Confusion about re-entering direct deposit info for New York Unemployment - Did I mess up?
Hey everyone, I'm a bit confused about the direct deposit setup for unemployment benefits. When I initially applied, I put in my banking info for direct deposit. But later, when I went to file my claim, there was an option to 'register for direct deposit.' I went ahead and did the IDme verification and entered my bank account details again. Now I'm worried - was this the right thing to do? Or should I have just left it alone since I already set up direct deposit when I first applied? Anyone else run into this?

Dont worry too much about it. The system is probably just double-checking your info. As long as you entered the same bank account details, you should be fine. The IDme verification is just an extra security step they've added recently.

ā¢Thanks for the reassurance! I did use the same account info, so hopefully it'll all work out.

ā¢Yeah, I had to do the same thing. It's just their way of making sure everything's up to date. No biggie! š

I found a method to get someone on the phone about this. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

ā¢Wow, that sounds interesting. How long did you have to wait before they connected you?

ā¢It took about an hour, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. And yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me so much time and frustration.

ā¢$20 to actually talk to someone? The system is so broken š¤¦āāļø

Hey there! I've been dealing with NY unemployment for a while now, and I can shed some light on this situation. Here's what you need to know: ⢠The option to 'register for direct deposit' that you saw is actually a normal part of the process. It's not uncommon for the system to ask you to verify or re-enter your information, especially with the increased security measures they've implemented recently. ⢠The IDme verification is a new step that's been added to prevent fraud. It's separate from your direct deposit setup, but they often have you do both at the same time for convenience. ⢠As long as you entered the same bank account information both times, you should be absolutely fine. The system will recognize that the details match and proceed accordingly. ⢠If you're still concerned, you can always log into your account and check your payment method. It should show your direct deposit information if everything was processed correctly. ⢠In case you notice any discrepancies or if your payment method isn't showing up correctly, don't panic! You can usually update this information online, or as a last resort, try to contact them. ⢠Speaking of contacting them, if you're having trouble getting through on the phone, I've heard good things about a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They can help you get in touch with a real person at unemployment without the endless hold times. Remember, the NY unemployment system can be frustrating, but they're generally pretty good about making sure people get their benefits. Hang in there!

ā¢Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! It's really helpful to have all this information laid out. I'll definitely check my account to make sure everything looks right.

ā¢Yeah, I've used Claimyr a couple times when I had issues I couldn't resolve online. It's legit - saved me hours of frustration. But obvs try the online options first if you can!

Quick tip: take screenshots of everything you do on the unemployment website. It's saved my butt more than once when there were 'glitches' in the system.

I went through something similar last month! When I saw that "register for direct deposit" option, I was confused too because I had already entered my banking info during the initial application. Turns out it's totally normal - the system sometimes asks you to re-verify your information as part of their fraud prevention measures. The IDme verification is just an extra security layer they've added recently. As long as you used the same bank account details both times, you should be good to go. I got my first payment about a week after doing the re-verification, so don't stress too much about it! The NY unemployment system is confusing but it usually works itself out.

I had the exact same thing happen to me! I was so paranoid that I messed something up by doing the direct deposit registration again. But honestly, it's just how their system works - they make you jump through extra hoops for security. I think what happens is when you first apply, that's just collecting your info, but then when you actually start filing claims, they want you to verify everything again through their newer security system. The IDme thing is annoying but it's become standard for a lot of government services now. As long as you put in the same bank info both times, you should be totally fine. Mine went through without any issues and I've been getting payments regularly since then. NY unemployment is just... extra complicated for no good reason lol

ā¢This is so reassuring to hear! I was literally losing sleep over this thinking I somehow messed up my benefits. It's good to know that other people went through the same thing and everything worked out fine. The NY unemployment system really does seem unnecessarily complicated - like why can't they just make it clear what you're supposed to do instead of making us all second-guess ourselves? š Thanks for sharing your experience!

I totally get the confusion - the same thing happened to me! When I first applied, I entered my bank info, but then later when I was filing my weekly claim, I saw that "register for direct deposit" option and wasn't sure if I was supposed to do it again or not. I ended up doing it just to be safe, and it worked out fine. The IDme verification is just their new security thing - it's separate from the direct deposit setup but they often bundle them together. As long as you used the same bank account info both times, you should be all set. The system is just double-checking everything. I know it's stressful when you're not sure if you did something wrong, but from what I've seen, most people who go through this process end up getting their benefits without any issues. The NY unemployment system is definitely not the most user-friendly, but it usually works out in the end!

