Document EVERYTHING. When you finally do get through (and you will eventually), you'll need dates, times, and details of all your attempts to contact them. This can help you get backpay for the weeks you couldn't access your account.
Had the exact same ID.me verification issue. Turns out there was a glitch affecting lots of pregnant women - something about pregnancy affecting facial recognition?! 🤔 Wild guess but when I finally got through the agent said they'd seen this a lot with pregnant women. Apparently our faces change enough during pregnancy that it confuses their system? Either way, I used claimyr.com to finally get someone on the phone after trying for 7 weeks straight. Got it fixed in one call.
I had no idea this was a thing! I'm 8 months pregnant and having same issues. gonna try claimyr.com tomorrow
After 5 weeks of this nonsense I finally broke down and used claimyr.com - connected with an agent in under 2 hours. My identity verification was cleared in 10 minutes once I actually talked to someone. Ridiculous that we have to pay extra just to access our benefits but it saved my sanity.
how much did it cost? worth it?
It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after weeks of trying. Worth every penny when you're about to get evicted and need your benefits!
Ugh, I went through this exact same thing last month. The ID verification is a total nightmare. When I finally got through, the agent told me they've been swamped with fraud cases so they're extra paranoid about verification now.
did yours eventually get fixed? how long did it take?
Anyone else worried they'll send the refund to an old bank account? I changed banks since I filed 😬
oh thank god, that makes me feel better!
Called the IRS yesterday (took 3 attempts but finally got through). They told me my unemployment tax refund was processed on July 6th but could take 2-5 weeks to actually get deposited. Totally ridiculous system.
Check if your cousin's SSN has been leaked in any data breaches. Go to haveibeenpwned.com and enter his email - if it's been in any breaches, that might explain how someone got his info. My husband had the same ID.me issue and it turned out his data was leaked in the Equifax breach years ago.
lmao welcome to the ny unemployment experience 🤡 where nothing works and nobody cares. took me 4 months to get my benefits after identity issues. best advice: document EVERYTHING. every call, email, letter. you'll need it when they inevitably lose your info or claim they never received it.
yeah it's totally insane. the only thing that finally worked was getting my case escalated to a supervisor. but it's like impossible to get to one unless you know someone or get lucky with the right agent.
This is why I ended up using claimyr.com - I couldn't keep playing the call lottery hoping to get through. Their service connected me with an agent who transferred me to a supervisor right away.

I had almost the exact situation last fall. Once it changed from zeros to actual payment amounts, the money showed up in my account the next day (was supposed to take 3 days but came early). You're good to go!

Anyone know if there's a way to PREVENT this kind of identity theft from happening again in the future? This thread is scaring me.

•Freeze your credit with all 3 bureaus, use unique passwords for everything, check your credit report regularly, and consider identity theft protection services.
