Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. NY unemployment payment stopped - related to Child Tax Credit? Overpayment notice confusion

I've been on unemployment since August and everything was going fine until about 2 weeks ago. Suddenly my weekly payments stopped coming through. I checked my account and there's an overpayment notice for $5,720 but no explanation why. I've been claiming exactly the same way every week since I started. Could this be related to the Child Tax Credit I received last month? I've tried calling over 25 times in the past week but can't get through to anyone. The automated system just says I have an outstanding issue but gives zero details. Has anyone else had their benefits frozen because of receiving the Child Tax Credit? This is so frustrating because I have no idea what triggered this overpayment claim!

Have yu tried going to a career center in person? sometimes face to face is better than these phone calls tbh

Most career centers can't help with claim issues anymore. They'll just tell you to call the main number. Ask me how I know 🤦‍♀️

ok so im in THIS EXACT situation right now. overpayment notice came outta nowhere. turns out they think I didnt report some freelance income (i did report it all). i finally got through using claimyr.com after two weeks of trying the regular number. agent told me it was a system error and fixed it on the spot. try that, seriously.

Can't claim weekly benefits even though my ny unemployment BYE isn't until April

My benefit year end date isn't supposed to be until mid April, but my effective days suddenly dropped to 0 last week. I was told by a friend to keep claiming anyway, but now when I log in I don't even see the option to certify for weekly benefits anymore. I tried calling the automated system and all it lets me do is check my payment history status. Nothing else. This is so frustrating because I still need these payments and have no idea what happened. Anyone else dealing with this? Going to try to get through to a real person today and will update what they say. Just feels like they're making it impossible to get help.

Have you tried going to one of the actual unemployment offices in person? Sometimes that's the only way to get help with complex issues.

NY Unemployment just told me a new monetary determination letter is on its way - but zero info about payment date

Just got off a call with a rep from unemployment. They told me a revised Monetary Determination letter is being mailed either tomorrow or Thursday. The frustrating part is they wouldn't tell me the amount or when I'll actually get paid! Asked to be transferred to someone who could give me more details and they said that wasn't possible. So now I'm stuck waiting for this letter to arrive before I can even try calling again. Been dealing with this for over 6 weeks already and still no money. Bills piling up and they just keep telling me to wait for more mail. Anyone else dealing with this run-around?

I was in your exact situation last month. When the letter finally came, I still had to call back to ask about payment date. Try calling at 8:01am sharp - that's when I got through with only a 20 min wait instead of hours.

Can new moms claim ny unemployment after giving birth? Can't reach anyone!

Just had my first baby in November and my maternity leave from work ended last month. My employer only gave me 6 weeks paid leave and I've been trying to figure out if I can get unemployment now since I need more time with my newborn before going back. My baby has some health issues that require extra care, and childcare costs are insane right now (like $2,300/month near me). I've tried calling the unemployment office like 20 times this week but either get disconnected or stuck on hold forever. Has anyone successfully gotten benefits after having a baby? Do we qualify if we choose not to return to work immediately after maternity leave ends? Really need advice from other parents who've navigated this!

The real answer is it depends on your specific situation, which is why you need to actually talk to someone. I gave up trying to call and used one of those call services (claimyr?) that waits on hold for you. Worth every penny because I finally got my questions answered instead of guessing.

Congrats on ur baby! But ya its really hard to get benefits for this reason. The system thinks ur supposed to have childcare magically lined up even tho it costs more than most people make 🤡 our country is so backwards when it comes to supporting new parents

NY unemployment back pay showing wrong amount - owed 19 weeks but account shows different balance

I just logged into my account yesterday and I'm totally confused about what I'm seeing. I've been waiting for backpay for 19 weeks (since late December) and today when I checked my account balance it's showing only $2,870. That can't be right? The weekly benefit amount I'm supposed to get is $420 so for 19 weeks that should be around $7,980. Did they take some of my backpay away? Does this mean they're only giving me part of what I'm owed? Has anyone had this happen where the system shows a different amount than what you're actually entitled to? I'm freaking out thinking they might have decided not to pay me for all those weeks.

just call them. the website is trash and always shows wrong info. don't trust what you see online with NY unemployment 💯

CALL THEM NOW dont wait. I had a similar situation where they randomly decided I wasnt eligible for 12 weeks of backpay and by the time I noticed it was almost too late to appeal. These issues get harder to fix the longer you wait.