ā¢Thanks for explaining this so clearly! I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now and was worried I somehow duplicated my application or created some kind of error in the system. It's really helpful to hear from people who have actually been through this process and can confirm that it's normal. The whole IDme thing threw me off too - I wasn't expecting another verification step after already providing all my info initially. Good to know that as long as I used the same bank details both times, I should be okay. Fingers crossed my first payment comes through soon! š¤

You definitely didn't mess up! I went through the exact same thing a few months ago and was panicking thinking I somehow broke my application. The "register for direct deposit" option appears even if you already entered banking info during your initial application - it's just their way of making sure everything is current and verified through their newer security system. The IDme verification is totally separate and required for almost everyone now as an anti-fraud measure. As long as you entered the same bank account details both times (which it sounds like you did), you're golden. I got my first payment about 10 days after doing the re-verification process. The NY unemployment system definitely could be clearer about what's required vs optional, but you handled it correctly! Don't stress about it - you should see your benefits coming through soon š

ā¢This is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been checking my account obsessively wondering if I did something wrong. It's such a relief to know that this whole re-verification thing is normal and that other people have gone through the same confusing process. The NY unemployment website really should have some kind of explanation about why they're asking for the same info twice - would save so many people from stressing out like we all did! Thanks for sharing your timeline too, now I have a better idea of when to expect my payment š

I'm going through this exact same situation right now and honestly, it's such a relief to read all these responses! I was so confused when I saw the "register for direct deposit" option after already entering my bank info during the initial application. I kept thinking "didn't I already do this?" but went ahead and did it anyway because I didn't want to risk messing up my benefits. The IDme verification was new to me too - I wasn't expecting that extra step. Reading everyone's experiences here makes me feel so much better about the whole thing. It sounds like this is just how NY unemployment works now with all their security updates. I used the same bank account both times so hopefully everything goes smoothly. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories - this community is seriously a lifesaver when dealing with this confusing system! š

ā¢You're so right about this community being a lifesaver! I was in the exact same boat a few weeks ago and reading everyone's experiences here really helped calm my nerves. The NY unemployment system really doesn't do a great job explaining why they ask for the same information multiple times - it would be so much less stressful if they just had a simple note saying "this is normal security verification" or something. But sounds like you handled everything correctly! The waiting part is definitely the hardest, but based on what everyone else has shared, you should see your payment coming through in the next week or two. Keep us posted on how it goes! š

I'm dealing with this exact same confusion right now! When I first applied, I definitely entered my banking info, but then when I went to certify for my first week, there was that "register for direct deposit" button staring at me and I had no idea if I was supposed to click it or not. I ended up doing it because I was paranoid about missing out on my benefits, but then immediately started second-guessing myself. It's so frustrating that the system doesn't explain whether this is required or just optional when you've already provided the info. Reading all these responses is making me feel way better though - sounds like this is just their confusing way of doing extra verification. Fingers crossed we all get our payments without any issues! š¤

ā¢I'm so glad you posted this because I'm literally going through the exact same thing right now! I saw that "register for direct deposit" button and stared at it for like 10 minutes trying to figure out if I should click it or not š I eventually did it too because like you said, I was worried about messing up my benefits. It's crazy how many of us are dealing with this same confusion - you'd think they could just add a simple explanation like "click here to verify your previously entered banking information" or something. But based on what everyone else is saying, it sounds like we all did the right thing! Hopefully our payments come through soon and we can stop stressing about whether we accidentally broke something in the system lol

Don't worry, you did the right thing! I went through this exact same confusion about 6 weeks ago. The "register for direct deposit" option shows up even after you've already entered your banking info during the initial application - it's basically their way of having you verify everything through their updated security system. The IDme verification is a newer requirement they added to prevent fraud, so that's completely separate from your original direct deposit setup. Since you used the same bank account details both times, you're totally fine! The system will just confirm that everything matches up. I was stressed about it too, but my payments started coming through about 8-10 days after I did the re-verification. The NY unemployment system definitely could be way clearer about what's happening at each step, but you handled it perfectly. Just keep an eye on your account over the next week or so and you should see everything processing normally! šŖ

ā¢Thank you so much for this reassurance! It's incredibly helpful to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing just a few weeks ago. I was definitely overthinking it and getting anxious about whether I somehow messed up my application. Your timeline is really helpful too - knowing that payments typically start coming through 8-10 days after the re-verification gives me a better idea of what to expect. You're absolutely right that the NY unemployment system could be SO much clearer about these steps. A simple "this is normal verification" message would save so many people from stressing out! Thanks for taking the time to explain everything - this community really is amazing for helping each other navigate this confusing process! š
