EDD phone lines always busy - Impossible to reach a real person. Any tips?
I've been trying to get through to unemployment for days now, and it's driving me crazy! No matter what time I call, I can't get through. The lines are always busy or they say they've reached maximum capacity. I've tried calling at different hours, even super early in the morning, but no luck. It's so frustrating because I really need to speak with someone about my claim. Has anyone else been dealing with this? Any tips on how to actually get through to a real person?

I found a way to solve unemployment phone line frustrations, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvcIy0KfJuE

Ugh, I feel your pain! I was in the same boat last month. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to someone. Have you tried calling right when they open? That worked for me once, but it took like 50 attempts 😫

•Yeah, I've tried that too. No luck so far. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get basic help!

•50 attempts? Jeez, that's insane. The system is so broken 🤦♂️

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work? Is it legit?

•It's totally legit! Basically, they use an automated system to call and navigate the phone tree for you. When a real person picks up, it connects you. Saved me hours of frustration.

•20 bucks tho? Kinda steep when were already struggling with unemployment 😕

•I get it, but for me it was worth it. I was losing my mind trying to get through on my own. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money, ya know?

Have you tried reaching out through their online portal? Sometimes that's faster than calling, although tbh their whole system is a dumpster fire 🔥

Here's what worked for me after weeks of trying: 1. Call exactly at 8:01 AM when they open 2. If you get a busy signal, hang up and immediately redial 3. Keep doing this for about 30 minutes straight 4. If you get through, DO NOT hang up no matter what 5. Be prepared to wait on hold for 2-3 hours It's a pain, but it eventually worked. Good luck!

•Wow, thanks for the detailed advice! I'll give this a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

•This is basically a full-time job just to get help lol. The system is so messed up.

I heard they're hiring more people to handle calls. Maybe it'll get better soon? 🤷♂️

•Lol yeah right. They've been saying that for months. I'll believe it when I see it 🙄

Pro tip: if you have a friend or family member who speaks another language, try the non-English line. Sometimes those have shorter wait times.

•Isn't that kinda unethical tho? What if you're taking a spot from someone who actually needs the language assistance?

•I mean, desperate times call for desperate measures. The whole system is unfair anyway 🤷♀️

I've been dealing with this for THREE MONTHS now. It's absolutely ridiculous. I'm behind on rent, can barely afford food, and these clowns can't even pick up a phone. Something needs to change.

•Have you tried reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things through.

•That's actually a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Anybody else notice it's gotten even worse since that new update to their system? It's like they're actively trying to make it harder for us 🙃

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! It's incredibly frustrating. I've been calling every day for the past two weeks and can't get through. What really gets me is that when you finally do get connected to the automated system, it just tells you they're at capacity and hangs up on you. Like, at least put me in a queue! I've tried the early morning strategy too but no luck. It feels like they're deliberately making it impossible to reach them. Really hoping some of these tips from others work because I'm running out of options here.

•Oh wow, two weeks of calling every day? That's brutal! I'm dealing with the same thing and it's so maddening when they just hang up on you instead of putting you in a queue. Have you tried any of the suggestions people mentioned above? I'm thinking of trying that 8:01 AM strategy that @Connor Gallagher mentioned, or maybe looking into contacting a local representative like @Natasha Orlova suggested. This whole system is just broken 😤

I've been in the exact same situation for weeks now! The system is absolutely broken. What's worked for me a couple times is using multiple phones - have your cell phone, house phone, maybe even ask a friend to call at the same time right when they open. Sometimes one line gets through when others don't. Also, I found that Tuesday mornings seem to be slightly less busy than Mondays (probably because everyone tries Monday). Still took me literally 3 hours on hold, but I did eventually get through. Don't give up - I know it's soul-crushing but persistence is really the only way right now 😞

•That's a really smart strategy with the multiple phones! I never thought of that. Tuesday mornings being less busy makes total sense too - everyone probably floods the lines on Monday trying to start their week fresh. 3 hours on hold is rough but honestly worth it if you actually get to talk to someone. I might try recruiting some family members to help me dial in simultaneously. Thanks for sharing what worked for you - gives me hope that there's actually a way through this nightmare! 🙏

I'm dealing with this exact nightmare too! Been trying for over a month now and it's beyond frustrating. What's helped me a little is using a redial app on my phone - it automatically redials when it gets a busy signal so I don't have to sit there hitting redial manually for hours. Still haven't gotten through yet, but at least my finger doesn't hurt from pressing buttons all day 😅 Also found that keeping a detailed log of when I call helps me track patterns - like I noticed Wednesdays around 10:30am seem slightly less crazy than other times. The whole system is absolutely ridiculous though. We shouldn't have to become phone warriors just to get basic assistance!

•A redial app is genius! I can't believe I didn't think of that - my thumb is literally sore from hitting redial hundreds of times 😂 Keeping a log is smart too, I should start tracking patterns like you're doing. Wednesday 10:30am is an oddly specific time but hey, if it works even slightly better I'll take it! You're absolutely right that we shouldn't have to become "phone warriors" - it's insane that getting basic help requires military-level strategic planning. Thanks for sharing these tips, definitely going to try the redial app approach!

