PA UC direct deposit setup question - confused by bank verification steps
Can someone walk me through setting up direct deposit for PA unemployment benefits? I'm at the page where it asks for my bank info, but I'm confused about the verification process. Do they make small deposits to confirm my account like some other services do? How long does it typically take for direct deposit to start working after setup? I've been getting payments on the Money Network card but the fees are killing me. Any help would be super appreciated!

Setting up direct deposit for PA UC is pretty straightforward. After you enter your bank details (routing and account numbers), the system doesn't do test deposits like some other services. They just verify the info electronically. Once approved, your next payment should go directly to your bank account. The change usually takes effect within 1-2 business days, so if you set it up today, your next payment should go to your bank instead of the card. Make sure to keep your Money Network card though, just in case there are any issues!

Thank you! Do I need to call someone to confirm after I enter my info or is it all automatic? Also, will they send me an email when it's been approved?

BE CAREFUL WITH THIS!!!!! I did direct deposit setup last year and somehow they entered my account # wrong even tho I tripple checked it!! Took 3 WEEKS to get my money after that and I nearly got EVICTED!!! The money network card is annoying but at least it WORKS. If u really want direct deposit make sure u check ur claim dashboard every day after to make sure the money actually goes through!!!

When I set up direct deposit for my PA UC benefits back in January, the process was completely electronic. You'll need:\n\n1. Your bank's routing number (9 digits)\n2. Your checking account number\n3. To verify if you want your full payment deposited (usually yes)\n\nAfter you submit, the system typically processes it within 1-2 business days. They don't send confirmation emails, so you'll need to check your dashboard to see when it changes status. The first payment after setup might still go to your card, but subsequent ones should hit your bank account. Just make sure everything looks correct before submitting!

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll make sure to triple check all my numbers. Do you know if there's any way to confirm it went through correctly before my next payment date? I'm really nervous about messing this up.

Yes, you can switch back to the Money Network card if needed. Just go to the same section where you set up direct deposit and you can update your payment preference. You might have to wait 1-2 payment cycles for the change to take effect though.

I had the worst time trying to reach someone at PA UC when my direct deposit didn't go through. Busy signals for DAYS. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent was able to see that my bank rejected the deposit because I had entered one digit wrong in my account number. They fixed it right away and my next payment went through fine. Definitely worth it because I was about to miss rent payment waiting on hold.

OMG that happened to me too!!! Did they eventually give you the money or did you lose it?? The PA UC system is such a disaster!!

@person asking about Claimyr - yes it worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days. Instead of calling and getting busy signals for hours, they connected me to an agent in about 20 mins. They don't guarantee you'll get your issue resolved, just that you'll get through to someone. In my case the agent fixed my direct deposit issue right away. Worth considering if you've been trying for 2 weeks with no luck.

Just wanted to add - when you set up direct deposit for PA UC, make sure you have enough money in your account to cover any potential overdraft fees. Sometimes there can be verification transactions that might trigger fees if your account is near zero. Also, once your direct deposit is active, payments typically arrive 1-2 days faster than they would to the Money Network card. It's definitely worth doing!

That's great to know about the faster payments! That alone makes it worth switching. I've got the fees issue with the card and sometimes it takes forever for merchants to process the payments.

Just set up my direct deposit last week and wanted to share my experience! The process was pretty smooth - no test deposits like some banks do. I was extra paranoid after reading about people having issues, so I actually took screenshots of my bank info before entering it and double-checked every digit. The status changed to "direct deposit active" on my dashboard after about 24 hours. My payment this week went straight to my bank account instead of the Money Network card. One thing I noticed is that it showed up as "PA UNEMPLOYMENT" on my bank statement, so don't panic if you see that. Definitely worth switching from the card - no more ATM fees!

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you for sharing your experience step-by-step. Taking screenshots of the bank info before entering is such a smart idea - I'm definitely going to do that. It's reassuring to know that it only took 24 hours for your status to change and that you could see it on the dashboard. The "PA UNEMPLOYMENT" label on the bank statement is good to know too so I don't get confused when I see it. Really appreciate you taking the time to share the details!

Just wanted to add one more tip that helped me - before submitting your direct deposit info, try logging into your online banking and copying the routing and account numbers directly from there instead of trying to remember them or read them from a physical check. That way you know they're 100% accurate. Also, some banks have slightly different routing numbers for electronic transfers vs. paper checks, so the online banking portal will give you the right one for direct deposit. I learned this the hard way when my first attempt got rejected because I used the wrong routing number from an old check!

•That's such a great tip about using the routing number from online banking instead of a check! I had no idea that some banks have different routing numbers for electronic vs paper transactions. I was planning to just use the numbers from my checkbook but now I'll definitely log into my account first. It would be awful to go through the setup process only to have it rejected because of the wrong routing number. Thanks for sharing that lesson learned - it could save a lot of people from having the same issue!

Hey everyone! I just successfully set up my direct deposit yesterday and wanted to share a few additional tips that might help others avoid issues. First, make sure you're entering your info during regular business hours if possible - I've heard the system can be glitchy late at night or on weekends. Second, after you submit everything, write down the exact date and time you completed it so you can reference it if you need to call later. Third, if you have a joint account, make sure the name on your UC claim matches the name on the bank account exactly - even middle initials matter! I also kept my Money Network card active for one extra week just to be safe, and I'm glad I did because there was a one-day delay before my first direct deposit went through. The peace of mind was worth it! Hope this helps anyone still on the fence about making the switch.
