not through the unemployment portal) and check your account status there. Thats how I figured out mine actually did go through even tho the NYSDOL site never updated.

Oh that's a good idea, I'll try logging in directly to ID.me. I didn't even realize you could do that separately!

Successful ID.me verification typically shows three indicators: 1. Email confirmation from ID.me 2. Status change in your NY unemployment dashboard (though this can take 2-3 days to update) 3. Your claim processing moves forward to the next step If you completed the entire process including the facial recognition and document upload steps, it likely went through. The system is experiencing high volume right now in 2025, so updates are delayed. I'd wait one more day before taking action.

Thanks for the detailed info. I did complete all the steps including facial recognition and uploading my license. I'll give it one more day, but I'm getting nervous because my weekly certification is due soon and I need this fixed.

U didn't get verified. Same thing happened to me in January. the system glitched and I had to do it over. But when I tried again it kept saying I already had an account but wouldn't verify me! Total nightmare. Had to call them 50 times!!!

Oh no, that sounds terrible! Did you finally get it resolved? I'm worried the same thing is happening to me.

The NY unemployment ID.me verification system has been really inconsistent lately. What worked for me was checking my claim status in the "Claims Status" section rather than the dashboard. Sometimes the main dashboard doesn't update but your claim status will show "Identity Verified" if it went through. If you don't see that after 3 full business days, you'll need to contact NYSDOL directly. The problem is getting through to an actual agent - I spent two weeks trying before I found Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to a live agent in about 20 minutes when I was dealing with my verification issue. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE showing how it works. Totally worth it when you're stuck in verification limbo.

That Claimyr thing actually works??? I thought it was a scam lol

It's definitely not a scam - it's just a call-back system that helps you get through the phone maze. Saved me hours of frustration when I was dealing with my ID.me verification issues.

I just checked my claim status and it still shows "pending identity verification." I guess that means it didn't go through properly. I'll try calling tomorrow, and if I can't get through I might try that Claimyr service. At this point I just need to talk to someone who can tell me what's going on.

There's actually another way to check if your ID.me verification went through. Log into your NY.gov account, go to "My Online Services," then select "Unemployment Insurance," and check the "Documents" section. Sometimes a verification confirmation gets posted there even when the dashboard doesn't update. Also, make sure you completed ALL steps of the ID.me process. Many people think they've finished, but the final step requires you to explicitly authorize ID.me to share your verification with NYSDOL. If you missed that authorization step, the verification won't transfer to your unemployment claim.

I just checked the Documents section and there's nothing there about ID.me. I think I did complete the authorization step - I remember seeing something about sharing my info with NYSDOL and clicking yes. This is so frustrating!

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN FEBRUARY!!! The ID.me system is BROKEN and nobody at unemployment will admit it!! I ended up having to create a WHOLE NEW unemployment account because my identity verification got stuck in limbo and corrupted my original account. I lost 3 weeks of benefits dealing with this garbage system. Call them RIGHT AWAY don't wait!!!!

That's really concerning. Did you have to start your claim all over again? I really hope I don't lose any weeks of benefits over this. I'll definitely try calling tomorrow.

Before creating a new account (which can cause more problems), try this troubleshooting approach: 1. Clear your browser cache and cookies completely 2. Use a different browser than you used originally 3. Log in to NY.gov (not through ID.me) 4. Go to your unemployment dashboard 5. Look for the ID verification link and click it 6. If it redirects you to ID.me again, your verification didn't complete 7. If it says verification is pending or complete, then it did register Based on your description, it sounds like the authorization to share information with NYSDOL may not have processed correctly. This happens fairly often in the system.

Thanks for these steps! I just tried them and when I click the ID verification link, it DOES redirect me to ID.me again. So I guess that confirms my verification didn't go through. I'll try the process once more before calling.

btw if ur ID.me verification fails twice in a row DONT do it a 3rd time right away! The system flags u for fraud after multiple attempts and then ur locked out for 30 days. Happened to my roommate last month!

Omg thanks for the warning! I'll be really careful about how I approach this. Maybe I should just try calling first before attempting verification again.

Just to follow up - were you able to get your ID.me verification sorted out? I'm curious what solution worked for you since others might have the same issue.

Yes! I finally got it resolved yesterday. I couldn't get through on the phone after trying for hours, so I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Got connected to an agent in about 30 minutes, and they confirmed my ID.me verification had gotten stuck in their system. The agent manually pushed it through and now my dashboard shows I'm verified! Such a relief.

That's awesome that you got it resolved! I'm dealing with the same issue right now - my ID.me verification seems to be stuck too. How much did the Claimyr service cost? I'm hesitant to pay for something like that but if it actually works and saves me weeks of headache, it might be worth it.

I think it was around $20 or something like that - honestly worth every penny when you consider how much time I would have wasted trying to get through on my own. Plus I was starting to panic about missing my weekly certification deadlines. The agent was really helpful and knew exactly what to do to fix the stuck verification. Way better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected!

@Beatrice Marshall I paid $19 for Claimyr and it was totally worth it! I was skeptical at first too, but after spending literally days trying to get through the regular phone lines with no luck, it was such a relief to actually talk to someone who could help. The agent knew immediately what the problem was and fixed it on the spot. When you re'dealing with stuck benefits payments, $19 is nothing compared to the stress and lost time of trying to navigate the system alone.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Been 4 days since I completed the ID.me verification and still no confirmation email or status update in my unemployment account. The whole process is so unclear - you'd think they'd have better communication about something this important. Thanks for posting this question because the responses here have been really helpful. I'm going to try checking the Claims Status section like someone mentioned, and if that doesn't show anything I might have to bite the bullet and use one of those callback services to actually get through to a human.

I'm in the same boat! Just went through this whole thread and it's really reassuring to know I'm not the only one dealing with this frustrating system. The lack of clear communication from NYSDOL about verification status is ridiculous. I'm going to try the Claims Status section check first thing tomorrow morning, and if that doesn't show "Identity Verified" I'll probably end up using Claimyr too. At this point the $19 seems like a small price to pay to avoid weeks of phone tag with an impossible-to-reach call center. Keep us posted on how it goes for you!

@Diego Fernández I just went through this nightmare myself! The verification status confusion is absolutely maddening. Here s'what I learned from my experience: the Claims Status section is definitely the most reliable place to check - it ll'show Identity "Verified if" it actually went through, even when the main dashboard doesn t'update. Also, if you end up needing to call, try early morning right (at 8 AM or) late afternoon - seems like there are slightly shorter wait times then. The Claimyr thing really does work though - I was skeptical but it saved me so much frustration when I finally broke down and used it. Good luck!

@Diego Fernández I just went through this exact same headache last week! The ID.me verification system is so poorly integrated with NYSDOL it s'ridiculous. What finally worked for me was logging directly into my ID.me account not (through the unemployment portal and) checking if my verification was actually complete there first. If it shows as verified on ID.me but not reflecting in your unemployment account, then it s'definitely a system communication issue on NYSDOL s'end. I ended up having to call and get an agent to manually refresh my account status. The whole process shouldn t'be this complicated for something so critical to people s'benefits!
