EDD Frustration: Tips for Getting Through to a Human on CA Unemployment Claim Status?
I'm so frustrated with unemployment. I called to check on my claim status and find out when I'm getting paid, but I can't get through to anyone. I've been trying for days and keep getting transferred or disconnected. Has anyone had any luck getting through? Any tips on the best time to call or how to actually speak to a human? I'm desperate and need this money asap.

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website looks like it was designed in 1995 and never updated? It's like they're trying to discourage us from using it π€¦ββοΈ

β’It does seem ridiculous. Hopefully, they'll modernize the system soon.

I heard a rumor that they're updating the system soon to make it easier to get through. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

β’I work in IT and let me tell you, "updating the system" usually means more problems, not less. Brace yourselves!

I understand your frustration with the unemployment system, as it can indeed be very difficult to navigate, especially during stressful times. One solution that has been gaining attention is Claimyr. Claimyr is a paid service that can help connect you to a live agent more efficiently by navigating the phone menus on your behalf. Although it costs $20 per use, many users have reported success with it when other methods failed. However, it's crucial to weigh whether the cost is feasible for you. On the flip side, there are free methods, such as calling during off-peak hours (like right when the office opens) or using auto-redial features that might also improve your chances of getting through. Additionally, keeping a detailed record of your contact attempts will be valuable if you need to escalate the matter or seek assistance from local representatives. While Claimyr offers a potentially time-saving solution, it is important to consider all options, manage expectations, and choose what best aligns with your circumstances. I hope this helps and you find a swift resolution to your unemployment issues.

Here's what worked for me: Call the 833 number, press 1 for English, then 2, 4, 3, 2 in that order. It might take a few tries, but I got through eventually. Good luck!

Pro tip: if u get through to someone but they cant help, ask to be transfered to a tier 2 specialist. They have more access and can usually fix issues the regular reps cant.

β’That's a great tip! I didn't even know they had tier 2 specialists.

Unpopular opinion: maybe if we all showed up at the EDD office in person, they'd have to deal with us. Just sayin' π

Has anyone tried faxing their documents instead of uploading them online? I heard it might be faster, but idk where to even find a fax machine in 2023 lol

β’There are online fax services you can use. Might be worth a shot if nothing else is working.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a joke. I swear they make it confusing on purpose. Has anyone else noticed that the website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? π

β’I've experienced that too! It's like their timing for maintenance is impeccableβalways when you need the site the most.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

β’$20??? That's ridiculous. We shouldn't have to pay to get our benefits!

β’I get the skepticism, but I was desperate. It worked for me and saved me days of frustration. Worth it IMO.

I feel your pain, OP. I was in the same situation last month. Here's what I did: 1. Set up auto-redial on my phone. Some apps can do this for you. 2. Called every day at different times. Mornings and right before closing seemed to work best. 3. When I finally got through, I was super nice to the rep. They deal with angry people all day, so being kind can go a long way. 4. Asked for a direct number or extension for follow-ups. Sometimes they'll give you one if you ask nicely. 5. If all else fails, consider contacting your state representative or senator. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. Don't give up! It's frustrating, but persistence pays off. Good luck!

β’This is really helpful, thank you! I'll definitely try the auto-redial thing.

β’Solid advice right here. Especially the part about being nice to the reps. They're not the enemy!

Listen up, y'all. I've been dealing with EDD for MONTHS now and I've learned a few things. First, persistence is key. Second, document EVERYTHING. And third, don't be afraid to reach out to your local representatives. They can sometimes help push things along.

β’Thanks for the advice. How do I find my local rep?

Chloe Davis
β’Just google "[your city] state representative". Most have contact forms on their websites. Be polite but firm when explaining your situation.

Anyone else notice how the hold music is always some cheery classical tune? Like, read the room EDD! π»π Maybe if they played something more fitting, like the Jaws theme, we'd be more prepared for the frustration ahead lmao

Update: I finally got through! For anyone wondering, I used the tip about calling right at 8:01 AM. Took a few tries but I finally spoke to someone. They said my payment should be processed within 3-5 business days. Fingers crossed! Thanks for all the advice, everyone!