This is absolutely insane that we all have to go through this! I've been trying for weeks too and it's like they've designed the system to be as inaccessible as possible. Reading through everyone's strategies here is both helpful and depressing - the fact that we need elaborate battle plans just to talk to someone about our benefits is ridiculous. I'm definitely going to try the multiple phone approach and that redial app idea sounds brilliant. Has anyone had any luck with social media? Like tweeting at EDD or messaging them on Facebook? Sometimes companies respond faster to public complaints than phone calls. At this point I'm willing to try carrier pigeons if it means getting through to an actual human being! 😤

•Social media is actually not a bad idea! I haven't tried that approach yet but you might be onto something. Public pressure sometimes works when nothing else does. The carrier pigeon comment made me laugh - at this point that might actually be more reliable than their phone system 😂 It's honestly both comforting and horrifying to see how many of us are dealing with the exact same nightmare. Like, we're all sharing war stories about getting through to unemployment! That shouldn't be normal. I'm definitely adding the social media angle to my list of strategies to try. Thanks for the suggestion!

This thread is both incredibly helpful and deeply depressing at the same time! Reading everyone's strategies makes me realize I'm not alone in this nightmare, but also shows just how broken the system really is. I've been trying for about 3 weeks now with zero success. The automated system hanging up instead of putting you in a queue is the most infuriating part - like, just let me wait! I'd rather sit on hold for 4 hours than get hung up on instantly. Going to try combining some of these strategies tomorrow: multiple phones at 8:01 AM, that redial app @Emma Davis mentioned, and maybe hitting up social media like @Saleem Vaziri suggested. It's absolutely ridiculous that we need to become professional phone warriors just to access our own benefits, but here we are. Thanks everyone for sharing what's worked (and what hasn't) - at least we're all suffering together! 💪

•You're so right about this being both helpful and depressing! It's crazy that we've basically formed our own support group for dealing with EDD's broken system. The fact that getting hung up on instantly feels worse than waiting hours really says something about how low our expectations have gotten 😅 I love that you're planning to go full strategic mode tomorrow - multiple phones AND the redial app AND social media is like the nuclear option! If that combo doesn't work, nothing will. Keep us posted on how it goes! And yeah, "professional phone warriors" is the perfect way to describe what we've all become. Who knew unemployment would require developing elite-level telecommunications skills? 🤦♀️ We're definitely all in this together!

I'm going through this exact same hell right now! Been trying for almost 3 weeks and it's absolutely maddening. What really gets me is how the system just cuts you off instead of at least putting you in a queue - like, I'd happily wait 5 hours if it meant I could actually talk to someone! Reading through all these strategies is both encouraging and heartbreaking. It's wild that we need to coordinate military-style operations just to access basic services we're entitled to. I'm definitely going to try the multi-phone approach at 8:01 AM and that redial app idea. Also thinking about camping out at a local EDD office if there are any still open for in-person visits? Probably a long shot but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Thanks to everyone sharing their war stories - at least we know we're not going crazy alone! 🤬

•The local EDD office idea is actually really smart! I hadn't even thought of that - sometimes face-to-face is the only way to cut through the bureaucratic mess. You might want to call ahead (if you can even get through 😂) to see what their walk-in policy is, but honestly showing up in person could be way more effective than this phone nightmare. It's so frustrating that we're all having to become strategic masterminds just to access our own benefits. The fact that you're willing to physically camp out shows how desperate this situation has made all of us. Definitely keep us updated if the in-person route works - that could be a game-changer for everyone here! 💪

I'm in the exact same boat - been trying for over 2 weeks now and it's absolutely infuriating! The worst part is when you finally get past the busy signal and think you're making progress, only to have the system tell you they're at maximum capacity and just hang up. No queue, no callback option, nothing! I've been taking notes on everyone's strategies here and I'm planning to go full tactical tomorrow morning. Going to try the 8:01 AM sharp approach with multiple devices, downloaded a redial app, and even thinking about having my roommate help call simultaneously. It's insane that accessing basic unemployment benefits requires this level of coordination, but desperate times and all that. Has anyone tried physically going to a local office? I know most are appointment-only now, but wondering if showing up in person might be more effective than this phone lottery we're all stuck playing. At this point I'm willing to camp out if it means actually talking to a human being! 😤

•The maximum capacity hang-up is the absolute worst! It's like they're taunting us at that point - you get that tiny glimmer of hope when you get past the busy signal, then SLAM, disconnected. Your tactical approach sounds solid though - multiple devices, redial app, AND a roommate as backup? That's some serious coordination! 😅 I've been wondering about the physical office thing too. I found that some offices do walk-in hours but they're super limited and fill up fast. Might be worth calling (if you can get through to the local office line) to check their walk-in policy. At this point we're all basically developing PhD-level expertise in navigating broken government systems. Keep us posted on how tomorrow's mission goes - rooting for you! 🤞
