Do I still get the extra $300 from NY unemployment after my account was closed?

So I had this weird situation with my NY unemployment. My account got closed (not sure why exactly) but then they said they're sending back-payments for the weeks I claimed before it closed. My question is - for those back-payments, will I still get the extra $300 FPUC supplement for each week, or just the regular unemployment amount? Has anyone dealt with this before? I really need that extra money since I was counting on it for rent.

depends on when ur account was closed. the $300 FPUC is only for weeks ending between jan 3 2025 and sept 5 2025 (as long as congress doesnt extend it again). if your backpay is for weeks in that timeframe then yeah u should get the $300 for each of those weeks

That's good news! My account was closed last week but the back pay is for weeks in February and March 2025. So I should be getting the extra $300 for those weeks?

The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) supplement of $300 is payable for all eligible weeks within the program period, regardless of when those payments are actually processed. If your account was closed but you're receiving back payments for weeks you were eligible, and those weeks fall within the FPUC program period (currently January-September 2025), then yes, you should receive both your regular UI amount plus the $300 supplement for each of those weeks. The key factor is not when the payment is issued, but rather which claim weeks the payment covers. As long as you were eligible for at least $1 of regular unemployment benefits for a week within the program period, you qualify for the full $300 supplement for that same week.

I was in a similar situation last month - my account got locked because of ID verification issues. When they finally sorted it out, they did pay me all back payments INCLUDING the $300 extra for each week. But it took FOREVER to get someone on the phone to fix it... seriously like 200+ calls over 3 weeks. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual agent after trying for weeks on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I got through to a real person, they fixed everything in one call and I had all my payments including the $300 extras within 48 hours.

is that service legit? seems kinda sketch to pay money just to talk to unemployment

Yeah it's legit. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after calling for weeks. They basically just help you skip the phone queue. Saved me a ton of time and frustration.

To answer your question directly: YES, you will still get the $300 FPUC supplement for any eligible weeks that fall within the program dates, even if your account was closed afterward. Two important things to keep in mind: 1. The eligibility date is based on the week you're claiming, not when the payment is processed 2. You must have been eligible for at least $1 of regular UI benefits for that week So if your back-payments are for weeks between January 3, 2025 and September 5, 2025, and you were eligible for regular UI during those weeks, you'll receive both your regular UI and the additional $300 per week. This applies even if your account was subsequently closed.

Thank you! That's really clear. I was definitely eligible for those weeks so it sounds like I should get the full amount including the $300.

THEY ALWAYS SAY you'll get it but don't count on it!!! My account was closed for 3 MONTHS because of so-called "identity verification" and when they finally reopened it they ONLY gave me the base amount NOT the extra $300!!!! I've been fighting with them since JANUARY trying to get the rest. Every time I call they tell me "it's being processed" or "wait 2-3 business days" and NOTHING HAPPENS!!! The whole system is BROKEN!!!

Oh no, that's scary. Did you ever get it resolved? I'm wondering if I should start calling them now to make sure I don't have the same problem.

Still fighting with them!!! My advice - DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take screenshots, record call reference numbers, get agent names. The system is designed to wear you down until you give up!!

my cousin had this happen and he got all the money including the 300 but it took like an extra 2 weeks after the regular payment showed up

One additional note - if your account was closed due to a potential fraud investigation or identity verification issue, there might be additional steps needed before you receive all payments. If you don't see the $300 supplement within 5-7 business days of receiving your regular UI back payments, I would recommend contacting NYSDOL directly to inquire about the status.

Thanks for mentioning that. I'm not sure why the account was closed, but I'll definitely reach out if I don't see the full payment soon.

Update: I just got the regular UI payment today but no sign of the $300 extra yet. Going to give it a few days based on what people are saying here before I start panicking. I'll keep you all posted!

That's very normal. The FPUC payments are often processed separately from regular UI payments, even though they cover the same weeks. If you received your regular UI payment, that's a good sign that the system recognizes you as eligible. The $300 supplements should follow shortly.

Second update: Just wanted to let everyone know that the $300 payments came through today! You were all right - they just process them separately from the regular UI payment. Thanks for all your help!
