EDD direct deposit rejected by my bank - will it automatically go to Money Network card?

I'm in a weird situation with my unemployment payments and hoping someone can help. My weekly benefit amount was certified and approved last Thursday ($475). I have direct deposit set up with EDD going to my credit union account, but I just got a notification that there was an issue with the deposit. Something about 'electronic deposit rejection' that I don't understand. The funds never showed up in my account. Does anyone know if EDD will automatically send the payment to the Money Network debit card in this situation? I have the card from when I first filed my claim last month, but I've never used it since I set up direct deposit right away. Will the payment just appear on the card, or is it stuck in limbo somewhere? I've tried calling EDD about 20 times today but keep getting the 'maximum callers' message.

yh this happened 2 me last yr. bank rejected it cuz account # was wrong (my mistake lol). took like 7-8 days but money ended up on the card automatically. u should check ur card balance online to see if its there yet

Thanks for the info! Do you remember how many days it took before it showed up on your card? I just checked online and there's nothing there yet.

The Money Network card is your default payment method, so yes, if a direct deposit fails for any reason, the payment will be redirected to your card. However, this process isn't instant - it typically takes 3-5 business days for the rejected funds to be reprocessed to your card. There are several reasons banks reject EDD deposits: 1. Incorrect account information 2. Closed accounts 3. Account restrictions (some accounts don't accept government deposits) 4. Name mismatch between EDD records and your bank account I recommend checking your UI Online account to verify your banking information is correct and calling your credit union to see if they can tell you specifically why the deposit was rejected.

This happened to my roommate! His bank (Wells Fargo) rejected the deposit because the account was set up as a "student account" that apparently had some restrictions on govt payments. Super annoying but the money did end up on his EDD card after about a week.

DONT TRUST THE MONEY NETWORK CARD!! They FREEZE accounts for NO REASON and take WEEKS to fix it!! I had $2200 stuck on mine for a MONTH because they decided to "verify my identity" out of nowhere!!! Call EDD and change your payment method back to paper checks if u can!!!

While the Money Network card has had some issues for certain claimants, it's actually quite reliable for most people. The identity verification issues typically happen when there's unusual activity on the card or multiple failed PIN attempts. Paper checks actually take longer to receive than card payments and can get lost in the mail. Each payment method has pros and cons.

If you need to speak with EDD about this issue, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation with rejected payments and couldn't get through on the phone for days. Claimyr helped me connect with an EDD rep within about 20 minutes instead of getting that frustrating "maximum callers" message over and over. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website is claimyr.com. Definitely worth it when you're dealing with payment issues because the EDD reps can see exactly where your payment is in the system and can often fix things immediately.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to give EDD one more day to see if the payment shows up on the card, and if not, I'll definitely check out that service. I can't afford to wait weeks for this to sort itself out.

To directly answer your question: Yes, if your bank rejects an EDD direct deposit, the payment will automatically be redirected to your Money Network debit card. This is EDD's standard procedure for handling rejected direct deposits. But there's an important timeline to understand: 1. When a bank rejects a deposit, it typically takes 2-3 business days for the funds to return to EDD 2. EDD then needs to process the returned payment, which takes another 1-2 business days 3. Finally, EDD will redirect the payment to your card, which takes 1-2 more business days All in all, you're looking at approximately 4-7 business days from rejection to the funds appearing on your card. I recommend checking your UI Online payment history daily - you'll see the status change once it's been redirected to the card.

OMG thank you for explaining this so clearly! I've been waiting for 5 days and was totally freaking out. This timeline makes me feel better.

Great to hear it worked out for you! For others who might face this issue, I'd also recommend contacting your bank/credit union to understand why the deposit was rejected in the first place. Sometimes it's a simple fix like updating your account information with EDD, or your bank might need to remove certain restrictions on government payments. This can save you from going through the same delay again on future payments. The 6-day timeline you experienced is pretty typical for this situation.

That's really good advice about contacting the bank! I had a similar issue where my credit union initially rejected EDD deposits because they had an old policy about electronic government payments. Once I called and explained it was unemployment benefits, they were able to update my account settings and now direct deposits work fine. Definitely worth a quick call to prevent future headaches.

Just went through this exact same situation last month! My bank (Chase) rejected my EDD deposit because apparently my account had some kind of fraud hold that I wasn't even aware of. The money took about 5 business days to show up on my Money Network card, which was nerve-wracking but it did happen automatically like everyone said. One thing I learned - make sure to activate your card and set up online access if you haven't already. When my payment finally hit the card, I got a text notification, but I couldn't see the balance until I had everything set up properly. Also, there's no fee to check your balance at Bank of America ATMs if you need cash right away once it arrives. Hope this helps ease some of the stress while you're waiting!

