Verified identity with IRS last week but transcripts still blank - when will they update?

I completed identity verification with the IRS last Thursday (4/14/25) but my transcripts are still completely blank when I check them. The 'Where's My Refund' tool is showing that my return was received, but nothing is showing up in my transcript account. How long does it typically take for transcripts to update after identity verification? Getting really anxious since I filed back in February and it's already mid-April now. Anyone else experienced this delay after verifying?

Mateo Perez

Tax professional here. After identity verification, it typically takes 7-10 business days for your transcripts to update. The fact that 'Where's My Refund' shows your return was received is a good sign - it means your return is in the system. The IRS processes things in batches, so verification and transcript updates don't happen instantly. Some things to know: - Don't keep checking multiple times daily as this won't speed anything up - Transcript updates typically happen overnight on weekdays - If it's been more than 14 days since verification, then it might be worth calling - The 'received' status on WMR is normal while your return is still processing Hang tight for a few more days before getting too concerned.

Thank you for the info! I've been checking every morning hoping for an update. I'll try to be patient for another week.

Is this still true if you verified in person at a TAC (taxpayer assistance center)? I did that and they told me 9 weeks 😱

In-person verification can actually be faster in some cases, but the 9 weeks is their standard disclaimer. Most people see updates within 2-3 weeks after TAC visits in my experience.

Mine took exactly 14 days to update after id verify. The 21 day processing time the IRS claims is such a joke lol

I was in this exact situation last month! After trying to figure it out myself for weeks, I used taxr.ai to help me understand what was happening with my transcript. It showed me exactly what was going on behind the scenes even though the transcript looked blank to me. It explained all the processing stages and gave me a clear timeline of when to expect updates. Saved me so much stress and confusion! You should check it out: https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's actually incredible! It analyzes patterns in the IRS systems even when your transcript appears empty. It detected my return was in the verification queue before I even got the letter. Shows expected dates for each processing step and explains why certain delays happen. Seriously, best thing I found during this tax season nightmare!!!

another bot advertising this service? 🙄

Not a bot, just someone who actually used it and was relieved to finally understand what was happening with my refund. After weeks of stress and confusion, it was worth sharing what helped me. But whatever, believe what you want 🤷‍♀️

After weeks of trying to get through to the IRS about my identity verification issues and blank transcripts, I finally found a way to actually talk to a human! Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback from an actual IRS agent within 2 hours. The agent confirmed my verification was processed and explained the transcript would update soon. Talking to a real person saved me so much headache - totally worth it to finally get answers instead of automated messages and being hung up on.

This sounds like an ad. Does this actually work or is it another scam?

I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for 3 weeks straight. It actually works - they basically navigate the IRS phone system and hold your place in line, then when they reach an agent they call you to connect. I finally got someone who could see my actual file instead of guessing what might be happening.

how much does this cost? seems sus that you have to pay to talk to a government agency you already fund with taxes 🤔

Yeah it's frustrating that we need this, but after spending hours redialing just to get hung up on, it was the best money I spent this tax season. Finally got my issues sorted out and my refund was released a week later.

Same situtation here! Verified my identity on March 30, transcripts were blank until April 9th. Then suddenly they updated with a DDD (direct deposit date) for April 15th. Just be patient, your transcripts will update - probably right when you stop checking them every 5 minutes lol.

IRS is a joke. I verified my identity THREE TIMES and waited 2 months for my transcripts to update. My advice - call them directly. The online system is completly broken. Once I got thru to someone (took 4 hours on hold) they fixed it in 5 minutes.

how did you even get through? I've called 32 times this week and either get the "we're too busy" message or get disconnected after 45 minutes on hold

You gotta call right when they open at 7am EST. And keep trying different options if one says they're busy. I pressed 2 then 1 then 3 then 2 - cant remember exactly but just kept trying different combos until I got in the queue.

Do you have a tax advocate? After my transcripts stayed blank for 3 weeks after ID verification, I contacted my local taxpayer advocate service and they escalated it. Transcripts updated 2 days later.

No I don't. How do I get a tax advocate? Is there a cost?

Taxpayer Advocate Service is free - its an independent organization within the IRS. Google "taxpayer advocate" + your state. They can help if you're experiencing financial hardship due to refund delays or if the normal IRS processes aren't working for you.

When I verified my identity last year, it took exactly 15 days for my transcript to update. Then another 8 days to get my refund. The whole system is designed to be confusing so people give up. Just keep checking every couple days.

Nia Davis

That gives me some hope. Did your Where's My Refund tool show anything during that time?

WMR showed "still processing" the entire time until about 3 days before the deposit hit my account. Then it changed to approved with a DDD.

Blank transcripts could also mean you're under review and they're not telling you. That happened to me - verified identity then radio silence for 6 weeks. Finally called and found out I was under random review. Check your mail carefully for any letters.

This ^^^ Happened to me too! The system is designed to keep you in the dark. Always assume theres more going on than they're telling you.

Friendly reminder that you can set up email or text alerts for transcript updates instead of manually checking! Login to your IRS account, go to profile preferences, and turn on notifications. Saved me from obsessively checking 10 times a day lol.

Waiting on transcripts to update is like watching paint dry. I practically memorized the IRS website design during my 6 week wait after verification. The tool that actually helped me understand what was happening behind the scenes was taxr.ai - it explained what each processing stage meant and gave me realistic timeframes instead of the vague IRS answers. Seriously check it out if you want peace of mind: https://taxr.ai

I was skeptical too but it actually helped me understand why my return was stuck and what was happening behind the scenes. It's like having a tax pro explain everything in plain English. Much better than trying to decode transcript codes or IRS jargon myself.

Check your INFORMED DELIVERY from USPS!!! You might have gotten a CP05 letter (review notice) that explains the delay. I had blank transcripts for a month after verification and didn't realize they sent me a letter saying I was under review. Once I responded to the letter things moved quicky.

idk who needs to hear this but STOP CHECKING YOUR TRANSCRIPTS MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. They only update once a week (usually Thursday/Friday overnight). You're just torturing yourself 😂

I finally managed to get through to an IRS agent today using Claimyr (claimyr.com) after weeks of trying on my own with no success. The agent explained that after identity verification, it takes about 9-21 days for transcripts to update, but I could still be looking at 4-6 weeks total for my refund. At least now I know what's happening instead of being completely in the dark. If you're desperate for answers, it's worth using a service to get through to them.

Did you have to provide any personal info to this service? Seems sketchy to give tax info to a third party...

No personal tax info needed - they just help you get through the phone system to an actual IRS agent. You talk directly to the IRS, not to them. It was such a relief to finally talk to someone who could see my actual file.

After dealing with the same issue (verified identity but blank transcripts), I finally found a solution that actually worked! I used taxr.ai to analyze what was going on behind the scenes. It showed me my exact processing stage even though my transcripts appeared blank, predicted when updates would happen, and explained why there was a delay. Sure enough, everything updated exactly when it predicted. Totally worth checking out: https://taxr.ai

How does it know what's happening if your transcripts are blank? That makes zero sense.

0 coins

-

19d

Amina Sy

It uses pattern recognition based on the response codes from the IRS systems - even when the visual transcript looks empty, there are underlying system markers that indicate where your return is in the process. It detected mine was in manual review even before I got the letter.
