NYSDOL Unemployment: Tips to reach a rep after days of failed calls?
So I've been trying to get through to the unemployment office for days now. I keep calling back to finish my conversation with them, but it's like hitting a brick wall every time. Anyone else in the same boat? It's driving me crazy! Any tips on how to actually get someone on the line?

OP, I feel your frustration. One option that I found useful is using Claimyr, as mentioned earlier. It does offer a service that can significantly cut down wait times, and some people have had success with it. However, at $20, it may not be feasible for everyone. It's worth exploring alternatives like reaching out to your state representative, as they might help expedite the process. Another avenue could be public social media channels, which sometimes get faster responses due to public visibility. Remember, persistence pays off. Keep trying the call strategies shared here and, if possible, find someone who can help share the load of calling. Lastly, while it's easy to be frustrated, try to be patient and understanding with the representatives. They're often overwhelmed and doing their best under challenging circumstances. Good luck, and I hope you find a resolution soon!

Here's a pro tip: call your local state representative's office. They often have direct lines to unemployment and can help push your case through. Worked for me!

I've been dealing with this nonsense for MONTHS. It's absolutely ridiculous that we can't get basic help when we need it. The whole system needs an overhaul.

Listen up, y'all. Here's what you need to do to maximize your chances of getting through: 1. Call right at 8:00 AM when they open. Set multiple alarms if you have to. 2. If you get a busy signal, hang up and immediately redial. Don't wait. 3. Have all your info ready - claim number, SSN, etc. You don't want to waste time once you get through. 4. Be persistent. It might take 50+ calls, but don't give up. 5. Try different days of the week. Mondays and Fridays tend to be busiest. 6. If you have multiple phones, use them all at once to increase your odds. 7. Be nice to the rep when you finally get through. They're probably overwhelmed too. Remember, it's a numbers game. The more you call, the better your chances. Good luck!

•Great tips! I'd add: use a phone autodialer app if you can. Saves your finger from all that redialing.

Anyone else feel like we're living in a Kafka novel trying to deal with these government agencies? 🤡

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the URL: https://claimyr.com

Have you tried tweeting at them? Sometimes public shaming works wonders 😈

Guys, I know it's frustrating, but remember the people answering the phones are just doing their jobs. They're probably overwhelmed too. Let's try to be kind when we do get through.

•True, but it's hard to be nice when you're desperate and can't pay your bills 😔

•Agree. It's not the reps fault the system is broken. Be mad at the higher-ups, not the workers.

Have you tried using their online portal? Sometimes you can resolve issues without actually talking to anyone.

•I tried that, but my issue is too complicated for the online system. Thanks for the suggestion tho!

I feel your pain, OP. Been there, done that. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to a human being. Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works for me.

I've been in the exact same situation and it's beyond frustrating! What finally worked for me was a combination of calling right at 8 AM sharp and using the auto-redial feature on my phone. I also found that Tuesday through Thursday tend to be slightly less busy than Mondays and Fridays. One thing that helped was having someone else call from a different phone at the same time - doubled my chances of getting through. Also, don't hang up if you get put on hold for a long time, even if it's been over an hour. I waited 2.5 hours once but finally got through. The key is persistence and not giving up. You got this!
