My KeyBank unemployment card suddenly stopped working after moving - NY unemployment payment emergency!
Had a small freak out today because my KeyBank debit card for unemployment isnt working anymore. I tried to buy groceries and the card just got declined. Theres about $640 still sitting in that account that I've been saving for emergencies. The timing couldn't be worse since I just moved apartments last week and I'm totally broke from paying the security deposit and first months rent. Called KeyBank customer service after panicking for a couple hours and they said I need to re-register my card since my address changed. Now I'm trying to figure out the fastest way to transfer whats left to my regular bank account so I don't have to deal with this card anymore. Anyone else have this happen after changing your address? What a nightmare.

The exact same thing happened to me when I moved in November! Those KeyBank cards are the WORST. You have to call and update your address with them directly - ny unemployment doesn't automatically update your card info when you update your address with them. Such a stupid system.

•I wish I knew this before I moved!! Did it take long for them to fix it for you?

•It took like 3 days for everything to update in their system after I called. The whole KeyBank setup is so inefficient compared to direct deposit.

•3 days? you got lucky. took me almost 2 weeks to get my card working again after I moved from buffalo to rochester.

I was having ZERO luck getting through to KeyBank's customer service until I found this service called Claimyr. They got me connected to an actual human at KeyBank who fixed my card issue in minutes. Honestly it's the best money I spent in weeks because I was able to access my benefits right away. Their website is claimyr.com and they even have this helpful tutorial: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Is this some kind of scam? Sounds too good to be true tbh

•Not a scam at all! It's just a service that calls and waits on hold for you. When someone answers they connect you. Saved me literally hours of wait time.

•wait so this actually works? i've been trying to talk to someone at unemployment for days 😫

•Yeah it does! That's how I finally got my card issues fixed. They just call and wait on hold so you don't have to, then connect you when a real person answers.

•sounds like some influencer marketing BS to me... do they need your SSN or anything?

•They don't need any personal info at all - they just make the call and connect you when someone answers. You handle all the actual talking yourself.

You NEED to switch to direct deposit asap! KeyBank is complete trash and this happens all the time. Go on your ny unemployment account portal and update your payment method. Took about 5 days for my payments to start going to my regular bank.

One important tip: NEVER throw away that KeyBank card even after you switch to direct deposit! I did that and then had a random adjustment payment that went to the card months later. Had to pay $12 for a replacement card just to get the money. The system is designed to be annoying af 🤮

•Yup same happened to me. They sent a retroactive payment 3 months after I switched to direct deposit. Such a broken system.

Ok here's what you need to do to fix your KeyBank unemployment card after moving: 1) Call KeyBank ReliaCard customer service at 866-295-2955 2) You'll need to verify your identity with them and update your address 3) They'll likely put a temporary hold on the account during the update 4) Generally takes 2-5 business days for address changes to fully process 5) Request them to send you a new card if you're worried about the old one While waiting for this to resolve, you can also update your NY unemployment payment method to direct deposit through your online portal. This will prevent future payments from going to the KeyBank card. If you're having trouble reaching a human at KeyBank (which is extremely common), I highly recommend using claimyr.com. It's a service that calls on your behalf and connects you with a live agent without the endless hold times. I used it when I had a similar issue and talking to an actual person got my funds unlocked immediately. Hope this helps! The NY unemployment payment system is needlessly complicated but you'll get your money.

FYI this is exactly why I immediately transfer every penny out of that stupid KeyBank card the minute it hits. Their customer service is nonexistent and the cards randomly stop working all the time.

Pro tip: use the KeyBank mobile app to transfer funds directly to your bank account! Much easier than dealing with their terrible website. Took me months to figure this out 😭

Literally just went through this exact hell last month. The KeyBank system is a disaster. Try calling early in the morning (like 8:01am) when they first open - that's the only time I could get through without waiting 2+ hours.

I'm convinced NY unemployment purposely uses KeyBank because it's so terrible that they hope people just give up trying to access their money 🤔

•100% THIS. Its all by design, they make it hard on purpose

Listen listen listen - stop wasting time with keybank!!! Just switch to direct deposit for future payments. And for the money already on the card, use the keybank app to transfer it out. don't even bother calling them.

Anyone else notice that every time you call KeyBank they give you different information?? I swear I called three times about the same issue and got three completely different answers. The ny unemployment system is a joke 🤡

•YES! Last time I called they told me I needed to visit a branch in person. Called back and next agent said that was completely wrong. 🤦♀️

If you're really desperate and need the money immediately, you can also go to any ATM that accepts Mastercard and withdraw cash from the KeyBank card (assuming you remember the PIN). The card might work for ATM withdrawals even if it's declining for purchases.

•Tried that already, but no luck. It's declining everywhere 😞

Same thing happened to me with KeyBank when I moved - it's because the AVS (address verification system) fails when you try to use the card but your billing address doesn't match what they have on file. Such a stupid design.

Does anyone else think it's wild that NY unemployment still uses these prehistoric debit cards in 2023? Like hello, direct deposit exists and works perfectly fine for literally every other payment system? 💅

•forreal! even my 85 year old grandma uses direct deposit, but somehow the state govt can't figure it out

•They actually do offer direct deposit now, but they default everyone to these garbage KeyBank cards unless you specifically set up direct deposit
