NY unemployment payments on hold after ID.me verification - DOL says no record
I'm so frustrated with NY unemployment right now. I have 2 payments that they're holding and I don't know what to do anymore. Last Monday I completed the ID.me verification process that DOL asked for through the 'update my personal info' section. Today I FINALLY got through to someone on the phone (after trying for days), and they told me they have NO RECORD of my ID.me verification! How is that even possible? The agent said I'd have to call back AGAIN to have them release the payments once they can see the verification. That probably means another 2 weeks of waiting and calling non-stop. Has anyone else had this problem with ID.me verification not showing up in their system? I don't understand how they can ask me to verify, I do it right away, and then they claim they never received it. This is ridiculous!

I had the exact same issue in January. Did the ID.me verification and then DOL claimed they had no record of it. The problem is that there's a lag between when you complete ID.me and when it shows up in their system. But it shouldn't take more than 2-3 days max, not a week. Something's definitely wrong. When you did the ID.me verification, did you get a confirmation email or completion message? If you did, you should tell them that when you call back.\n\nHonestly, I was getting nowhere with regular calls until I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that gets you through to an unemployment agent without the endless calling and waiting. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. Got me connected in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. The agent I spoke with was able to see my ID.me verification even though the previous agent said they couldn't.

Yes, I got the confirmation email from ID.me saying everything was completed successfully! That's why I'm so confused about why DOL says they don't have it. I told the agent I had confirmation but she just kept saying it's not in their system yet. Did you have to send them your confirmation email or something?

I tried that this morning! Called at exactly 8:00am and still got the 'we're experiencing high call volume' message and got disconnected after 20 minutes 😫

There's actually a known issue with the data transfer between ID.me and NYSDOL's systems right now. I work with unemployment cases professionally, and we've been seeing this problem frequently since the DOL updated their verification system last month. \n\nHere's what you should do:\n\n1. Log back into your ID.me account and check that your verification is actually complete (sometimes people miss the final authorization step)\n\n2. Take screenshots of your completed verification \n\n3. Call DOL again and specifically ask for a Tier 2 specialist who can manually verify your ID.me status\n\n4. If they say they can't do that, request a \

Thank you so much for this detailed information! I didn't know about the system update causing problems. I'll definitely ask for a Tier 2 specialist and the verification override ticket. Do you know if there's a direct number to reach the Tier 2 specialists, or do I have to go through the regular line?

Same thing happened to me! But mine eventually showed up after 9 days, which is ridiculous. The system is completely broken. I think they do this on purpose to delay paying people. Just keep calling and eventually someone will help you.

They don't do it on purpose - the systems just don't communicate well. ID.me is a third-party service that has to send verification data to NYSDOL, and sometimes that transmission fails or gets delayed. It's a technical issue, not a conspiracy to withhold benefits. \n\nBUT you're absolutely right that persistent calling is key. Ask specifically for someone to check the \

When this happened to me in February, I found out that I actually needed to do one more step after completing ID.me verification. There's a final authorization where you have to specifically allow ID.me to share your info with NY DOL. Did you make sure to complete that step? It's easy to miss because the ID.me process seems complete but then there's this additional step.

Yes, I definitely did the final authorization step where it asks you to consent to sharing your information with NYSDOL. I even got the email confirmation afterwards saying

I've been dealing with the NY unemployment system for months now and honestly, everything is a mess since they updated their systems in 2025. The ID.me verification specifically has been a NIGHTMARE for everyone. The rep you talked to probably just didn't know where to look in their system.\n\nYou need to call back and specifically ask for someone who knows how to check the \

Just checking back - were you able to get this resolved? I'm curious if asking for the Tier 2 specialist worked for you.

I'm going through this exact same issue right now! Been waiting 12 days since I completed ID.me verification and DOL keeps saying they don't see it in their system. This is so frustrating because I have the confirmation email and everything. Reading through these comments is actually really helpful - I didn't know about asking for Tier 2 specialists or the "identity verification queue" that @Miguel mentioned. Going to try calling tomorrow and specifically ask for someone who can check that queue. It's ridiculous that we have to become experts in their internal systems just to get our benefits released! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, at least I know I'm not alone in this mess.

•@Hassan, you're definitely not alone in this! I just went through the same nightmare last month. When you call tomorrow, make sure to have your ID.me confirmation email ready and ask specifically for the "identity verification queue" status - that seems to be the magic phrase that gets them to look in the right place. Also, don't let them brush you off if the first agent says they can't see it. I had to call three times before I got someone who actually knew how to check properly. The 12-day wait is ridiculous but unfortunately pretty typical right now. Hang in there and keep pushing - you'll get through this!

This ID.me verification nightmare is exactly why I switched to documenting everything when dealing with NY unemployment. I keep screenshots of every step, save all confirmation emails, and even record the date/time I completed each process. When this happened to me in December, having that documentation made all the difference. The agent was able to use my timestamps to locate my verification in their system. Pro tip: if you haven't already, log back into your ID.me account and take screenshots of your completed verification status page - sometimes the agents can use that info to manually locate your record in their database. It's crazy that we have to do their job for them, but at least it gets results faster than waiting for their systems to sync properly.

•@Giovanni, that's excellent advice about documenting everything! I wish I had thought to take screenshots of my ID.me verification status page when I was going through this. For anyone else dealing with this issue, another thing that helped me was writing down the exact error messages or responses the DOL agents gave me each time I called. When I finally got through to someone who could actually help, I was able to tell them exactly what the previous agents had said, and it helped them understand that this was a system issue rather than me not completing the verification properly. It's frustrating that we have to become our own case managers, but your documentation strategy is spot on!
