NY unemployment stuck between ID.me and NYSDOL - both blaming each other
I'm seriously about to lose it with this ID.me verification nightmare. Been trying since I opened a new claim in August 2025 and STILL haven't received any of my back unemployment payments. When I call unemployment, they tell me it's ID.me's fault and I need to complete verification with them. So I emailed ID.me support and guess what? They're saying everything is fine on their end and that it's unemployment's system that's the problem! I'm being ping-ponged between these two and meanwhile haven't seen a penny for months. Has anyone else dealt with this ridiculous ID.me verification loop? How did you finally get it resolved?

This exact thing happened to me back in May. The issue is that sometimes the systems don't properly sync up even after you've completed the ID.me verification. Here's what worked for me: 1. Login to ID.me and take screenshots of your completed verification status page 2. Call unemployment again but specifically ask for a tier 2 specialist who handles identity verification issues 3. If they try to transfer you to ID.me again, firmly explain that ID.me shows your verification is complete (have those screenshots ready) 4. Request that they manually check the integration status between the two systems In my case, there was some kind of data handoff problem between the systems. Once I got to a tier 2 specialist, they did something on their end and my payments started processing within 48 hours.

Thanks for the detailed advice! I've been transferred around so many times without getting to anyone who seems to know what they're doing. Did you just keep calling until you got someone helpful? I've literally called 20+ times and still haven't reached anyone who could fix this.

omg this is SO common right now!! my cousin had the same issue last month. id.me is complete garbage honestly. unemployment kept telling him to reverify but id.me said he was already verified. took like 2 months to sort out.

Did your cousin ever figure out what the actual problem was? And how did he finally get it fixed? I'm going on 3 months now with no payments!

This is a technical integration issue between ID.me and NYSDOL that's been affecting many claimants in 2025. The verification data sometimes gets stuck in a pending state in NYSDOL's system even when ID.me shows it as complete. The most efficient solution is to get a NYSDOL representative to manually review and override your identity verification status. However, reaching an agent who has access to do this can be extremely difficult through the regular phone lines. Have you tried using Claimyr? I was stuck in the same situation and used their service to get connected to a NYSDOL agent within 30 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent I reached was able to see that my ID.me verification was actually complete and manually updated my claim status. My backpay was released within 3 business days after that call.

I hadn't heard of Claimyr before. At this point I'll try anything if it means actually talking to someone who can help. I'm guessing they charge for the service? Seems worth it after all the hours I've wasted on hold.

It's ALWAYS like this with these government systems!! They design them POORLY then blame each other when things don't work!! I had to contact my state assemblyman's office when I had this problem last year. They have special contacts at unemployment who can actually FIX THINGS instead of just transferring you around in circles!!! Try that if you still can't get through!!

This is really good advice actually. I work at a community assistance program and we refer people to their state representatives all the time for unemployment issues. They often have dedicated staff who handle these cases and direct lines to NYSDOL offices that regular claimants can't access.

Had similar issue. Try doing id.me verification again using different browser. Chrome worked for me when Edge didn't. Also clear cookies first.

The weird thing is ID.me is showing me as fully verified when I log in. It's almost like the two systems aren't talking to each other properly. I'll try with a different browser though, thanks.

I see this issue quite frequently with clients I help. There are actually two separate verification statuses that sometimes get confused: the initial ID.me verification and then the data-sharing permission between ID.me and NYSDOL. When you completed ID.me, did you specifically authorize them to share your verification data with NYSDOL? Sometimes people complete the verification but miss the final authorization step. When you log into ID.me, check under "Privacy" and then "Connections" to see if NYSDOL is listed as an authorized connection. If it's not showing as connected, that's your issue. If it is showing as connected, then it's definitely a sync problem on NYSDOL's end that requires agent intervention.

Just checked and yes, NYSDOL is listed under my connections! So it really does seem to be their system that's the problem. This is so frustrating.

i had the same issue but for me it was bc i had 2 diff emails somehow. one for id.me and different one on my unemployment account. once i fixed that it worked but took like a month to get my money...

This is another common issue! The email addresses need to match exactly in both systems, as well as your name format (including middle initials, etc.). Even small discrepancies can cause the verification to fail.

After using Claimyr to reach an agent, make sure to specifically request they check the "identity verification override" flag in your account. Many agents don't know this exists or don't think to check it. Also ask them to document in your case notes that ID.me verification is complete but not syncing properly, to help if you need to call again.

Thank you all for the helpful advice! Just wanted to update - I finally got this resolved! I used Claimyr to get through to someone at NYSDOL (took about 15 mins instead of the endless busy signals I was getting before). The agent I spoke with immediately found the problem - there was some kind of flag on my account that was preventing the ID.me verification from being accepted, even though it was complete. She removed the flag, manually verified my identity in their system, and my claim started processing right away. Three days later all my backpay hit my account! Such a relief after months of stress and being given the runaround.