Thanks for the tip about Bank of America ATMs! I didn't know there were no fees there. That's really helpful since I'll probably need to withdraw cash once the payment hits my card. I'm still waiting (day 4 now) but everyone's experiences are making me feel much more confident that it will show up soon. Did you end up fixing the issue with Chase so future deposits work, or do you just use the card now?

I actually did end up fixing the Chase issue! Turned out the fraud hold was from some suspicious activity they detected a few weeks earlier (wasn't even related to EDD). Once I called their fraud department and verified my identity, they removed the hold and my direct deposits have been working fine ever since. But honestly, having gone through the whole Money Network card experience, it's not terrible as a backup. The card worked exactly as expected and I could access my money right away once it hit. Just make sure you keep track of which payment method is active in your UI Online account - sometimes EDD doesn't automatically switch you back to direct deposit after a rejection, so you might need to update it manually if you want future payments to go to your bank again.

This is such a common issue and it's really frustrating when you're depending on that money! I work at a credit union and see these EDD deposit rejections fairly often. The most common reasons are account number typos, accounts that were closed, or accounts with restrictions on government payments (like some student accounts or basic savings accounts). The good news is that yes, EDD will automatically redirect rejected payments to your Money Network card - it's built into their system as the backup payment method. The timeline everyone mentioned is accurate: usually 4-7 business days total. Pro tip: While you're waiting, log into your UI Online account and double-check all your banking info for any typos. Also call your credit union and ask specifically why the deposit was rejected - they should be able to tell you. If it's something like account restrictions, they might be able to fix it so your next payment goes through normally. Some credit unions have special "government payment" account types that work better for things like unemployment benefits. Hang in there - the money will show up on your card!

Thanks for this insight from the credit union perspective! It's really helpful to understand why these rejections happen so frequently. I'm dealing with this exact situation right now - my payment was rejected 3 days ago and I'm still waiting for it to appear on my card. Your explanation about account restrictions makes sense because I do have a basic savings account that I rarely use for electronic deposits. I'm definitely going to call my credit union tomorrow to ask about the specific reason and see if they have better account options for government payments. It's reassuring to hear from someone who sees this regularly that the money will eventually show up on the card!

I went through this exact same thing about 3 months ago! My bank (Navy Federal) rejected my EDD deposit because I had recently moved and apparently there was a mismatch between my address on file with EDD and my bank account. It was super stressful because I needed that money for rent. The payment did automatically go to my Money Network card, but it took 6 business days which felt like forever when you're waiting for it. What I learned from calling both EDD and my bank is that you should definitely try to figure out why it was rejected so it doesn't happen again. In my case, I just had to update my address with EDD through UI Online. One thing that helped me while waiting was setting up text alerts on the Money Network card so I got notified the moment the payment hit. You can do this through their mobile app or website. Also, don't panic if it takes the full week - the system works, it's just slow! Once you get this resolved, I'd recommend doing a test with a small direct deposit first (if your bank allows it) to make sure everything works before your next unemployment payment. Good luck!

That's really smart advice about doing a test deposit first! I never would have thought of that. I'm in a similar boat right now - my payment was rejected 4 days ago and I'm anxiously checking my Money Network card balance every few hours. Setting up the text alerts is a great tip too, I'm going to do that right now so I don't have to keep obsessively checking. It's so stressful when you're counting on that money! Did you end up sticking with direct deposit after you fixed the address issue, or did you switch to just using the card?

I actually went back to direct deposit after fixing the address issue and it's been working fine ever since! Navy Federal processed all my subsequent EDD payments without any problems once the addresses matched up. The test deposit idea came from a friend who works in banking - she said a lot of people don't realize you can often do a small test transfer to verify everything is set up correctly before the important payments come through. For the text alerts, make sure you verify your phone number in the Money Network system first, otherwise the alerts won't work. Hang in there, your payment should hit the card any day now based on the timeline everyone else has shared!

I'm currently dealing with this exact situation right now! My EDD payment was rejected by my bank 2 days ago and I've been really stressed about it. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful - it sounds like this is way more common than I thought. I called my bank (US Bank) and they told me the rejection was due to their "enhanced fraud protection" flagging the EDD deposit as suspicious since I don't usually receive government payments. They said they could remove the flag for future deposits, but the current payment is already on its way back to EDD. Based on what everyone is saying about the 4-7 day timeline, I should see it on my Money Network card in the next few days. I'm definitely going to set up those text alerts that someone mentioned and try to get this bank issue resolved so my next payment goes through smoothly. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it's really reassuring to know this gets resolved automatically even though the wait is nerve-wracking when you need the money!
