EDD Direct Deposit setup missing - can't find where to enter my bank info
I got approved for unemployment benefits last week after waiting forever for my claim to process. I heard EDD finally offers direct deposit instead of those annoying Money Network cards, but I can't figure out how to set it up! I've been poking around in UI Online for the past hour and don't see any option to enter my bank account info. I want to get this squared away BEFORE my first payment so I don't have to deal with the card at all. Has anyone successfully set up direct deposit with EDD? Where exactly is this option hiding? Do I need to call them to enable it?

The direct deposit option should be available in your UI Online account under 'Payment Preferences' or 'Payment Methods.' Log in to your UI Online account, go to the homepage, and look for a section about payment options. If you're not seeing it, make sure you're looking at the desktop version of the site - sometimes the mobile view hides certain features.

•Thanks, but that's the issue - I don't have ANY payment preferences section showing up at all! I've checked both on my laptop and phone. Is it possible they haven't activated it for my account yet since I'm newly approved?

EDD has been ROLLING OUT the direct deposit option in PHASES and not everyone has it available yet!!!! My neighbor got it 2 months ago but my account STILL doesn't have the option. When I called they said I was "in a later phase" whatever that means. Just more government inefficiency making us wait. Can't even implement a basic banking feature properly. 🙄

You actually need to verify your identity through ID.me first before the direct deposit option shows up. I was confused about this too! Once you complete the ID verification, wait 24-48 hours, then log back in and the payment preferences section should appear. At least that's how it worked for me back in January.

•Oh that might be it! I did the ID.me verification when I first applied, but maybe it didn't fully process? Is there a way to check if my ID verification is complete?

The direct deposit option is definitely available now but there are a few requirements before it shows up in your account: 1. Your claim must be fully approved (not just filed) 2. Your identity must be verified through ID.me 3. You need to have certified for at least one week 4. Sometimes you need to have received at least one payment on the Money Network card first It sounds like you might not have certified for any weeks yet, or perhaps your first payment hasn't processed. Once those steps are complete, you should see a "Payment Method" option under the "Payment Preferences" section when you log in.

•This makes sense! I haven't certified for any weeks yet - my first certification period opens up this Sunday. Sounds like I need to wait until after I certify and possibly get my first payment before the direct deposit option will appear. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

I had this same issue last month!! For me the direct deposit section just randomly appeared after my first payment went to the card. Kind of annoying but at least you can switch it eventually

If you're in a hurry to get this resolved, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative. I was having the same issue with direct deposit not showing up, spent days trying to call with no luck. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who fixed it right away - apparently there was a flag on my account that needed to be removed. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Does that service actually work? I've been trying to call EDD for TWO WEEKS about incorrect payment amounts and either get disconnected or told "maximum callers reached" EVERY SINGLE TIME!

One more thing to note: When the direct deposit option does appear, make sure you have your bank account and routing numbers ready, along with a copy of a voided check or bank statement. EDD will require verification of the account details, and you'll need to confirm the amounts of two small test deposits they'll make to your account. The whole process takes about 3-5 business days from start to finish.

•Thank you! I've got all my banking information ready to go. I'll wait until after my first certification this weekend and see if the option appears. If not, I might try calling them directly or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned.

Based on what everyone's saying, it sounds like you need to: 1) Complete ID verification, 2) Have an approved claim, 3) Certify for at least one week, and 4) Possibly receive your first payment on the card before the direct deposit option appears. The system isn't very intuitive, but once you get it set up, it works pretty well. I've been getting direct deposit for about 6 months now and it's much better than dealing with the card.

•Thanks everyone for the helpful info! I'll certify this weekend and then wait for the direct deposit option to appear. Really appreciate all the guidance!
