NY unemployment ID.me verification hell - just trying to update bank info
Been battling with the ID.me verification system for days now. Last week I spent almost 4 hours trying to submit my verification documents because the system kept rejecting my driver's license for no apparent reason. Finally got it to accept everything and it showed as submitted. Then today I get a message saying I need to complete the verification process again even though it was already submitted! All I'm trying to do is change my banking information on my ny unemployment account. Now I've had to resubmit all my ID.me verification documents again. The whole process is ridiculous when all I want to do is update where my payments go. Anyone else dealing with this ID.me nightmare?

Same exact thing happened to me last month. The system is completely broken. I had to submit my documents THREE times before it finally accepted them. Even had to do a video call with some agent who barely knew what they were doing. Such a waste of time.

•Did you eventually get it to work? I'm worried I'll be stuck in this loop forever just trying to update my bank info

•yeah after the 3rd try it finally went through. took about 10 days total tho. the trick was using a different browser (tried Chrome first, then it worked on Firefox

•browser shouldnt matter, its probably just random when it decides to work lol. whole system is held together with duct tape 🤣

After weeks of trying to call ny unemployment with zero luck, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it got me connected to an actual agent in less than an hour. Best thing is they called ME when an agent was ready. Talking to that agent fixed all my ID.me issues and got my bank info updated in one call. It was honestly the only way I could talk to a real person after trying for weeks. Check out this video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% worked for me. I was super skeptical at first, but it literally saved me days of constantly calling and being on hold. talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast

•I know right? I couldn't believe it either. But yep, they called me when they got an agent on the line. Been telling everyone about it cause it saved me so much stress. claimyr.com

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•The catch is you can finally talk to someone lol. It's just a service that waits on hold for you and calls when they get through. After 3 weeks of trying myself, it was the best money I've spent this year

ID.me is the absolute WORST. It rejected my perfectly good passport photo 4 times before accepting the exact same image on the 5th try. And yes, ive had the same "it was submitted but now we need you to submit again" message too. The whole system is trash.

When I was updating my account info they made me verify through ID.me TWICE and then froze my account for "suspicious activity" for TWO WEEKS. All because I moved and needed to update my address and bank. The system is designed to make us give up I swear.

•Oh no, I hope they don't freeze my account! Did you have to call to get it unfrozen or did it just start working again?

•had to call MULTIPLE times. first agent was useless, second one actually knew what they wer doing. System just randomly started working again after 2 weeks tho, no explanation

So here's what actually worked for me with ID.me on ny unemployment: First, clear your browser cache completely and use Chrome (not Safari or Firefox) Second, make sure your drivers license photo is taken in BRIGHT natural light on a plain background Third, if it fails twice, don't keep trying the automated system - request a video call verification instead (there's a small link at the bottom) Fourth, be prepared to wait 1-3 hours for the video call, but once you do it, verification is instant Fifth, if you're still having issues after all that, you NEED to talk to an actual unemployment agent. The normal phone lines are impossible, but I used claimyr.com to get a callback when an agent was available. Worth every penny because the agent was able to manually override the ID.me requirement in my case. Hope this helps someone because I know how frustrating this system is!

•This is super helpful, thanks for laying it out step by step! Gonna try the video call option tomorrow.

•Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! I tried doing the video call but was waiting forever. Might try this Claimyr thing if it happens again

•FYI the Chrome thing is real - I had the exact same experience. Safari kept glitching but Chrome worked first try.

been there done that got the t-shirt...then they lost the t-shirt and asked me to buy another one 😂 seriously tho, ID.me is a nightmare. if ur just tryna update bank info you gotta jump through 500 hoops. system is designed by clowns for clowns.

Remember when changing your bank info was a simple process? Pepperidge Farm remembers. But seriously, I had to verify my identity THREE separate times just to update my address last month. NY unemployment system acting like I'm trying to hack the pentagon or something.

Have you tried calling the ID.me support number? When this happened to me they said it was a "known issue" and that I should wait 48 hours and try again. Of course that didn't work, but then I found out there's a whole separate number to call for ID.me issues specifically with unemployment.

Ali Anderson
•Do you have that number? I've been calling the main unemployment line with no luck

•i tried to find it but cant...the number I called was somethng like 833-something but that was back in April. Maybe someone else here has it?

Unpopular opinion but...ID.me actually worked smoothly for me. I think the trick is doing it really early in the morning (like 5-6am) when their systems aren't being hammered. I had to update my bank info too and while it did ask for verification, it went through first try.

•you must be the chosen one 🙏 or u got extremely lucky

•maybe I just got lucky! but seriously try it super early in the morning if u can

The whole system is designed to frustrate people into giving up. They WANT u to quit so they don't have to pay benefits. My ID.me verification was "pending" for 3 weeks and then suddenly said "failed" with no explanation. Had to start all over. Its all by design, wake up ppl!!!

•Take off the tinfoil hat bro lol. It's not a conspiracy, it's just incompetence. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity.

•Nah man look at the data. rejection rates went up right when the budget was tight. its not a coincidence!!

Everyone in this thread needs to DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of every step, confirmation numbers, submission screens, everything. NY unemployment loves to claim you never submitted something even when you have proof you did. If you have to call (which you probably will), having those receipts is the only way to get anywhere.

•That's a really good point. I screenshot the confirmation screen the first time but not the second, should have done both

I feel ur pain!! ID.me is THE WORST. All I can tell u is keep trying and eventually it will go through. Mine took 5 attempts over 3 days but finally worked. Also try using a different device if u can - my laptop kept failing but it worked on my phone.

I'm gonna tell u the secret nobody wants to admit: call your STATE REPRESENTATIVE's office. I was fighting with ID.me for 6 weeks, called my state assembly person, and they fixed it in 48 hours. They have direct lines to people at unemployment who can actually help. The regular customer service is useless.

•can confirm this works, i did this last year when they randomly stopped my payments

What's even more infuriating is that ID.me is a private company making MILLIONS off our tax dollars while providing garbage service. They have a monopoly on these government contracts and no incentive to actually make their product work properly. And we're the ones suffering.

•THIS!!! follow the money, it's always about who's getting paid

•Yep. And their data security is questionable at best. They're collecting all our sensitive docs with minimal oversight.

just went through this last week! the trick is to use a desktop instead of phone, and make sure your camera is super good quality. also when taking pics of ID hold it against a WHITE background (not dark) and make sure theres good lighting. worked for me first try after doing all that.

I literally couldn't change my bank info for THREE MONTHS because of the ID.me nonsense. Finally got through on the phone after using claimyr.com (which btw was a lifesaver) and the agent told me there was a note on my account saying I'd already been verified! The whole time I was stressing and resubmitting docs they already had everything they needed 🤬 The system is beyond broken.

•That's exactly what I'm worried about! I think I'm already verified but they keep asking me to do it again

•if u can get through to an actual agent they can check if ur already verified. that's what finally fixed it for me
