Will PA UC accept Current online bank for direct deposit payments?
Hey everyone! I just got approved for unemployment in PA and I'm trying to set up direct deposit. I use Current as my main bank (it's an online bank) and I'm wondering if PA unemployment will accept it for direct deposit? Has anyone successfully used Current or other online banks for their UC payments? Don't want my money getting stuck in limbo because I gave them a bank they don't work with! Thanks in advance for any help!

•That's reassuring! How long does it usually take for the money to show up in your Chime account after your weekly claim is processed?

PA UC will accept virtually any bank account with a valid routing and account number for direct deposit, including online banks like Current, Chime, Varo, etc. The unemployment system doesn't distinguish between traditional and online banks. Just make sure you double-check your account and routing numbers when entering them. If you're worried, you can always opt for the Money Network debit card instead, but direct deposit is typically faster.

•Thank you so much for the detailed info! I'll make sure to triple-check the numbers. Do you know if there's any way to verify they've accepted my bank info after I submit it?

Welcome to the wonderful world of PA unemployment LOL! I tried using SoFi last year and it worked fine but then one random week my payment just disappeared into thin air! Took 3 weeks to track it down! Make sure you SAVE YOUR CONFIRMATION NUMBER when you enter your bank details!!!

•This happened to my cousin too!!! But with a regular bank (PNC). I think sometimes the system just glitches no matter what bank you use. The real issue is trying to talk to someone when there's a problem.

I tried to use Varo at first but my payments kept getting rejected for some reason. Switched to Wells Fargo and everything worked fine after that. Maybe some online banks have issues with government deposits? Not sure about Current specifically though.

•That's unusual. The issue might have been with how the account information was entered rather than Varo itself. PA UC deposits should work with any legitimate bank that has proper routing and account numbers. Sometimes there can be verification delays with newer online banks, but they should still work. If anyone has trouble, double-check your account/routing numbers and make sure your name on the UC claim exactly matches your bank account name.

I've had Current for years and used it for my PA unemployment last winter no problem! Just make sure you have the right routing number. Current actually has TWO different routing numbers depending on when you opened your account!!! Check their app under account details to be sure.

•Oh wow, I didn't realize about the two routing numbers! Just checked and you're right. Thank you SO much for pointing that out - I definitely would've used the wrong one!

Does anyone know if you can switch from the Money Network card to direct deposit after you've already started getting payments? I hate that stupid card but thought it was my only option when I filed.

•Yes, you can switch from the Money Network card to direct deposit at any time. Just log into your PA UC dashboard, go to Payment Information, and select 'Change Payment Type.' Enter your banking details and future payments will go to your bank account. Just be aware that any money already on your Money Network card will stay there - only new payments will go to your bank account after the change.

one thing to watch out for with ANY bank is that the PA UC deposits dont always come on the same day each week... sometimes Monday, sometimes Wednesday... drives me NUTS trying to budget!!!

•That's good to know - I'll make sure not to count on a specific day for planning bill payments. Hoping my Current account works out!

Update for anyone reading this thread in 2025: PA UC has improved their direct deposit system and now accepts all valid banks, including online-only banks. Your first payment might take 1-3 business days longer for verification purposes if you're using a newer online bank, but subsequent payments should process at normal speed. The system now also sends email confirmations when your banking information is accepted and verified.

•This is super helpful, thank you! Just submitted my Current bank info today so I'll keep an eye out for that verification email.
