IRS2Go shows "Return Received" after in-person identity verification but transcripts still empty - normal timeline?

I had to verify my identity with the IRS last week. Went to the local IRS office on Thursday and completed the verification in person. Today I checked and saw that the Identity Verify notification is gone from WMR, and now it just says 'We have received your tax return and it is being processed.' I'm looking at the IRS2Go app right now and seeing my refund status with the three stages: "Refund Received," "Refund Approved," and "Refund Sent." I'm still only on the first stage where it specifically states: "We have received your tax return and it is being processed." The app also shows a note that says: "Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or visit the Refunds page on IRS.gov. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day." But when I try to check my transcript, it's still completely blank. Does anyone know if this is normal? Has anyone had their WMR update like this but still have empty transcripts? How long did it take for everything to fully update after verifying? I've been waiting anxiously since doing the in-person verification, and while I'm glad to see the identity verification notice is gone, I'm concerned that my transcripts are still empty.

This is exactly what happens after identity verification is completed. Your WMR will update first to show 'return received' status, but transcripts typically take longer to update - usually 7-10 business days after verification. The IRS systems don't update everything simultaneously. When you verified in person, they removed the ID verification hold from your account, but your return still needs to go through normal processing. Since it's only been a few days since your verification, I'd recommend checking your transcript again next week. If you verified on Thursday, I wouldn't expect transcript updates until at least this coming Thursday or Friday, possibly even into the following week. You're on the right track now though - verification was the big hurdle and you've cleared it. Just need patience at this point.

when I verified last year it took about 3 weeks for my transcripts to update and 4 weeks for me to get my refund. hang in there!

This! Same boat. Verified early april and transcripts updated almost 9 days later. The waiting is the worst part 😩

After dealing with the same exact issue this year, I finally used taxr.ai and it was life changing. Instead of trying to decipher blank transcripts or vague WMR messages, the tool actually explained exactly where my return was in the process and what to expect next. It showed me info I couldn't even see myself yet and gave a timeline prediction that was spot on. Seriously wish I found it earlier instead of stressing for weeks. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's WAY more than just reading a transcript! It analyzes everything - even if your transcript is blank like mine was, it can still tell you what's happening behind the scenes. It explained my verification delay before I even knew I needed to verify, predicted when my refund would come (within 2 days accuracy!), and translated all the IRS jargon into normal english. I've been telling everyone about it - total game changer for tax season stress.

I was super skeptical too, but it's legit. I tried every free method first - calling IRS (impossible), checking WMR constantly (useless), staring at empty transcripts (frustrating). This actually gave me peace of mind knowing exactly what was happening with my return. Not affiliated with them or anything, just sharing what worked after weeks of stress.

After dealing with ID verification hell, I finally got through to a real IRS agent using claimyr.com and it changed everything. They prioritized my return after I explained I'd already verified in person. The agent could see exactly what was happening and gave me a specific timeframe. Got my refund 5 days later. After weeks of stress and not being able to get through the normal IRS phone line, talking to an actual human was the best money I've ever spent.

How does that work? I've been trying to call the IRS for weeks but can never get through...

It basically navigates the IRS phone system for you and gets you a callback when an agent is available. So instead of wasting hours on hold or getting disconnected, they just call you when they've got someone. Super easy - I got a call back in about 50 minutes when I'd been trying for literal weeks on my own.

sounds too good to be true. you actually talked to a real person?

100% talked to a real IRS agent who could see my full account. Not those useless customer service ppl who just tell you to wait. The agent was able to see that my ID verification was complete but my return was stuck in a queue. They pushed it through manually. Worth every penny to finally get answers after weeks of stress.

my transcripts took almost 2 weeks to update after verification 😑 the WMR changed right away like yours but the IRS computer systems are from the stone age so they dont talk to each other properly lol

Yep, going through this exact same thing right now. Verified at the local office on Monday and WMR updated Wednesday but transcript still says N/A. Called the IRS and they told me it can take up to 9 weeks for everything to fully process after verification, but most people see movement much sooner. The agent said my verification was successfully processed though, so that's something.

9 WEEKS?? omg I hope it doesn't take that long 😭 How did you even get through to talk to someone on the phone??

I used claimyr.com - only way I could actually get through to someone. The 9 weeks is worst case scenario, the agent said most people see movement within 2 weeks of verification.

i verified in feb and it took 3 days for wmr to update and like 10 days for transcript to update, refund came a week after that. you're on the right track!

be prepared to wait... irs is super backed up this year. my verification took almost a month to fully process through all their systems. the wmr updated after a few days but transcripts took foreeeeeever.

Ugh that's so frustrating. Did your refund amount change at all during the wait? I'm worried they'll adjust mine or something

That screen literally tells you nothing useful. WMR is basically useless. I was stuck on that 'processing' message for 8 weeks after verification before I finally got a transcript update. And then it showed that I had had a review hold for weeks that the IRS never bothered to tell me about. A friend recommended taxr.ai and it actually showed me what was happening when the IRS wouldnt. Best decision I made all tax season.

8 weeks?? Im on week 4 of that stupid processing message. What did the tool say that was different than what you already knew?

It showed me where my return was stuck in their workflow (audit review dept), predicted when I'd actually get my refund based on similar returns, and explained all the codes on my transcript once it finally updated. Saved me like 3 more weeks of waiting and wondering. And it was right about everything.

normal. the irs systems are outdated af and dont update at the same time. transcript normally updates last. they basically use computers from the 1980s 🤡

I went through the same thing. Verified Feb 28, WMR updated March 2, but transcript didn't update until March 11. Got my refund March 18. Just how their system works unfortunately.

Had the same issue – after identity verification my WMR changed but transcript stayed empty. Called the IRS tax advocate hotline and they told me that the different IRS systems don't always update at the same time. Transcript took about 2 weeks longer to update than WMR. Super annoying but at least it's moving forward for you now.

thanks, that makes me feel better. did your cycle code end up being weekly or daily when it finally updated?

Mine was a weekly update (cycle code ended in 05). Most people seem to get those.

this is the worst tax season ive ever seen for delays. im a tax preparer and about 70% of my clients had to verify identity this year. most of them had the same experience as you - WMR updates quick but transcripts take 1-3 weeks more to update. as long as verification is complete youre good, just gotta wait for the slow irs computers to catch up to each other
