Any updates on this? I'm in the exact same situation and wondering if i should change my withholding for future payments at least
Not sure if this helps but I was in a similar situation... had taxes taken out and then heard something about a tax break. Turns out the tax break was only for 2020 unemployment during COVID times. For 2021-2023, unemployment is fully taxable again. You're probably better off having kept the withholding on so you don't owe a bunch when tax season comes around.
keybank is THE WORST. literally the most incompetent bank I've ever dealt with. took me 3 months to get my money back after fraud. i feel ur pain.
Anyone telling you to wait until June is only partially right. There ARE sometimes exceptions but you NEED to talk to a tier 2 agent (not just the first person who answers). I was in a similar situation and got an extension due to hardship but only after speaking to a supervisor.
That's really good to know. Now I just need to figure out how to actually reach someone on the phone 😞
Yeah thats the hard part. I used claimyr.com to get through after failing for weeks on my own. Worth checking out if youre desperate.
In my experience with ny unemployment, they'll keep your claim active but reduce your weekly payment. The bigger issue is that they don't always tell you BEFORE they start taking the money. My payment suddenly dropped by 35% one week with no warning. Had to call multiple times to figure out why.
Hi, I work as a benefits counselor. Yes, your claim will remain active while they recoup the overpayment. They typically withhold a percentage (25-50%) of your weekly benefit until the overpayment is recovered. You have the right to appeal the determination or request a waiver if repayment would cause financial hardship.

ok so weird suggestion but hear me out - I started FAXING all my documents to them (yes fax still exists) in addition to submitting electronically and my problems with "missing" deadlines stopped. Old school tech for an old school broken system I guess?

•This is actually brilliant. Where do you find the fax number???

•It's on the bottom of most of their official letters! There are also free fax apps you can use so you don't need an actual fax machine.
