NY unemployment check mailed out 2 weeks ago still hasn't arrived - anyone else?
I'm seriously frustrated with the mail delivery times for benefit checks. My ny unemployment check was supposedly mailed out on August 5th and here we are on the 19th with still nothing in my mailbox. I've been checking every single day and it's driving me crazy. I called the post office and they said they can't track regular mail. I also have a tax credit check from the IRS that was mailed July 30th that hasn't shown up either. Is anyone else experiencing these delays? My bills are piling up and my landlord is getting impatient. I can't even set up direct deposit because the website keeps giving me an error message whenever I try to update my payment preferences.

The mail is super slow right now. I got my check 18 days after it was mailed. Just hang in there but maybe call unemployment to make sure it was actually sent out.

•18 days?? Thats ridiculous. Did you have to do anything special to follow up or did it just show up eventually?

•nope, just showed up randomly. I was checking my mail 3 times a day like a crazy person lol. once it finally came i immediately set up direct deposit

•The postal service is an absolute joke rn. Packages that used to take 3 days now take 2 weeks 🤮

After trying for weeks to reach someone at ny unemployment with no luck, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually helped me get a callback from a real agent within an hour. Talking to the rep directly got my issues resolved and my payment method updated. Best decision I made after wasting days on hold. Check out their explainer video here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE it was the only way I could talk to a live agent and got my $ unlocked so fast.

•Yeah man its totally real. I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks straight. The agent fixed everything in like 10 mins once I got through. Changed my life seriously

•I get the skepticism. I felt the same way. But yeh it works - they basically just stay on hold for you and call when a human picks up. Simple but effective.

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? 🤔

•the difference is it actually works lol. they literally just call and wait on hold so you dont have to. then when someone answers they connect you. no magic just saves you hours of hold music

Same here. My check was supposedly mailed July 27th and still nothing. Called NYSDOL three times and got three different answers about what's happening. One rep said to wait 14 business days, another said there's a mail backlog, and the third one had no clue and told me to call the post office 🤡

Welcome to the wonderful world of NY unemployment where nothing works as it should and everything takes 3x longer than they tell you. I'd recommend switching to direct deposit ASAP if you can get it set up.

•I've been trying!! The website keeps giving me error codes whenever I try to update my payment info. It's like they designed the system to fail.

•Try using a different browser. Chrome worked for me after Edge kept failing. Also clear your cache first.

For everyone dealing with these issues, here's what worked for me: First, understand that both USPS and the unemployment system are severely backlogged right now. When they say a check is "mailed" on a certain date, it often means it's been processed but might not physically be in the mail for 3-5 days after that. Here's what I recommend: - Call NYSDOL but be prepared to wait. Using claimyr.com saved me hours of hold time and got me through to an actual human being who could help. - Request that they stop the current check and reissue it via direct deposit if possible. They can mark the check as lost after 10 business days. - Document EVERYTHING - who you spoke with, dates, reference numbers. - Check your address in the system to make sure it's 100% correct (I found out mine had the wrong zip code!) - If you're in dire straits, explain your situation clearly and ask if there are emergency options. It took me nearly a month to resolve my missing check issue, but once I got through to a representative, they were able to help get my money within 48 hours via direct deposit. Hang in there!

•THANK YOU so much for this detailed response! I didn't know they could stop and reissue checks. I'm definitely going to try calling first thing tomorrow.

•They actually switched me to direct deposit after I explained how urgent it was. Hit my account in 2 days. I think paper checks are taking 2-3 weeks right now tho.

USPS is a disaster lately. My unemployment letter took 23 days to arrive and by then I'd already missed my hearing date 😭

•Omg that's terrible! Were you able to reschedule or appeal?

•yeah but had to wait another month for a new date. the system is broken beyond belief

FYI there's a bunch of mail fraud happening rn. People stealing checks from mailboxes. If you live in an apartment building with shared mail area, be extra vigilant.

have you tried going online to see if there's tracking info available? sometimes the system updates before anything arrives

•Yeah I checked but it just shows "payment issued" with the date. No tracking number or anything useful.

Direct deposit is the ONLY way to go. I was getting paper checks for the first 3 months and had nothing but problems. Switched to DD and now I get paid like clockwork every week. Worth the hassle of setting it up.

if its been more than 3 weeks, you can report it as lost and request a replacement. just be warned that process takes another 10-15 days 🙃

•Sigh... it feels like I'm stuck in an endless bureaucracy loop. 10-15 more days is gonna put me in a really bad spot with rent.

•been there done that. you might want to look into emergency rental assistance if things get tight.

This happened to me last month too. Called for 5 days straight and couldn't get through to anyone. Then I found claimyr.com which got me connected to an agent who told me my check was returned to them because my apartment number was missing. They fixed it and reissued that day.

Last month I had 4 checks all arrive on the same day after waiting weeks for each one. The mail system is completely unpredictable rn.

After my unemployment check went missing, I spent 2 days calling non-stop trying to reach someone. Busy signal every time. Found claimyr.com and got through in an hour. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast - turns out my check was sent to my old address even though I updated it months ago.

OP have you tried going physically to a NYS career center? sometimes they can help you with unemployment issues too and at least you're dealing with a real person

Jungleboo Soletrain
•I didn't know that was an option! Is there a website where I can find the nearest location?
