My cousin started getting unemployment benefits after being laid off from his restaurant job last November. He found part-time work in May, so he stopped claiming. Now he's been let go again in August and tried to reopen his claim, but the system is forcing him to verify through ID.me first. When he tries to set up the account, he gets this message saying there's already an account with an email address he's never used before! We've been trying to get this fixed for almost a month. Called NY unemployment 8 times and they keep saying that only ID.me can fix this issue, but ID.me only responds through email. All we've gotten is an automated response saying "we'll be in touch" over 3 weeks ago. Meanwhile he's going on 6 weeks with no income and rent is due. Has anyone dealt with this ID.me duplicate account issue? How long did it take to resolve? I'm seriously worried he's gonna get evicted before this gets fixed.

So I filed my taxes in February this year and included my unemployment income from 2022. I know the IRS announced they're doing some kind of automatic adjustment/refund for taxes paid on unemployment benefits, but I haven't seen anything yet. Its been 4 months now since they announced this! My account on the IRS website still shows nothing about an additional refund. However, there was a period of 7 weeks where I was told I'd receive backpay for a processing delay they admitted was their fault. The agent I spoke with in July assured me the money would eventually be released, but I've checked my payment history several times and still nothing shows up. My concern is that since I'm no longer actively claiming, maybe the back payments won't appear in my regular payment history anymore? Has anyone received backpay after their claim was no longer active? Do I need to look somewhere else to see if they processed it? After trying to get through to someone at unemployment for literally 4 months, I finally spoke with an agent yesterday who told me I didn't meet the wage requirements for the quarter I filed in (July 2023). Apparently none of my previous calls flagged this issue! The agent suggested that I request to have my claim backdated to April, when I would have qualified based on my work history. Just submitted the backdating request through the ny unemployment website portal this morning. Has anyone else gone through this backdating process for similar reasons? How long did it take? Any advice on what else I should be doing while I wait?

Someone from DOL actually called me back yesterday and asked me a bunch of questions about my claim. They told me my case would be "expedited" but didn't give me any timeline or details. Has anyone gone through this process before? Will this actually help get my money faster or is this just another runaround? At this point I don't know what else to do.
