Been calling ny unemployment for a week straight - keep getting disconnected
Been trying to reach someone at unemployment since last Tuesday. Called everyday from Tuesday to Friday, and each time I get the same message saying they're experiencing high call volumes and then it just disconnects me. So frustrating! I've tried different times - early morning at 8:05, mid-morning around 10:30, lunch time, and even late afternoon before they close. Same result every single time with the 888-209-8124 number. I need to speak with an actual claim specialist about my case. Has anyone managed to get through lately? Any special tricks or times that work better? This is driving me crazy.

I know exactly how you feel. I spent two WEEKS trying to get through. Mornings, afternoons, tried pressing different options. Nothing worked until I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They basically call for you and then connect you when they get a real person. Talking to an agent got my benefits unlocked within 24 hours after weeks of getting nowhere. They have a YouTube video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•I thought the same thing at first, but I was desperate after two weeks of trying. It actually works - they just keep calling for you and connect you when someone answers.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just another one of those unemployment 'solutions' that never pan out?

•100% worked for me. I was connected to an agent within 2 hours after spending days trying on my own. Got my issue fixed that same day.

•I used it last month. Worth every penny after being hung up on for 3 straight days. My backpay was processed right after talking to the agent they connected me with.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I mean like dialing at 7:59 so your call goes through at 8:00 exactly. That sometimes works better. Also, Mondays and Tuesdays tend to be the worst days to call from my experience.

•Yeah I tried that twice - even set an alarm on my phone to make sure I was ready to dial exactly at 7:59. Still got the same message and disconnected 😩

•Shoot, that usually works for me. Maybe try Wednesdays around 2pm? That's when I finally got through last time.

Try hitting 2 as soon as the automated menu starts, then 1, then 1 again, then 9. Thats how I bypassed some of the wait times. Sometimes it puts you in a different queue.

The NYSDOL phone system is complete trash 🗑️. I had the same problem for almost 3 weeks. What finally worked was calling the governors office and complaining. They took my info and someone from unemployment called me back within 2 days. Worth a shot.

After dealing with the same frustration for days, I realized that calling repeatedly back-to-back actually hurts your chances. Their system recognizes the repeat calls and pushes you to the back. Try spacing out your calls by at least 30-45 minutes. That helped me eventually get through last month.

•100% real. Their phone system tracks repeat callers. My friend works in their IT department and confirmed this.

I know everyone's talking about various tricks, but honestly what worked for me was using claimyr.com. I was facing the exact same issue - constant disconnects and 'high call volume' messages. Talking to an agent got my issues resolved in one call after wasting 2 weeks trying to get through on my own. Best decision I made during my unemployment nightmare!

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

•They actually do what they say - they call repeatedly using their system until they get through, then they call you and connect you with the agent. It's that simple. No magic, just persistence that you don't have to do yourself.

If u have a specific question about your claim u can try messaging them on twitter. But for anything complex u really need to talk to someone. I've been where ur at - so stressful!

LPT: Try calling your local assembly person's office. Tell them your situation and they have special contacts at unemployment who can help. This worked for me after 3 weeks of trying to get through the regular number.

Here's my comprehensive guide to getting through to NY unemployment based on 2 months of personal hell dealing with them: First, understand that their system is deliberately understaffed and designed to frustrate you. Don't take it personally. Best calling times: Wed-Thur between 10:30-11:15am or 2:15-3pm. These are shift change/lunch times when queues sometimes reset. AVOID: Mondays entirely, and the first 30 mins after opening (everyone tries this). Option 1: Call repeatedly but SPACE OUT attempts (their system deprioritizes back-to-back callers) Option 2: Contact your state representative/assemblyperson - they have special contacts Option 3: Use a service like claimyr.com that will make the calls for you and connect you when they get through. This saved me after weeks of frustration and finally got my claim moving. Option 4: Direct message NYSDOL on Twitter with your issue (sometimes works for simple problems) Remember to have all your info ready when you do get through, and always be polite to the agent (not their fault the system sucks). Good luck!

•Option 3 worked for me too. After 9 days of calling myself I was ready to lose it. The Claimyr service had me talking to an agent in under 3 hours.

•What's crazy is that they haven't fixed this problem for YEARS. Like how is this still happening in 2023??

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but does anyone else think they design the system this way on purpose to discourage ppl from claiming benefits? 🧐

•100%! Florida literally admitted to this a few years ago. Make it hard enough and people give up.
