Can't reach NY Unemployment office - high call volume message every time
Hey everyone, I'm having a major problem with the unemployment office. I've been trying to call them since Monday to deal with my waiting period, but no matter what time I try, I keep getting a message saying they're experiencing high call volume and can't take my call. I've gone through all the prompts, but it's always the same result. I can't get my benefits until I talk to someone, but it seems impossible to reach them! Anyone else dealing with this or know how to get through? It's driving me crazy!

Ugh, welcome to the club š I've been trying for weeks now. It's like they don't want us to get our money or something.

ā¢Same boat here. Its ridiculous how they expect us to survive without being able to reach them.

I actually found a method that worked for me to get someone on the phone. I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it was worth it for me. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work? Did you really get through?

ā¢Yeah, I was skeptical at first too. But it really did work for me. You pay, then they start calling and stay on hold. When an agent picks up, they forward the call to your phone. Saved me hours of frustration.

ā¢$20 just to make a phone call? That's highway robbery! š¤

ā¢I get it, but think about how much time you waste trying to call yourself. For me, it was worth the cost to finally get my issue resolved.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard thats the best time to get through.

This is why I hate dealing with government agencies. Always understaffed, overworked, and impossible to reach. The whole system needs an overhaul.

I feel your pain, OP. Here's what I've learned from my experience with NY unemployment: ⢠Persistence is key. Keep trying at different times of the day. ⢠Early morning (right when they open) or late afternoon tend to have slightly better luck. ⢠Use the online system as much as possible for anything you can do without calling. ⢠Check if there's an option to request a callback on their website. ⢠If you're really desperate, some people have had success reaching out to their local state representatives for help. ⢠Consider using a service like claimyr.com if you're willing to pay to save time. Remember, everyone's struggling with this, so don't feel alone. The system is overwhelmed, but keep at it. Good luck!

ā¢I tried the state rep thing and it actually worked! Took a few days but they helped me get through.

Have you tried their online chat? Sometimes its easier to get help there than on the phone.

ā¢Online chat? Where do you find that option? I've never seen it on the ny unemployment site.

ā¢It's kinda hidden. Go to the main page, scroll all the way down, and look for a little chat bubble icon in the corner. It's not always available tho.

This is why I'm considering moving to a different state. NY unemployment is a joke š¤”

Anybody else think its weird that we pay taxes for these services but then cant even use them when we need to? š¤

I heard they're updating their phone systems soon. Hopefully that'll make it easier to get through. Fingers crossed! š¤

I'm going through the exact same thing! Been calling for almost two weeks now and it's beyond frustrating. What I've been doing is calling multiple times throughout the day - sometimes I'll call 10-15 times in a row because occasionally one will go through to the hold queue instead of getting that dreaded "high call volume" hangup message. Also, try calling on different days of the week - I've heard Tuesdays and Wednesdays might be slightly less busy than Mondays. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get basic help with our benefits. Stay strong and keep trying! šŖ
