Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Check if your cousin's SSN has been leaked in any data breaches. Go to haveibeenpwned.com and enter his email - if it's been in any breaches, that might explain how someone got his info. My husband had the same ID.me issue and it turned out his data was leaked in the Equifax breach years ago.

lmao welcome to the ny unemployment experience 🤡 where nothing works and nobody cares. took me 4 months to get my benefits after identity issues. best advice: document EVERYTHING. every call, email, letter. you'll need it when they inevitably lose your info or claim they never received it.

Called the IRS yesterday (took 3 attempts but finally got through). They told me my unemployment tax refund was processed on July 6th but could take 2-5 weeks to actually get deposited. Totally ridiculous system.

i applied for partial benefits in february and have been getting them without issue. they definitely still do it but the system is confusing af. i still dont understand why some weeks i get different amount than others even tho i worked the same hours 🤔

•It might be because of the days you worked, not just the hours. Each day you work reduces your benefit by 25% regardless of how many hours you worked that day.

The problem with ny unemployment is getting through to ask these kinds of specific questions. I spent TWO WEEKS calling and couldn't get through. Finally broke down and used claimyr.com which got me a callback in 2 hours. Best money I ever spent because I was able to ask all my questions and get my claim fixed.

Just a heads up, there's been some system maintenance and updates going on recently. My friend's backpay randomly appeared after 4 months of nothing, and customer service said it was because they finally finished updating some old claims after a system update.

just to be safe I always send a message through the online system saying "I'm returning to work as of [date] and will no longer be claiming benefits." never had any issues that way.

Omg this is perfect timing - I literally just went through this last month! Just have him certify for the last week he was unemployed, reporting any partial work days. After that, just stop certifying. That's it! The system will show his claim as inactive after a few weeks of not certifying. No need to call (thank goodness because those hold times are BRUTAL). The claim stays open for a year in case he needs it again later.
