The unemployment website is useless for this. You 100% need to call and talk to a human. If your reason was that you were working a temp job, they should be able to help you claim those weeks since you're eligible again now.
just went through this exact thing. its a nightmare BUT they will backdate you if you can get a human on the phone. its just the 'getting a human' part thats impossible. i ended up using claimyr.com after trying for 3 weeks to get through. paid them and had an agent on the line within the hour. they fixed it all up on that call. best money i spent all year considering how much backpay i was owed!
lol I felt the same way but I was desperate. I was shocked when it actually worked.
whatever you do, DON'T file an amended return for this! the IRS specifically said not to do that for the unemployment tax exclusion. it will just mess things up more and push you to the back of line
^ THIS!!! My brother didn't listen and filed amended return anyway and now he's been waiting 9 months with no end in sight š¤¦āāļø
tip from a former IRS employee: call the regular number but speak spanish when prompted. the spanish line has way shorter wait times and most agents speak english too. they'll just transfer you if needed
OMG this actually works??? š¤Æ
sometimes! it depends on staffing that day but worth trying. I did it for years when I worked there lol
i got approved but my landlord refuses to participate in the program. says he doesn't want to agree to their terms (can't evict for 12 months, can't raise rent, etc). so now i'm just stuck in limbo. has anyone dealt with this?
wait really?? they told me i was out of luck if landlord doesn't participate!
That's not true! They changed the rules a few months ago. They'll pay you directly and then it's your responsibility to pay the landlord.
ngl I was shocked when my ERAP application actually got approved. Applied in October, approved in January, landlord got paid last week. I didn't do anything special - just made sure all my docs were clear and followed up like once a week through the message center in the portal. Maybe I just got lucky with a good caseworker.
I just went through this last week! Had the same problem. Just request the trusted referee video call option. They'll do a video verification where you show your photo ID and answer some questions. I didnt have any of those docs with my full SSN either, but the video call worked fine.
Did you have to wait in a long queue for the video call?
yeah it was like 3 hours š but still faster than waiting for my parents to mail my SS card. Just put on netflix while you wait.

I swear they design the system to be confusing on purpose. When I got my backpay it came in 3 separate deposits over 2 weeks. First big chunk, then nothing for 8 days, then two smaller payments back to back. Nobody at NY unemployment could explain why. š¤¦āāļø

If you got some of the backpay but not all, give it at least 3-5 business days before calling. Their system processes payments in batches and sometimes there's a delay between batches. But definitely call if nothing happens by the end of the week!
