Confused about NY unemployment $300 supplemental payments - is this really the last one?
I just checked my NY unemployment payment history and noticed both my regular unemployment benefit was released AND the extra $300 supplement. I thought last week's payment was supposed to be the final $300 supplement, so now I'm totally confused. Is this week's $300 actually the last one? Did they extend it again? Has anyone else received an unexpected $300 payment this week? The DOL website doesn't seem to have updated information about this.

The $300 supplement is supposed to end March 27, 2025. So if you certified this past Sunday for the week ending March 22, you SHOULD get the $300. Next week's certification (for week ending March 29) will be the first one WITHOUT the supplement. At least that's what I understand from the NYSDOL website.

•Thanks! That makes sense. I got confused because I kept hearing people talk about "the last payment" and thought the one I got two weeks ago was the final one. Appreciate the clarification!

Yes, this is likely your last $300 supplement payment. The American Rescue Plan extended supplemental unemployment benefits through March 27, 2025. The system processes payments based on the week ending date of your certification period, not the date you actually certify or receive payment. If your benefit week ended on or before March 27, you're eligible for that supplement. You can verify this on your payment history by looking at the "week ending" date associated with each payment. Any week ending March 27 or earlier should include the supplement, while weeks ending after that date will only show your regular UI amount.

•Thank you for explaining! I just double-checked my payment history and you're right - the week ending date is March 22, so that's why I got the extra $300. This makes much more sense now.

•Also worth noting that sometimes there are delays in processing. I had a situation last month where my regular UI came through but the supplement was delayed by about 3 days. The NYSDOL system isn't always consistent with timing.

ive been getting the 300 fine but now im worried about what happens next... has anyone heard if theyre gonna extend it again??? my rent is 1400 and regular ui barely covers half!! 😰

•Unfortunately, there's no indication they're extending it again. You might want to start looking into rental assistance programs - NY has the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) that could help bridge the gap. Also, make sure you're getting all the benefits you qualify for like SNAP if your income is low enough.

I was SOOOO confused about this too!!! The way they explain this stuff is terrible. I spent TWO DAYS trying to get through to someone at unemployment to explain why I got another $300 when I thought it was over. Kept getting disconnected or waiting forever. Finally I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual agent yesterday. They have this service that gets you past the phone tree and actually connects you to a live person! They showed me a video of how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent confirmed what others here are saying - March 27 is the cutoff date, so any week ending on/before that date gets the supplement. Mystery solved!

•Yeah it actually does! Saved me hours of frustration. I was skeptical at first but it connected me to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending all day trying to get through.

theres always confusin with these dates. the week ending date is what matters not when u certify or get paid. if u worked at all during that week it also effects the 300 amount u might not get the full thing

•That's correct. If you earned income during the benefit week, both your regular UI and the $300 supplement can be reduced proportionally. This is why it's crucial to report all earnings accurately when certifying.

The reason for confusion is that there have been several different programs and extensions over the past few years. The standard Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) supplement is currently $300/week and runs through March 27, 2025. However, there's an important distinction between program eligibility and payment timing. Even after the program officially ends, you may receive payments for weeks that ended during the eligible period. This means you could receive payments into early April for claim weeks that ended on or before March 27. Going forward, you should prepare for only receiving your base NY unemployment benefit amount. If this creates financial hardship, consider: 1. Applying for SNAP benefits for food assistance 2. Checking if you qualify for HEAP for utility assistance 3. Exploring rental assistance programs through NY's OTDA website 4. Contacting local community action agencies for additional support

•Thank you for this thorough explanation! I'll definitely look into those other assistance programs. Do you know if there's a single portal or website where I can check eligibility for all these programs at once?

•The myBenefits.ny.gov site is probably the closest thing to a one-stop portal. You can screen for multiple programs including SNAP, HEAP, and others. For rental assistance specifically, you'll want to look at otda.ny.gov/programs/emergency-rental-assistance/.

does anyone know if we're gettin taxes taken out of the $300 supplement? i always choose to have taxes withheld but my payment amounts seem weird

•Yes, if you opted to have taxes withheld from your regular UI benefits, they should also be withheld from the $300 supplement at a rate of 10% (federal) plus any state withholding you selected. This might explain why the amounts look different than expected.

I had the exact same question last week! I got an "extra" $300 payment too and was confused. I spent hours trying to reach someone at NYSDOL by calling the regular number but couldn't get through. Eventually I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me get past the phone system and connect with an agent within about 25 minutes. They showed exactly how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent confirmed that March 27 is indeed the cutoff date, so any week ending on or before that date qualifies for the supplement. Since I certified on Sunday for the week ending March 22, I got the $300. Next week will be the first one without it. Might be worth calling to confirm your specific situation if you're still confused - their online info isn't always clear.

•i dont trust these servicse that say they can get u thru to unemployment faster sounds like a scam to me

•I was skeptical too but it's legit - it's just a system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold for you. Saved me a ton of time and frustration. Before that I tried calling directly for 3 days with no luck.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful responses! So it sounds like since I certified for the week ending March 22, I was still eligible for the $300, and next week will be the first one without it. Really appreciate all the clarification - the DOL communications can be so confusing sometimes!

•You're welcome! And yes, that's exactly right. You'll see the difference in your payment amount after your next certification. It might be a good time to review your budget and adjust for the reduced income.
