I remember when unemployment had actual offices you could walk into and talk to a human being. Now everything is online and you can never reach anyone. I been through 3 recessions now and this system is the absolute worst it's ever been.
Quick question - has anyone here had any luck getting unemployment to count your gig work earnings from before you were laid off from a regular job? I was doing both and they only counted my W-2 work when calculating my benefit amount.
lmao welcome to the wonderful world of ny unemployment where nothing makes sense and the rules are made up! 🤡 seriously tho, this exact thing happened to me. turns out they were "verifying my work history" which is code for "we're going to make you wait for no reason." took almost 3 weeks before my benefit amount showed up again.
Your new claim is probably in the dreaded "pending" status. The system updates your BYE date right away, but benefit amounts need review especially when you've reported work. Keep certifying and call them ASAP to get it pushed through faster. I waited 5 weeks last time hoping it would resolve itself and regretted not calling sooner.
check if he answered any of the weekly certification questions wrong. one wrong answer can stop everything. especially the question about being ready and available for work - if he said no to that even once, it freezes everything.

anyone else getting REALLY tired of having to become an amateur detective just to get the benefits we're entitled to? 🤦♂️ the entire ny unemployment system feels designed to be as confusing as possible

No offense but this is asked like at least once a week here. Search the sub and you'll find tons of answers. But yes, you can get backpay for certified weeks even if you stopped claiming.
